The "loot goblin" story around 40 min is about the WoW loot goblins of the satirical corporate greed faction, Venture Co, (that has existed since launch of the game) and a higher up saw some of the lines and somebody got fired over it. Those lines were included in promotional material before and after they were fired until he pointed it out on twitter and removed the promotional video
Loot goblins were also introduced into D3. High hit point monsters that randomly appear, initially on a 15 minute timer. Pacifist monsters that in D3 ran to nearby elites... making it impossible to kill them before they timed out and used petals to disappear. Later on in D3 they created several types of goblins: for gold, loot, and limited phoenixing.
Fairly standard Diablo feature at this point, powerleveling existed in both D2 and D3 in the same sort of vein. In D3 you literally just opened a rift, went AFK at the start of it and went from level 1 to 70 (cap) in under ten minutes or so.
@@toastedt140 D3 stayed alive with minimal cheaters for quite sometime (pc not console) and was still played after D4 dropped because of the horrendous load times when it first dropped.. but yeah you do you xD
I like the idea of a failed necromancer who can't actually summon undead minions, so he just follows living people around trying to get them to do stuff for him.
@Spiff - after Beta is release. In software development, the Beta phase means the game is almost ready, and you're supposed to test for any final bugs before the initial release. Essentially, it's a final QA phase. The software should be *mostly*, if not completely stable. Once its stable enough that an average user wont encounter any problems, that is when the software is supposed to be released. Just wish game dev companies still remembered this.
There's a step between beta and release called release candidate. Basically, you think it's ready for wide release, so you open it up to a large group but not the full one for checking on more hardware. Not everyone does that, though, they release beta to the public.
@@Zirnike It depends a lot on the company and the game/product they are releasing. The two are talking about two different things and today the "beta" doesn't even really apply anymore. Any RC (release candidate) is saying that the product is "finished" as far as programming is concerned. That isn't always the case though and sometimes things are discovered that need to be changed/fixed before it goes Gold and actually releases. When this happens they fix/change what they need to and then it becomes RC2, RC3, etc. One of the tools that they can use is a "beta test", but there is no real time/stage limit attached to that phrase anymore. It could mean a test done in the legit Beta stage of production, or it could be a server stress test, or even just a free weekend "beta test" to try to drive hype before release. All of the Diablo "beta tests" are not actually done in the beta stage of development and have always been for server stress testing and marketing/hype...even all the way back to Diablo 2. If you played D2, 3, or 4 then it was an RC or Gold build. None of us ever got even close to getting our hands on an actual Beta build (and I was a "Beta Tester" for D2 and D3...). We see true RC versions being released as "beta tests" most of the time today. The last thing a big AAA title wants is the memories of true beta version bugs out in public. True beta testing is almost always in-house or at a minimum it is done in private with a private company so nobody sees just how buggy game development is in nearly everything except the last stages of development (RCs). Having a game force close and delete/corrupt your save (or something equally catastrophic to a player) is quite common in real beta testing, but certainly doesn't LOOK good to the public and can kill your hype once mainstream media hears about it. They just use the phrase "beta test" because it gives a good excuse for why the game isn't bug-free and balanced on release day. It is far easier to control the perception about a "beta test" that shows some flaws and balance issues than to admit that you thought you were done, but really weren't. Also if you are releasing something with known bugs (which seems to be the norm today) then it is a very convenient way to gauge which of those bugs are going to be big enough to be a PR issue and need fixing before Gold, and which of those bugs fly under the radar and can wait until a future update (or be ignored forever). Today this is all about marketing and PR, with a touch of "how many servers to have without spending too much money and still giving acceptable performance". Nothing at all to do with Alpha/Beta/RC/Gold stages of development any more. Some smaller companies (especially the more Indie you go) have actual true public beta tests still, but it is rare and never for a AAA type of game. Small scope games can also reach a stage of being relatively bug-free even before their Beta stages, so there are certainly some exceptions. But any large, expansive game with more than a few people working on it nearly always has tons of large (and at least a few major) bugs in it until you get to RC1. If you are EA, then it probably still has tons of large bugs and a few major ones even at Gold.
I did not expect the disclaimer at the beginning. Big ups. Sad that you didnt go into detail, but I suspect that is because the video would be age-gated.
This with the Spiff just standing around for hours on end is somehow less boring than other Diablo IV Streams where they actually play it - brilliant game...

Well, you could do this with Diablo 2 too. As long as you were within a certain physical radius of the party member doing the killing, you got a share of the XP.
Brilliant! Been a 'Diablo' fan since day 1 of the OG. Question for you: can this game be played at all effectively singleplayer? Thanks for the content, good sir. I tip my tea cup to you.
Yes. It’s ‘always online’ and MMOey so you’ll bounce into other people occasionally as you wander the world (with unique individual instances for Dungeons, etc), but I’ve been playing Single Player since early access and it’s been fine and pretty fair. For example, I’ve died occasionally, but each time it’s always felt like my fault for not dodging/healing at the right timing compared to ‘This is impossible without a party’ kind of thing. The only part that I’ve really had difficulty with playing alone is depending on your build, some of the Events are hard to get the Mastery bonus on. For example, there are some random events in the wild where you have to protect like, 3 merchants hiding under their carts from waves of enemies … And that can be rough because sometimes they’ll be fairly spread out so as you’re trying to clear the wave on one end the other is getting hanged up on and falls before you can get to it.
I'm just saying, nobody has ever seen Bobby and Mr. Stay-Puft together in the same room. Someone needs to charge the stage at his next speaking engagement and scream "ZUUUUUL."
I'm not sure if you figured this out yet or not but XP range in D4 is infinite. You just have to be in the same instance. Following people around was really only for content, you can wait at the front door and still accomplish what you were after lol
I leveled my wife's character from 1-100 this season (S2) by having her character just follow mine. And I mean, she isn't playing, just logged in her controller and let it auto-follow. I haven't played on her controller, except the occasional health pot. Shared screen on Xbox is sweet lol. And yeah, she still hasn't got on to Diablo at all this season, hahaha. World first AFK 100? Maybe :D
@3:00 ...so I wasn't after an answer to the question "What would happen if a cancerous bowel tumour formed into a second functioning anus and then defecated *itself* out of the host body and went on to become the Chief Excrement Orifice over a large vat of rotting whale semen, and the enslaved former developers from actual development studios." however I got one regardless. 2:53:20 a macro to move your character while you're afk for extended periods isn't a good idea, it's liable to be detected by anti-bot algorithms in the game which may then attract a ban for TOS violation in many games, so an arrangement with a drinking bird or some other desk toy to physically nudge the mouse may be a safer path to take 🤪

There are at least a dozen complete make over mods that comes close to completely making over the game giving it a replicability I've never seen before . . . ever. Magic, you got it. Earn skill points by using a skill. You got it. Build . . . well just about anything, you got it. Cheese the game, or play by the rules, you got it. If Diablo 4 had the potential for these types of mod, I'd be playing it know, but . . . well, no. I played though to level 91 I think, and stopped 'cause I got bored, and never started again. That was about 4 months ago. Or take Skyrim, Fall Out 4, or even Dying Light 2. They can be modded and I've played them over and over again.

I was a big fan of blizzard from warcraft 1 days, right in the beginning. I completely boycott them now as there are so many other better, more ethical games companies around today, that i don't miss them, and don't feel any need to give them any further support. Blizzard, EA or Bethesda. I'll enjoy the games i have but not a penny more. 😊
