The valk is the premium ROC carrier if you want something where a friend can help guard your mining operation from the top turret and where the ship wont explode in the first 5 seconds from a light fighter heating it up and you dont want to bring a heavy carrack or such even though the carrack has better firepower and room for a light scout craft in the top hangar to help scan down the gems ahead of the group. When physical dmg and armor gets put into the ships ingame i think the valk will have even more value. The downsides imo as long time player is the valks lights in the front doesnt always point where you want, sometimes its more below the ship wich is kind of useless. Then the ground vehicle bay only fits greycats, cyclones, dragonflies, nox and a ursa rover, kind of wish it was bigger so you could fit the tonk in it or a ballista. The ship eats hydrogen fuel at pretty fast rate in atmo wich limits your expedition time during roc mining runs. In some patches the ladders to the upper deck bugs out and doesnt allow you to go up until you sat in one of the jumpseats and ship engine sounds feel a little jumpy. The sidedoors are amazing if the main door on the rear breaks down and cant be opened. One thing also remember to bring a backpackso you can store gems in if the drivetrain on the roc breaks and you have to move the gems from the rocs inventory over to the drop ships inventory. Kind of wish for a repair tool attachement for the multitool! :) The valk is just so beatiful, i end up taking it out every now and then just so i can play with its 4 vtol engines turning vtol on and off looks so cool! Got the liberator pledge last year since i got a feeling its going to be an even more amazing experience with friends and im already dreaming of how many different vehicles i can load it up with :D
Great video! Thanks for posting. The Valk has a strange attraction but is by far the worst dropship given its high price. Other designated dropships are the Cutlass Steel, Hercules M2, Vanguard Hoplite and Prowler although the latter seems more like a heavy fighter with extra seats to be honest. Of these the M2 has a far bigger shield and the Cutlass Steel a single size 2 where the rest all have dual size 2 shield generators. This makes the Steel the most vulnerable of the bunch and the M2 the most tough one, plus (and it's a big plus at that) the M2 can transport tanks and balistas along with troops at just over half a million aUEC higher in-game price.
Thanks! The M2 i wouldn't really call a drop ship, at least not in the way the valk is. Due to their placement in the upper deck, the "drop seats" are more suited for moving troops from base to forward post i.e. no "hot drops", unlike the others. For that reason, in my mind, its much more akin to a C130 through and through (which makes sense, thats the big influence on the Herc series, hence the shared name!) I do think they each carve their own niche, but they are very much niches. Prowler drops marines in quiet, and can fight off any attackers if necessary. Valk brings 2 full squads and a support ground vehicle whilst providing some ground cover. Cutty steel is just insane amounts of anti-troop guns. Vanguard Hoplite is for getting troops in under extremely heavy fire in active zones. Though with all that said, i wont deny for a second CIG need to look at the prices of them all again as they're all over the place!
Such a shame this ship falls so short as a player ship. It was going to be my solo ship go to, but the low hp and shields for a combat ship that supposedly can fly into hot zones just doesn't make sense. It needs more shields and full SCU. The Valkyrie feels like it needs a polish pass to fix it.
I think a LOT of ships are in awkward places currently. There is a desperate need for a full balance in a lot of cases. Although, for troop carrying, i'd still take the Valk over the Cutty steel or Prowler any day!
@@RobotSpartan Valkyrie still quite buggy, I still haven't worked out how to close the rear ramp from outside. I use it now all the time and have learned that many bugs are desync issues that can be fixed by entering and exiting one of the turrets. IE. Fixed loot boxes that bug inside cargo hold and can't be put into inventory, fixes the main ladder not climbing etc. It's my bunker buster and loot hauler
Give it an s3 shield or two and buff the health pool and maybe you have something. Like you said, cutty black does everything better (though ironically it handles worse?) with better missiles and pilot weapons. IDK what the home for the Valkyrie is with the C2, A2, and M2 in game. As of now, this ship just feels like it is so incredibly focused on doing one thing, delivering (LOTS OF) marines on foot. And that is a pretty strange niche, even when more ground game mechanics come online. One thing not to overlook, if they give it more shielding, is how well it works as an antipersonnel air vehicle to support the marines. Those door guns and the lower turret would be a pain in the ass if you were trying to defend an outpost against this thing.
With the way shields are all over the place currently, an S3 might actually be reasonable here!. Though when this was made, the cutty flew pretty well. As for its place, agreed its pure FPS troop drop off, with air support capability. It fits that niche better than any other ship outside of the prowler, with better coverage and a rover bay to boot. It might be a unique niche, but i've no doubt in my mind that for the milsim guys, this ship is king of their fleets

@@Nzchimeran there are some desync fixes in 3.17, so hopefully that goes some way to resolving those issues
