I feel so blessed that I had a successful laminectamy. I had emergency surgery being diagnosed with foot drop and being in extreme pain. The nurses told me before the procedure that I couldn't just lay in bed all day; I had to take control. That's what I did. Started walking around hhe hospital room the same day. It will be 3 years from my surgery in October and I'm Practically pain free

@@brianoconnell2009 I would rate my procedure a 80% success. I knew going into it that I wouldnt get 100% relief but I am glad I got the procedure. Before the procedure, I could barely get through a round of golf, and the post round recovery was long and involved a lot of ice and heat. Now post op, I can golf multiple days in a row and just feel soreness if anything. I flew out to see him and I'm from PA. My advice if you decide on procedure is to not go alone. You will def need help post op. Good luck!

I had a L4-5 laminectomy done about 3 months ago to remove a piece of disk material that had broke off and lodged itself. Then formed a cyst around it. The second i woke up from surgery i noticed a huge difference. It literally brought a tear to my eye. The thought of " it is finely gone"

What a difference. I had a laminectomy in 1962. L-4. I was in the hospital 2 weeks..and was made to stay in bed and was turned on sheets
I had to wear a brace for weeks. All of my staying in bed was harmful to my back. I became so stiff due to not moving at all. ..I'm thankful with time and technology, that those having this surgery today are so much better off. ..thank you for this video.

Be specific about how many and which veterbrae are involved, , and if fusion is done. I had 6 of my cervical veterbae done with fusion. I wore a Miami collar for 2 1/2 months full time, 1 more week when moving around house or in the car, and then off unless it helped with pain. I think people can be mislead by how simple you make this sound. Just a suggestion

Thank you brother . Problem with va is sends you to nearest doctor . In New Mexico it took a year to see a neurosurgeon. 3 hospitals already noted my spine is too complex for them . Problems I don't get a straight answer or no answer . As a nurse I see the look on thier faces . "Oh crap I don't want to get involved in this train wreck" one top neuro surgeon in Florida said "I wouldn't know where to start and I might hurt you " one guy wants a two day surgery going through abdomen and placing a cage . UCLA wants to put a morphine pump in so I can be comfortable sitting in a corner waiting to die . New Mexico said I have flat back syndrome and scoliosis as back is collapsing to the left . New Mexico neurosurgeon wants to break my low back rebuild it and place rods top to bottom . It's killing my legs and hips . C2 in neck is impinged . I need plate frombacdf taken out because I choke when swallowing and there's a ostephyte = bone growing out of it . Confirmed with swallow study .had Laminectomy L4-l5 in 1994 . Neck emg's are nasty . Had bilateral carpal tunnel and brachial release . I'm hoping this younger doctor who is up to date on tech , the energy , and enjoys the challenge. Can at least give me part of my mobility back and my life . I'm a young 62 . A reduction in pain . You want a mid career surgeon . Older surgeons want easy money . New surgeons can be over confident or not skilled enough . I need a team to look at entire spine and come up with plannofvattack . Every disc is bad except one . Hope this helps someone .

Is this an anterior or posterior procedure? Also, since you’re removing bone from the vertebrae, does this pose additional risk to the spinal column? The bone is meant to protect the spinal column. Also does the bone from being cut away develop a tendency to regrow with excess as in scar tissue?

Why isn't the first course of action to just replace the discs? Surely it's been done long enough. Personally I've had this and disc material cut out and could have another done but it would ruin my chances for a disc replacement the doctor said because it reduces stability of the spine when you cut stuff off of it. Fusions are bad as well. My wife is a PT and has so many people come back when the discs wear out above and below the fused vertebrae.

What are your thoughts on the procedure where a cylindrical rod or dilator is inserted in the small opening in the side spread the muscle to create a small passage and guide through which the surgery is performed endoscopically. The tip of the dilator is advanced into the symptomatic disc through the tear in the annulus where the herniation originates, and a tube called the retractor slides over the dilator and is carefully positioned into the painful disc. disc repair surgery will occur inside this narrow tube.
To access the spine, an endoscopic camera is inserted into the tubular retractor to allow the surgeon to guide the laser inside each symptomatic disc. This process ensures that bones and surrounding tissues are not damaged, unlike traditional spinal fusions, microdiscectomy, and artificial discs.

@@DonnallySpineConsult I don't have the images just someone I know was lifting more than they were supposed to after having c5-t1 laminectomy I think it was. Are the lifting precautions just to help it heal and keep it stable or are they at risk for fracture? But if they are at risk for fracture acutely wouldn't they be months down the road too? I'm just trying to learn more cause I'm in school.

Hey there, I do about 15 new patient telemedicines💻 every week. Here is the best path forward:
1- email your insurance card to Spine@TSCspine.com (We don’t take HMOs or Medicaid, but can private pay unless Medicaid)
2- if we take that insurance THEN upload your images to my portal for our 1st visit.
3- I must have X-rays and MRI, X rays are critical. Just MRI isn’t enough. Need to be from last 12 months. Nothing older is needed, or wanted.
4- You need to get your CD 💿 of your X ray and MRI (imaging centers will never send them to us)
5- On the top of my website (www.DonnallySpine.com) is the link to UPLOAD images, from YOUR HOME! 🤯🥰
6- recap: email us, get CDs, upload
      Step by step:

@@fiza6015uh so I ended up having to go to ER shortly after my initial comment. I had complete numbness in my groin, and they were worried about cauda equina (I'll let you google it). It's been almost 2 months now and the numbness is almost gone. My back feels better but not perfect. That symptom/side effect was very rare and doesn't normally happen. I'd say it was worth it. Hope your dad has success! Let me know.
