This is like a full on celebration of everything that is Thousand-Year Door. While the original credits theme holds a special place in my heart, if this is the replacement, well I can't be too upset
Story time: These new credits resonated with me on such a profound level. When I first found the original version of this game at a local shop and beat it in around 2016 or 2017, I was a completely different person than I am now. I was fine and all and I had a general desire to go out and create things one day, but middle school sure was middle schooling, and I was still figuring out how specifically I wanted to express myself creatively and all that. But now, playing the remake in 2024, I’m one year of college down, and I can say that I spent a good chunk of my high school career building that confidence and finding the answer to that question by doing theatre. A friend I met in freshman year that I consider family now eventually convinced me to start at it in the beginning of junior year. 4 shows over the course of 2 years, and they were some of the best and most formative times of my life, and I absolutely came out of them a happier person. I can’t put into words how much high school theatre meant to me. So not only am I able to better appreciate the stage aspect of this game now, but also, to my emotional surprise, they changed the credits to act like a curtain call for all the characters I’ve fallen in love with all over again throughout my playthrough. It made me feel like I was back up on that dingy old auditorium stage with all my amazing cast and crew mates. This time around, in some small way, celebrating the end of Mario’s adventure with everyone I met in the story evoked the same feelings of celebrating the end of high school right alongside some of my closest friends with one last show. And in the same way that the end of high school points towards a hopeful future, I’m hoping this wonderful remake’s success means more Paper Mario games like TTYD are on the horizon. There’s just no game quite like it. In short, a Paper Mario game- no, THE Paper Mario game- has really put into perspective just how much personal growth and understanding of myself I’ve experienced after almost a decade. Who would’ve fuckin thought, huh? And hey, if you somehow read through all of this yammering, thanks. Means you take these silly video games as seriously as I do ;)
The fact that the entire credit sequence in this remake is set up like a roll call at the end of a play is so aesthetically fitting for this game. The credits in the original were...fine enough, albeit bland imho, but this...I actually cried a little. To me, it honestly shows just how much love and care went into making this remake.
This is really entertaining staff credits and it's an excellent retrospective music...but to be honest imo I really loved the credits of the original game because we were like "Ah, this is the end of an unforgottable journey, now we can rest and be nostalgic about it". But anyway TTYD is masterpiece whatsoever
They put so much care into this remake that’s it’s almost impossible to break other than that one badge duplication glitch. I wish Pokémon scarlet and violet was like this
This credits theme probably took a bit of inspiration from good friends bad friends and curtain call from the mother series which incorporated themes from locations as character from that location or part of the game appear in the credits.
Even though it's not tugging at the heart strings and making anyone cry, but this is just really nice to see everyone you have met throughout the entire journey walk across the stage doing whatever they do as everyone watches
I honestly didn't expect them to completely redo the credits sequence from scratch, but it's a great change and more thematically appropriate IMO. Also, It took me a moment to notice, but I like that they managed to slip in a cameo from TEC at the very end.

Man what a game this was. I never played the original due to the simple fact that I grew up playing video games around the 2010s so I missed the GameCube and Wii era. I knew about this game for a while but never put too much thought into this game because it was so old and I've always been more of a Mario & Luigi RPG fan anyway, but when this remake came out I saw the opportunity to finally play what most call the best Paper Mario game. I absolutely LOVED all this game had to offer. It was the first time I played a game 100% in a while. This game was truly one of the greatest games I've ever played and I can totally understand all the hype towards this remake, even if I never played the original.
This is gonna be another "I miss the original version of this thing moment" but nah, I'll always be a sucker for a roll call-style credits sequence. Both are still good in their own right. And of course, it's also a good medley.

chapter 6's battle theme was such a banger that the sound team knew they couldn't just let it be underutilized and thus threw it in here
