Greatest channel on youtube. Most people don’t realize that one day these videos will be core memories of the early Space Age for them. Thank you so much
Yeah, I'm GenX so the shuttle was really cool thing to see. I have a video I took from the car of the last shuttle flight. I should post it.
@@DeadCat-42can you post it?
This was clickbait crap. I just unsubscribed.
@@jordach545how 💀💀💀
@@Eddy525_violin tell me, did the video show a flying starship?
Excellent shots.
Sounds like something needs greasing.
The ambient sounds with nobody yammering incessantly over it is a treat.
You could go to the live feeds if you want just the audio from the site.
Thought it was the Whales singing in awe 🇦🇺🤙
the whale songs during the stacking really adds to the feeling of being there
It’s the tower calling for its mate to appear
fastforward clips ought to have their multiplier on screen!
Well, now we the "Mating Call" for Starship.
3:30 Sounds like the Raptors are trying to escape.
Every time I see the sped up video of Starship stacking I play in my head the "pre-launch theme" from the Thunderbirds TV show. ...and now it'll play in your head for the rest of the day. 🤣
Lmao that sound with the lifting. Can’t stop giggling
Awesome one! Go NSF, Go SpaceX and Starship!
In a British accent of course, "The mating call of the starship is a beautiful scene. With the flaps fully extended the starship approaches its resting position on top the booster. It is at this point when the ship QD arm swings in to place to connect where the true magic can begin. Be careful not to spook the starship as a de-stack could be imminent." Cue dramatic music.
My second favorite Starbase sound: Starship stacking and destacking. Thank you NSF.
WD-40 was invented in San Diego in 1953 as a rust-prevention solvent for Atlas missile outer skins by a chemist at the Rocket Chemical Company.
As I recall it was formulation try #40. The first 39 were “less than fully successful….”.
While that's all true, WD-40 is NOT a suitable lubricant for getting rid of the creaking on the tower!!
It's a water dispersant, hence the name "Water Displacement, 40th formula".
It wouldn't last 2 minutes on the tower's creaky bits before being smeared away & evaporating in the Texas heat & winds coming to/from the Gulf!
Yep. It's all solvents and very light oils that evaporatate easily. The bearings need grease and if there's any sliding tracks with like a linear bearing it's the same thing.@@grndkntrl
@@grndkntrl Thank you. I did know that. I was just trying to be funny. It wont happen again.
Booster and ship look majestic in the setting sun. Good Luck SX with ITF IV
Starship stacking with all new sound effects. Love it.❤
Thanks NSF team, time to get the snacks bought for launch day viewing. 🍿 .
I find it amusing that the deluge test was like 2 minutes after NSF decided it wasn't going to happen and ended the stream, lol! (Also, could Jack donate some bacon grease for the chopsticks? )
Another great SpaceX Boca Chica Update NSF, And thank you Mary, Jack, Sean, & SBL for all your great video footage and hard work!!!
Thanks NSF team! It's strange not seeing all 8 vertical tanks.
Man, sounds like the tower really needs to get all it's fittings greased, I can only imagine how horrible that must sound like in person
It's definitely gotten louder over the last year. Oh Jesus it's gotten worse than it was before IFT2.
I'd love to see the guide wheel bearings, cable pulley bearings, and whatever they're using for the arm swing.
@@Jaker788 all those engineers on site or even contractors that use heavy equipment...you'd think they'd know the value of proper maintenance.
@@MrGoesBoom i am pretty sure they know what they re doing.
Tower is unlikely to survive the first catch attempt, so maybe one or two launches til its gone anyways
@@nightowl9519 this was already covered in WAI's video. the booster was shown coming in at an angle keeping the flames away from the towers and giving more time for an abort (which would probably end up being a round landing in the wetlands) also the booster would be almost empty of its fuel, and weigh much less. plus, mechazilla looks quite durable with it being made of large pieces than other launch towers
Great sound effects, well timed mostly...
Let's hope to have a safe rocket in the near future, so we can colonize other planets. I made a video about colonizing Titan for those interested😊
Yes, maybe starhip could be the rocket
😮
Letsgo starship
That's the most annoying sound ever... whoever thought it was a brilliant idea to add those sounds IS A GENIUS, CONGRATULATIONS!! DA
SUPER NICE editing!😮
OMG 😳. What a beautiful job, you guys! 😍.
Thanks so much 😊
That grinding wail sounds like a "pull my finger "moment.
If this goes ahead as planned, it will be a great birthday treat for me, great work all involved @NASASpaceflight
Awesome video of the ship lift, excellent splicing, thank you!
love these
Go for Flight 4 now! Thanks Mary And NSF!
I love ❤️ your camera work! Thanks so very much for your hard work!
Very exciting
Excellent video
What delightful sounds the tower makes when lifting Starship. )
Wonderful
Awesome background music.
Great video. I can't wait for lunch.😊
Let's go!
How exciting 🎉🎉🎉🤩
Loved the prolonged whale song.
Wow😮😮
SWEET
Nice quiet chop stick action there guys...
Space whale communications testing is always exciting!😂😂
NASA Love 🎉❤🎉
We could use someone who speaks Chopstickese for closed caption work ;)
😁
It sounds like Godzilla, too cool.
This is the new fireball XL-4.
What is with the dying walrus audio duing the ship stacking process?? 🤨NSF on point with wierd and wacky audio sampling. 👏
when is launch scheduled???
Nice update. At 3:06 Stage Zero sounds like it could use some WD-40. 🤣
Absolutely not WD-40. Try some actual grease pumps into bearings.
@@Jaker788 It was just a joke.
Imagine if we're driving late at night at Starbase and you hear these sounds!?
👍 What do they do to protect those engines during the deluge test?
The water is coming out at an angle, not straight up.
Sounds like me dragging my carcass up from the couch
IFT-4 here we come
You know why B10 entered the atmosphere at such steep angle. How I didn't realize it before?
The arrow points in the direction
In Star Trek 4 (1986); Scotty: "Admiral, there be whales here!"
Super excited for this Test flight. However, id like a better understanding of the fuel storage.. My understanding is that the external wall of the ship itself form the wall of the fuel tanks , LOX and R50. So , my thoughts are this . Heating of the exterior will increase the volume of gas within the tanks. a KG of lox converts to around 0.8 metres cubed of gas, 865 litres , the Methane will expand nearly 600 times from its liquid state. Of course pressure increase saturation, but this kind of high heat input exposure , is like putting a blow torch to butter. Ultimately it will exceed tank capacity and rupture and or cause surge , as the fuel pumps slug gas instead of air and cause engine shut down. This seems a massive flaw. However , if the were some means of gas recovery, maybe reliquification (Difficult) the latent heat of vaporisation could also be used to good effect to carry heat away from the structure. Its less than ideal though. Id love to work on this but I'm sure they have super boffins already across this, but it seems a bit of a fundamental flaw.
Is there a date for test 4 yet?
Not earlier then June 5th. The date can always change.
Sure this has been answered before, but where is the person controlling this lift?
Back at the main launch control room in the village most likely.
They also probably have auxiliary controls onsite in one of the bunkers closer to the highway entrances to the launch site.
🚀🚀🚀🚀❤️
HOP AND CATCH
What the hell! Is this sound effects or is there a serious problem with the tower?
❤
Going to admit.... i dont really understand or see the point of jettisoning the hot stage ring....
I understand thats its a heavy mass at the very top of the bootser, and very much understand the implications of that for flight dynamics of returning the booster.
I also understand that the ring is a 'temporary' modification overall.
However, they will want to 'build' the hotstage ring into the overall booster design (ie it not be a detachable add-on, but built-in) so that mass by and large will still be there as it would still require its sheilding elements, and the bulk of its mass is that sheilding, not the ring or its reinforcing ribs.
So whilst jettisoning the ring might aid in the very short term, they will still need to have all the flight dynamics controlled and understood with that extra mass at the top irrespective... so why put effort into jettisoning it (a feature they need to add/accommodate) simply to make your short term aim 'easier' (relative term) when that effort is scrapped anyway for the longer term of achieving your goals with that mass present....
It seems like an attempt to change the goal posts to make a success easier to achieve, but knowing that the goal posts will need to be put back anyway with newer boosters with the integrated interstage....
I feel like I'm missing something or they are wanting to make things 'look' better in terms of the optics of these flight tests (ie achieving their test aims and goals)
What is actually making that noise?
Such creaking 😮
👍👍👍
It’s NSF or it didn’t happen. ❤
I took macro photos of a Snail today ,
it is way faster than the chopsticks🤣😂
When
The tower speaks! Sounds in pain. Should have other sound options.
Ship 29 will be destacked once again
👍👍
Imagine you're building the great pyramid and the dinosaur farts.
3:13 My ears!!
Do the chopsticks really make that much noise. Sounds like an old shipyard
What is that sound ?!
It even looks like an Orca.
Jesus! The associated sounds with the video are nuts.
guys love your work but what's with the audio was it really necessary to have the whole video accompanied by terrible screeching?
If it squeals now, I imagine it will scream when it catches the booster...
That tower is in some serious need of WD40.
I think they need a couple of cans of WD40 on the drawworks.
That's a lot of wotah
Still missing tiles?
They test them from top to bottom before launch
Elon, there are some really fabulous flame/ water and heat resistant grease products on the market.... maybe look into that. I would never expect the modern marvel of Stage Zero, to sound like the brakes on my 1970 Ford Econoline or a worn out driveshaft on my 89 Winnebago.
Never mind WDR. Has Spacex ever heard of WD40. That tower could do with a couple of gallons on it

that godawful sound sheesh can nothing be done about it
i hope this video doesnt get copyright striked for sounding awfully similar to the battlefield 2042 soundtrack cause of the random sounds of metal squeling. its so bad^^
Too funny
Let's oil it 😂
Spacex needs to invest in a new company where lubrication is needed to add to the rails on the chop sticks that will never need a new application, that noise sounds painful and wearing…
Last note did they ever do that test where they don’t have a booster on the pad and spin up the outer engine purge? Maybe they skip it now but haven’t seen that one…
That's not likely from the rails. More likely guide wheel bearings and arm pivot bearings or bushings. Even the best lubricant ever will still see metal wear away and stuff like bearings and wheels will need to be replaced.
Stuff like molybdenum grease has it's purpose in some stuff because of it's sacrificial layers it deposits on some metals, but even then it's nanometers thick and only eases wear. Lithium grease is very common and pretty good and universal for all metals and plastics.
Audio is unnecessary during lift…
Elon there’s a walrus in the starship
Something needs some grease or other lubricant.
That sounds worse than a Yorkshiremans wallet opening😂
You'd better hope Chris Bergin doesn't see your comment!! 🤣
anyone got an industrial size bottle of WD-40?
Never been jumpscared by chopsticks before but here we are

7:54 7:56 What happens to the top of the rocket after bottom half is jetisoned on falcon 9
this isn't a falcon9 but normally the top of the rocket goes to space.
Chopsticks sound like the tinman. Needs some oil lol
So isn't there usually a spinup test of the engines with a full wet dress rehearsal?
They seem to have completely eliminated the need to do spin-prime tests with the latest revisions.
@@grndkntrl Thank you!
