The headmaster actually has a weird charm about him. There is nothing wrong with expecting excellence, it gives people the chance to improve themselves and rise to the challenge. Guy seems like the fan favorite character in any period drama.
He has a looong history and reputation to uphold. No student of this school can be less than excellent.
He reminds me of my manager when i was a hotel waiter. He is strict but that is beacuse he believes in you, that you can be better.
He reminds me of my musical theater teacher! Really high expectations, but also kind and with a sense of humour :)
They're babysitters for rich people, nothing to be proud of. I've seen prostitutes treated more humanely than this.

oh. my. god. the guy known as mr. chauca is actually a friend of mine i haven't been in contact with for a while but i knew that going to butler school was always a dream of his. today he randomly sent me this link and told me he finally made it (you did a hell of a job, julio!!) this video has really given me the feeling i know what my friend did to achieve his dream, so i really want to thank you!!

I often find butlers to be rather intimidating, but that's precisely their essence. They exude a quiet and unwavering confidence, a certainty that they possess the ability to work magic and perform their duties flawlessly. Their reliability is truly remarkable.

Every time you dropped a glass I thought the headmaster would get so mad but then after 5 glasses he goes “Ms. Khare you are costing a lot of money in glasses”
i bet the first day everyone drop at least one.
@@crazeguy26 More like one glass dropped every few minutes. Glasses are cheap when you look at the big picture and everyone had to start somewhere. I'm sure it is fun for the headmaster and it really drives mistakes home when the students experience the glass break. Don't forget, the butler who had to sweep the glass during the session...it taught them how to gracefully handle accidents at an event with as little disruption as possible.
Seems to me that part of the training is to become accustomed to disappointment conveyed subtly so that "Ms. Khare you are costing a lot of money in glasses" from your future employer will feel like a slap in the face.

I've served as a waitress for 11 years, and a lot of this is pretty accurate to how training can go in different restaurants. Things like this make me so proud of my career, especially considering the absolute *nightmare* it can be.
"we cannot be considered human anymore" is such a thing. I'm not a human, I'm a product that people pay to see and to help enjoy their evening.
This is whats wrong with society.
You’re literally a human. Today I took my mom out to an early Mother’s Day dinner. Tipped 50% because I got spectacular service. I love when servers have personality.
When you get in the rut of being non human it’s a detriment to your mental health. Everybody is worth value. And never let anybody tell you otherwise.

My toxic trait is thinking I would ace this. My upbringing was so devoid of grace and courtesy. I’ve always been fascinated to learn etiquette as a way to severe ties with my past.
I feel this, and became a teacher for it.
I was a waitress at the highest grossing restaurant in the world...and I rocked that.

This is awesome. I do love that he wasn't offended or angry at you asking a why question. I also like that they didn't cheapen the experience, but gave you a fitting score. This video was great.
I love how the teachers are strict, but not in a way that's scary. I'd expect them to yell at the students if they dropped glasses or let the book fall of their head. Or aggressively confront them and make them feel ashemed. But instead, they just politely told them that she was costing him many glasses and that too many books were falling. No one had to feel ashamed. They're just learning and having a good time doing so.
It honestly amazes me how the headmaster felt so intimidating yet the way he teaches is so engaging to the student. It's such a conflicting feeling in my mind
Absolutely, I despise scary strict authority figures, it does not make one respect you, it makes one despise you.
You can be strict, that is fine, however, it is how you approach being strict.
You have to approach it with an underlying of warmth and politeness for it to be most effective, in my opinion.

The headmaster might be strict, but I have a feeling he gives everyone a chance to improve themselves and actually pays respect. He's taking his time to explain and while his expectations are high, I feel like his disciples are in good hands.

Lol. I looked up the tution fee and that was crazy but man, look at their training. Very high class. It does not only test patience and discipline. It also tests problem solving and wits. Btw, I feel bad for the cleaner but he must be used to it and obviously very well trained. I love how the principal is very purpose driven, a disciplinarian, and still quiet witty and cheerful. This just shows how you are in good hands.

While this sort of program is on the more extreme end, this proves that anything within hospitality is not as easy as it seems. We can go to a restaurant, stay at a hotel, attend a tour, visit a spa -- but as a consumer, you don't realize how much effort and detail goes into your visit/stay. Michelle, thank you for showing this side of hospitality to everyone! And if I could give any advice to anyone reading this, please treat your hospitality staff and locations with care and kindness!
This is why Karen customers are so infuriating. They completely disregard all of the hard work that it takes to work in the hospitality industry.
This is exactly why I also return carts at the grocery store, neatly stack dishes at a restaurant, and bag all trash and put all towels in the shower at hotels. Little things that don’t change my day at all, but if we all put the extra effort would make hospitality/customer service that much easier.

I worked in the service industry for quite a few years (as cabin crew for a major UK airline). Their standards were extremely high and I learned so much, including a greater respect for others in the service industry as well as expecting a certain standard from others. Once you learn how to do things well, you notice it more when things are done badly 😉
@@ChronicRapunzel As someone who worked in the service industry, that stuff is above and beyond... always appreciated, but I never resented people for leaving the usual amount of work for us. What sucked was when customers took their personal issues out on us, creeped on us, or seriously trashed the place. Once a man came into our store and fired off dozens of questions and demands in a tone like we were all beneath him-- then after paying, threw his handful of loose change into the *half-full mug of tea* I was drinking from, instead of the tip jar. Didn't even notice.
I think I can make a perfectly fine judge of the effort put into an experience. This idea that all hospitality workers or servers are giving 100% is ridiculous. Unless you dining in a high class restaurant, genuine service is next to non existent in most other restaurants. This is such a class specific example being presented in this video you'd be an utter fool to think this is the effort universally applied across all service experiences.
The students told Ms.Khare that the HeadMaster is strict but while watching this film, He’s a type of Headmaster generally gives students many chances to ace thier skills. Heartwarming I should say.

You can tell he's passionate about what he teaches. He doesn't just tell the students what to do, when Michelle asked what practical reason there was to set the table exactly like that, he didn't just tell her why, or ignore the question, he had her sit down as a guest and gave a practical demonstration
for me the strict teachers where the one's i learn the most from. some of my favorites drill into us what they was teach us only moving on when we understand what they was talking about.
One of two things. Either it's all for camera (which I doubt). The other is butlers are strict. I'm assuming he's a butler or was one and acting like one. Like he kept saying, you got to smile and not make people uncomfortable no matter who they are. From the video, he was very strict. Measured everything and watched your every move for flaws.
The Headmaster is a class act. Men like him earned their stars and deserve it.
I'm a Doorman and I feel a sort of kinship to Butlers. They're like the highest level of service and I admire that about them. I even thought of being a Butler once.
Honestly the headmaster makes all that hard work seem legit fun. Like, he doesn't get angry at them, he gives them detailed instructions and he's got a good attitude.

I love this video. I can relate totally to it. My grandfather was a professional waiter in New York City after migrating from Italy. He works very high end for the elite, and also went on the trains from New York to Florida, and serve the movie stars of the generation .And Butler’s in a high end servers are very underappreciated service. These people are very humble with a lot of pride, and give their all for others. Love this video.

I love that everyone was super supportive, even the senior/leader-level folks. The academy isn’t nearly as condescending of a place as I expected it to be. I love this!
I would've expected that too, but thinking about it more, I'm not sure why.... butlers work with the very wealthy, but their entire job is to make themselves invisible and do everything their employer doesn't want to. It'd be hard to keep that job if you have an ego problem

So the leaders are hard, but fair to give maximum support to you to learn the stuff.

I really like how he explained why the knife was placed that way. I think sometimes we do things the simpler way because we think its easy. But well, it may be easy to set up but practically, when u are using them, they may not work as nicely or as easily.
I think this applies to design principle as well. Product designers and UI/UX designers need to understand the way people behave to make a product that is easy to use.
Not only that, but this also reminded me of my experience as an ADHDer. I feel like i am my own butler in the way that i arrange my room and belongings. They may not make sense to other people, but in my day to day life, i can feel how the arrangement makes it easier for me to function

I can totally see the interest for being a butler. Being the reliable person in someone's life, striving for perfection, etc. I thought I was the only crazy one but I didn't knew butler school was a thing. And hearing the students reasons really resonates with me.

I dunno man, when that executive lady made a point to congratulate that guy on "landing the job", I get the feeling she really wanted to give the impression that people actually go on to be butlers after this school therefore the opposite is the truth (not many graduates land a butler job). Plus, that guy had the "look". Do you think that D&D lookin' fellow got hired? He was probably a better butler than mr.handsomer.

At first i was concerned, but at the end i was completely taken away, almost brought to tears with the passion of the people and i have gained a newfound respect for this job and for the people doing it.

I was expecting Mr. Kaufman to be super strict and scary from the vibes before he came on, but man he actually seemed like a really good, fun teacher who would actually be able to teach so strictly but not have people hate him. He's still got a warm demeanor and makes things fun. :)

Yeah I once was peacefully trying to leave high school to go home then one of the staff asked me to give some younger students advice about a math competition as I was there the previous year but
I am an introvert and I don't like too much attention
I was not prepared at all and I had no idea what to say
All the students were boys and there were at least three teachers I know
It was in covid and they asked me to take off my mask but I was so used to it that I was self aware of my face
It was in ; tiny room full of strangers and they were paying so much attention because they genuinely wanted to know about the competition
And when I started this one teacher interrupted me and said that I didn't even greet them and started talking about the topic
It was so awkward but I think it was better that I feared lol

This is one of the most wholesome Challenge Accepted videos. So much to unpack, so many lessons that often get overlooked. The principal is simply superb, almost like a favourite fictional character and the students are great too. Really enjoyed it!

I love how the head master explains stuff when asked instead of just saying do it. The way he approaches her questions are absolute
yeah when he has her sit down. and shows her the knife placement. shows her the reason rather than just say it's how we do it. i always learn better from that type of situation. understand why something is done rather than just doing it.
That shows he is a good teacher. He is not only telling facts. He trains the understanding of the mindset behind you can adapt also in other situations. She feels the difference grapping the knife and what's the different for the guest. And that makes her more understand what it means "make a moment and all as easy as possible" than just telling facts could do.
That boy she met when helping with their lunch and the river decor I love his speech when they were cleaning the bathrooms ❤

Well it seems like adaptability is definitely a prized trait here so the chance to introduce something unexpected may well have had it's appeal.
the trainee butler's words of widom at 25:45 really struck a chord with me. i'm a software developer as well and i never would have expected someone like that to be in butler academy of all places. but his words on wanting to become more humble and go back to basics really resonated with me. this was a really eye opening episode from michelle!

I was thinking the same thing. It just hit me, especially the part where he said, sometimes the way down is the way up.
Personally, I think it does make sense a programmer is doing this type of work. To be a great programmer you need to highly skilled at what you, attention to detail is paramount as a simple error would mean your code will not work.
It really highlights just how curious we are to find more out about ourselves. I applaud his curiosity and bravery to commit wholly to something so obscure to earn life experiences and foster his desire to step outside the box. How odd and very impressive! It reminded me we are so fluid as people and "the human experience" is so unique and remarkable.

Michelle as a butler sounds like an intriguing challenge after all her intense physical challenges. Not saying that this isn't a physical demanding challenge but it's definitely more a hybrid of physical, intellectual and behavioural challenge. I like how she mixes it up and keeps us guessing.

Being a buttler seems like such a surreal thing, like the man said. Its insane to those of us who aren't on the west. Its like you have to embody elegance and a philosophy of life.
I mean, it's not like butlers (and maids) are uniquely to the west.... In 2014, China was the country with Butlers being the biggest trend, even.

Yes, there is. This setting is for a Banquet Service. You put all of your silverware on the table at the start of the meal (rather than setting the table for each course, as you would in a restaurant). That achieves two things - you need fewer servants, as they only need serve & clear each plate, not re-set each course, and it provides an impressive display (of your wealth, if you like) for your guests when they first see the table. That display only works if each and every item is in exactly the same place - imagine a row of glasses, and one glass is out of place. It would be so obvious that you would only see the "error" glass, and not the display. If everything is in exactly the same position when the guests first see the table then it's like a perfect row of soldiers.

If the bread plate, drinks or saucer is too far to one direction, guests don't know if it's for them or the person next to them. Also, when people don't put things on the right place, it gets harder and harder to fit everything onto the table. If things are out of place it also distracting to the people sitting at the table. There is a ton of stuff there and it could be a mess but from their perspective, it looks clean.
Okay but can we talk about the programming guy? He was so well spoken and humble. I really admired the things he had to say.

Butlers have a purpose when you are expected to appear at a certain level. A king for example could not do it all himself. That being said, King Charles has his staff squirt toothpaste on his toothbrush which is excessive.
The first lesson with the circle walking was honestly awesome, that’s such a great way to teach them, it’s a game and a lesson at the same time and he teaches so happily and has a lot of passion in the lesson, that would be an incredibly fun class to attend, he doesn’t bully the students for mistakes he just makes small jokes and gives genuine instructions and advice. No wonder he’s the headmaster! lol

As a teacher, I really enjoyed watching the headmaster. He seems very strict, but also wants to see his students truly succeed and isn't afraid to make a few jokes. Obviously he may be very different when not being filmed and not training a temporary student, but I really enjoyed watching his interactions.
