      We need maximum creativity, put some good story elements in how to ruin yet another race, it's an Italian squad after all! They can do sooo many things to stay in character: Run completely out of fuel from P1 3 laps from finish. Accidentally swap the cars and get both of them DQ'ed. Put fronts on the rear and burnout the entire length of the pit lane. Forget to remove an ice cooler in an intake. Forget to take the tire blankets off. Send a driver out of the pits for the final Q3 lap and forget to remove the TV's from his halo. Forget to do a pitstop altogether and get DQ'ed. Refuel during a pitstop and get DQ'ed. Do a running-to-the-car classic Le Mans start and get DQ'ed. Put a car in the wrong direction on the grid. Show up at the wrong track on thursday and don't make it to the right track until after qualifying.
      If anything, the season will be too short for them to tick off all boxes.

      He was 2 laps down, no chance of scoring points. The right thing to do was retire the car, instead he goes back out and doesn't last 4 corners and brings out a VSC ruining other teams races. This is why top teams don't want new teams coming in. Not because they are threated by the competition, because they don't want back markers plodding around the track and ultimately ruining races and strategies for teams up front.

    Honestly, the fact that the drivers in the Green Room all agreed that it was ludicrous to stay on (by that point) used mediums instead of pitting and going to fresh softs, tells me all I need to know about the Merc strategy. Basically, George was right, and if Lewis wanted to have any chance, Merc would've needed to pit both of them for softs, not let them both stay out. Lewis' mediums only warmed up enough again after about 2-3 laps after the end of the safety car. That means that if Lewis and George had both stayed out, Max and Charles would've both easily overtaken them and they would've been off the podium, most likely, before the mediums would've given them a fighting chance of fighting back against attacks. I know it's hard when you're in first place to make strategy calls, but this one seemed like a slam dunk to the podium drivers... why did it not seem that way to Merc?

      Yes, but having 2 mercs in front can give the opportunity to block others; If one merc is trying to overtake the over, there's no place for ver to go through. Or the 2nd merc can be slow (kinda like perez in abu dahbi 2021), stuff like that. There was some chance they could keep 2 podium finishes. A win was most likely out the windows, and putting them both on soft was probably the best option (though red bull and ferrari maybe wouldn't have pitted and gotten track pos), but allowing one driver to pit was the stupidest thing they could and have done. Both option had the opportunity to be a 2-3 and they took the one that garanteed not a 2-3. Merc really isn't good in split second decisions

    • @Fachuro
      @Fachuro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      At that point the strategy blunder was actually Hamiltons - it wasnt necessarily such a bad idea to pit George and keep Lewis out anyways, but Hamilton shouldn't have restarted in such an obvious place, it stretched out the field and gave George no opportunity to attack Max - he should've coordinated more by looking in his mirrors to restart when George was closing in on Max so George could attack Max and force him to defend, that would've been the one chance they had at a victory after the VSC happened, if Max had to defend the restart against George and couldn't focus properly on attacking Hamilton on the first lap.

      I like how everyone keeps mentioning "it's hard to make strategy calls when you're in first" when Max and RB did just that. Both realized they'd be sitting ducks on Hards with two Mercs on Mediums behind them. They made the call, and Mercedes failed to react. It's not quite Abu Dhabi this time, because Max made the move in front of them. They sat on their hands relying on strategy that worked when their car was the best on the track, and they had a rear gunner. George is not a rear gunner though. He knew the Mediums were spent forced the pit, because that's what Champions do.

    12:05 yeah lots of people bandwagonning on this idea especially after nico supported it himself, but when you see how verstappen ate lewis in litteraly no corner just the straight line when the safety car ended, you can't seriously believe there was even a slimmer of hope verstappen would be somehow stuck beind on fresh softs for 14 laps.
    That's delusions and russell was able to think straight and call for a stop. Lewis and Mercedes both got too high on the idea of getting their first win that they failed to think properly and see that it was completely out of reach, unless russell crashed into max.
    The simple fact that russel overtook lewis this easily after the safety car is a dead give-away that the plan wouldn't have worked, and that mercedes would have even lost the two podium places, and i commend russell for his quick thinking.

    George was smart and got himself a podium. If Lewis would have wanted to pit they would have given him priority and maybe even left George out. Its funny how good Lewis is at blaming others. In Hungary were George got f***ed by the tire strategy he didnt blame the team over the radio. And everybody just congratulated Lewis for finishing in front of George even though the reason way tire strategy.

    About Tsunoda, what I heard from a Brazilian commentator (former F1 test driver and CART driver Max Wilson) was that if the team let him go on track with a loose tyre that might be grounds for a significant penalty, so they might have claimed there was no loose tyre on the radio and then called him to the pit to actually check.
