When I was a host at a restaurant I would go so out of my way to avoid doing that because I hated how it looked. I’d drag a table from across the restaurant to avoid making an 8. It just looks silly! He’s so right.
Just watched an interview with Jason Alexander ... he wanted to be a dramatic stage actor in college but his teacher said “ur balding and fat, think about comedy”. The rest is history
More that I think about it, the more I realize... She looks like she's Chinese (more likely Korean). In China, 8 is a luckiest number, so joining the tables together to form an 8 might actually be a good thing
“Well, birthdays are merely symbolic of how another year has gone by and how little we've grown. No matter how desperate we are that someday a better self will emerge, with each flicker of the candles on the cake, we know it's not to be, that for the rest of our sad, wretched, pathetic lives, this is who we are to the bitter end. Inevitably, irrevocably; happy birthday? No such thing.”
Hey, at least they were trying to support George by toning down the funny when he asked them to. Didn't work ofcourse, but the fact that they tried means something.
Although this show isn’t supposed to present any deep character studies, Jason Alexander really infused Costanza with all kinds of surprising depth, and in a genius move by Larry David and the writers, created George’s wildly funny parents that perfectly explained the origins of his neuroses. All in all, George Costanza might be TVs all time greatest comic creation (IMHO).
In an interview with Alexander, he said “I could only basically play 2 characters in his acting range - Woody Allen and William Shatner” .... George is the perfect combination of both.
He's better than I would be, catering to a pal's needy insecurities, LOL. Wonder if Jerry was prepared to remain bleak in front of this girl forever ... had George and she become a permanent couple.
It was always something fun when the character of Jerry had to change his demeanor in some way, whether it was releasing emotions (the "Serenity Now" episode, featuring him yelling at and berating his girlfriend, his first time crying, telling George "I love you", and popping the question to Elaine) or here where he feigns a somber and maudlin personality in order to appease George's neurotic and insecure needs.
Yes it's called editing. 2 different scenes, edited closer together for the sake of making a shorter TH-cam video instead of uploading half the entire episode. :|
He's the weirdest, desperate, inadequate in the show, from the character's vantage point of view, and that's not funny but a little creepy; Jerry on the other hand is fun and seems to be the most normal of all of them. But I agree, to the viewers George has nothing to worry about, he's hilarious.
Deep obsevation ~ I missed that & it's disturbing ~ we need a huge roundtable get together to discuss those types of observations ~ can you set this up ~ frankly I'm worried 😟😫😳
Where is the scene where George tells the Chinese woman that he convinced Jerry to act like he’s not funny, so that she would think George was funnier. George was a disturbed man.
In George's 'dream sequence' her raucous laugh is dubbed in at the end. Her mouth is almost closed. This may be why they had her bend down at the table.
“no you can’t do that, it’s round and it makes an 8” that is actually fantastic logic
haha yeah that's the most Larry David line ever.
It's not an ideal setup but it still follows logic. Putting the tables closer brings them physically closer.
When I was a host at a restaurant I would go so out of my way to avoid doing that because I hated how it looked. I’d drag a table from across the restaurant to avoid making an 8. It just looks silly! He’s so right.
Well they should, I own the place.

LOL! 😂🤣😂
Just watched an interview with Jason Alexander ... he wanted to be a dramatic stage actor in college but his teacher said “ur balding and fat, think about comedy”. The rest is history
That's right George. Now you suddenly seem so immature.
In the german version he says "...short, baldy four-eye, who only looks funny"
😂😂😂😂
0:35 I am just amazed how Jerry moved seats so fast...
0:45 you donkey
Good eye.
No wonder George was worried. Not only is he funnier, he developed the speed of the Flash.
I never noticed that!!!
Lmao I never even noticed that
Always die laughing that George's last ditch effort to get them not to join them at dinner is that joining the tables together makes an 8 lmfao 🤣🤣
More that I think about it, the more I realize... She looks like she's Chinese (more likely Korean). In China, 8 is a luckiest number, so joining the tables together to form an 8 might actually be a good thing
It looked like Jerry almost cracked up lol
"I'm depressed! I'm disturbed! I'm inadequate! I got it all!"
😂classic!
But is he deranged, though? 🤔
I just love the fact that George pictures the dinner with him wearing that coat 😆
LOL, me too! 😂🤣
He'd never heard of corduroy
Me too
Oh man, so good
I said same thing lol
I like how George, Jerry and Elaine are dressed in the exact same way during George’s “vision”
🤣
I actually thought about rewinding the video just to check if they were wearing the same clothes LOL

some of his shortcomings but there are more

I like how Jerry went from being funny to the total opposite depressed dude . No in between for Jerry
And yet, things always seem to even out with him.
I have to go with Jerry for the win on this clip. His over-the-top attempt at being serious when the woman comes back to the table is hilarious. 🤣
Ah I was looking forward to the exchange with "Am I being funny now? Is this funny?"
And George angrily replies "...It's funny!" 🤣🤣
Same
That makes three of us.
I came here just for that and it’s not here 🤦♂️
George pushing Jerry and Elaine away 2:34😂😂😂
Jerry became a nihilist philosopher in an alternate timeline
"Dark and disturbed?! His entire life revolves around Superman, and cereal!"
And she dug the dark and depressed even more than George's comedy!
I loved that bit!
The way George pushes Jerry and Elaine always crack me up

He could've just tried to, y'know, not be so funny.
My favorite part in this episode.
"What do you do for work?"
"I'm a comedian."

Anyone else notice how Jerry changes his side of the booth in the middle of the scene at the diner? Love it lol.
They are round. It makes an eight. Lmao!
4:10 “Hello.”
You can tell Elaine and George thought that was damn funny, just like the rest of us.
The moment said "el clowno", he was destined to fail with her.
the fact that George doesn't wanna bring Jerry aka Joy boy with him is hilarious..😅😅
I like how instead of turning down being funny Jerry became someone who is just down and out and has a negative outlook on life
Notice how Jerry is sitting next to George in the booth and the next cut scene he's on the opposite side sitting next to Elaine.
Yes, I just noticed that ; is the clip edited, or did they really mess that up ?
I did, but it can be simply explained away by saying Jerry switched seat. It's an outer-seats switch, not an inner-seats switch.
Good catch
