    The Japanese have raised the bar in the music world. It's not just rock and metal. Their pop music and jazz are on a whole other level as well. I haven't really enjoyed music since the early eighties. With my discovery of the Japanese music scene, my love for music has been reborn.

      I completely agree, the eighties is when I started to become bored and dissatisfied with the majority of music being put out, it wasn't until 2016 when I discovered Band Maid that I really started to feel good about music again, now because of the Japanese music scene, I'm happier than ever, thank you and happy birthday Miku.

    Japanese music has expanded our musical world in more than one way. In my case it's not that i hated pop music, it's just it has become so boring and uninteresting here in the west... but fortunately J-pop works in a very different way, god bless them for keep the genre alive and well

    Miku with Miku on backup vocals is pretty great.
    And she really rocks that Hippy inspired version of the Decora style.
    Did you see all of those Zemaitis guitars?
    They really picked a winner.
    The other musicians in the music video were:
    Bass: Jo Nagaike from Scoobie Do
    Guitar: Hiroki Tanaka from Lego Big Morl
    Drums: Shogo Yoshida from Unchain
    The song production is credited to an unknown artist named Crow. Lyrics are by Miku.
    She has confirmed in several interviews that none of the other BAND-MAID members were involved in this song, although they were all supportive.
    And Akane is a big cluppo fan. : )
    As Saiki once pointed out to her, "You know that's just Kobato, right?".

    i remember waiting for Band-Maiko's new song to drop that April 1st. Was so excited to see what would be the next astounding song by Band-Maid's rivals. And then... this dropped. And I was like "What the heck is this? Did the maids go pop as a joke?" And I am not a pop fan... Well, American pop. Where two lines of lyrics make up the entire song on repeat. Anywho! Listened to this, and boom. Pigeon flapped away my worries. It's a super catchy tune, with great sound, and energy. Later saw a vid of Miku working on the hand movements, to perfect the waving of the hands into a heart gesture she does, and thought to myself, "This woman has one awesome band already, practices constantly, does so much work already! And then she's just gonna pop out MORE stuff? Where does she find the time?!" Mad Respect.

    Ryan, While I absolutely love anything Band Maid, I bought Cluppo's album and love it. It gives a side of Miku that we really see. She IS musically creative in way we Maidiacs don't really see. Her sentiments and words are genuine and that's what makes me love the album and her.

    She was asked about Cluppo using the Flappy Pigeon in one of the Cluppo interviews IIRC, & her response was the Flappy Pigeon fits the harder BAND-MAID Kobato image, not Cluppo's... so Flappy Pigeon is a BAND-MAID exclusive guitar & she hasn't played it in any of the Cluppo MV's.
    She DID bring her Pearl Ring Chess Zemaitis out of retirement for the POGO MV though. It was the first time she used it since the Gion-cho MV.

    Like you I was not sure to begin with. Even though I love band maid, some of there music requires a second or third listen to appreciate. Which then opens up other forms of music to enjoy. And thus I am still tumbling along the rabbit hole of music. Stops a sixty year old from going "back in my day" hole.

    Hint: if unsure about a song, always give it a try with headphones; often you'll hear cool details and complex arrangements you didn't notice before.
    As far as J-Pop goes, cluppo is still leaning very much to the Rock side of it, and I loved PEACE & LOVE first time I heard it. And Miku always knew you would also appreciate it eventually...
    All of us have pre(mis?)conceptions as to which music genres we like and which we don't. Sometimes it takes just the right artists to lead us into a new genre and open our eyes, for me often a Japanese artist because they work so much with genre fusion. Cluppo is one example but e.g. I also _thought_ I never liked hip-hop & dance until very recently Wave reacted to Wang Dang Doodle and I checked out the rest of their stuff; turns out all it needs is more creative arranging & mixing with blues.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Giving this EP a chance was most likely the start of me being more open minded to basically pure J-Pop that is not mixed with a lot of other stuff. It still has a lot of things I am not a huge fan of, but I do put it on every half a year or so and enjoy it when I do. The whole genre (not only the Japanese side) has so much stuff I really dislike in music (mainly vocal production wise), but I have come to appreciate some of the artists in J-Pop that do mix in some other genres as well (thanks to a couple of requests that push them on multiple channels) like Zutomayo or Yorushika. And while I might not always be in the mood, those tracks are generally good fun, especially Zutomayo live (what a show).
      The more Idol side is generally still a step too far for me in most cases (I do appreciate Atarashii Gakko though), but I have a lot of appreciation of the work and dedication that goes into making the music and performing all that stuff for both J-Pop and the Idol side (not to mention the stageshow of some of those artists). There is no question that a lot of work and attention to detail goes into making that type of music sound the way it does. I just generally prefer less produced music myself.

    • @maidsandmuses
      @maidsandmuses 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MaartenT TBH, I struggle with most bands, regardless of genre. J-Pop & J-Rock do suffer from the same problem that their Western equivalents suffer from: a huge number of bands that are technically very competent, but don't really stand out in terms of individual songwriting, sound, or vocals. At least this "common denominator" level songwriting in Japan seems to be more complex than in its Western counterparts, esp. chord progressions and bass lines.
      One can argue about this forever, but I have a big problem with the Idol side of the industry where the artist is simply a producer-manufactured performance artist, and doesn't have a major input in the music writing. I am a big proponent of bands writing their own music and playing their own instruments, for reasons I will not go into here. BAND-MAID are one of a few exceptions that were lucky enough to have very good songwriters working for/with them early on, and clearly the talent, willpower and stamina to stick with that until they got where they really wanted to be writing their own music. Kudos to them for ignoring their label's choice for first MV.
      Vocals are usually my biggest issue; many singers have a technically perfectly acceptable voice, but for me they just don't have that "wow" factor that takes it to a different level, or what individual vocal character there was gets smothered in production. I prefer vocals with character, even if that means that they sing technically "flawed". Of course, instrumentals avoid that problem altogether.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@maidsandmuses
      I agree that there certainly are a lot of bands that are really proficient at their instruments, but might nog play music that really grabs me. I have tried to discover a bunch of different genres that I typically didn't listen to (anymore in some cases) starting at this year by importing their albums and giving them an honest shot and while I like most of them, there aren't a lot of them that I will putting on. It might be because of the large amount of different albums, but most of them don't grab me as much as some bands do. But they are clearly still very good at what they do.
      As far as Idols go, I had the same mindset as you and I still do to some extent (I also prefer people playing their own instruments), but I changed my mind about some of it after having played the Yakuza 5 video game of all things. There is a part where you play as one of the younger side-characters for a while where she is trying to become an Idol including different dancing rhythm games and it made me realize how much work if must be for them to get the choreography in top-shape. I never really thought about it like that until having played that game and you can argue that it doesn't have anything to do with the music (which I agree with), but it's still something you need to be very passionate and dedicated about so it gave me more appreciation for it. I still generally don't like the music and depending on the act I am generally bothered by the way they get dressed and things like that though. So in the case of Atarashii Gakko, I like that they apparently do their own choreo, it makes up for me for not playing their own instruments, that said I am not sure if I would enjoy listening to their albums. I will just put on a video or reaction every once in a while and that's fine with me.
      And yes, vocals are generally my main issue as well but mainly because I dislike the production that gets put on it. A lot of them have pretty good voices live as well, which bothers me even more. I can see pitch-correcting vocals that don't sound good, but making them sound like a robot while you have a good vocalist. Fate Gears tracks with Nana come to mind as does Asterism, Trident, Hagane and even Su's vocals in Babymetal (and I say this as a non-Babymetal fan but she has a pretty good voice). It hurts my soul, it's like they don't trust the talent they have in their bands. You take away the soul of a singer by adding all that electronic trickery, it's a shame and it defeats the purpose of having a singer imo. And to be fair, even Band-Maid uses a lot of effects nowadays on their albums, it's generally not the effects that I dislike that much, but they are certainly there.

    • @maidsandmuses
      @maidsandmuses 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MaartenT You can blame the preferred modern production methods for that. Manual pitch correction is one thing, smothering in auto-tune quite another. But that's what many listeners are used to now, and have come to expect, unfortunately. The same goes for dynamic compression, brick-wall filters, and the loudness-war, which I am sad to say takes away significantly from how much better still BAND-MAID production _could_ be. I was hoping the 2 remastered 10th anniversary albums would have addressed this, but unfortunately they are even worse and suffer from audible compressor gain-pumping artefacts driven by Akane's kick-pedal work, noticeably affecting Saiki's vocals.
