One of my favorite parts is California dream, the echoing of the Mac miller beat from Faces, plus Vince and soul being good friends of Mac was a nice tribute
That line “Read between the lines like when the spelling be wrong”. He’s pronouncing Read like “red” like when a teacher put red marker marks when you misspell a word
It was a triple entendre. Read (red) between the lines, but also read between the lines, as in understanding what is missing. But also, if you listen to his old music "read between the lines" meaning hope you ain't following me word for word, and instead interpreting what he meant.
I mean, sure there is a red line underneath misspelled words. But when that happens, you aren't reading between any lines. The entire bar doesn't hold up and make sense, really. When the spelling is wrong there is just one line, the one you are writing on. There are no lines to read between.

Thank you Beezy 430, for acknowledging how cool the Doechii element was on I, Myself & Me. I understand why people wanted a verse but I LOVE how her voice was implemented on that track, sonically it just sounds so good especially with the way this album was mastered? I feel like this record has a soft and comfortable sound, and the way she delivers her parts on that track just sounds so good… like her voice was used as an instrument in a really awesome way.
I've put these thoughts on basically every Soul-burger review I've watched so I'll just put it here too because I really enjoy the album: I really feel like this album is beautiful. It wasn't what I expected but when you look into the backstory of this album it is a lot more interesting and gives more context to the weird song concepts (Which Soul is known for at this point). This being an ode to his dead brother Doeburger, and this album was allowing him to live through Soul. Peace was probably my favorite track off the album because of this.
Herbert was much better project for me. I’m with Rod on this , there was some massive misses for me that takes the highs of the project down. I keep saying it I hope Soulo get his slap to play at festivals but this wasn’t for me 🤷🏾♂️
@@alexfdezpal it wasnt DJ Hed tbf, Ab Soul himself said it on the rollout for Herbert( on Joe budden pod) too. It isn’t new. He also spoke about how not having a song to play at the Pop out, I think they could’ve done “Illuminate” and Vice City us hip hop nerds would’ve loved it but I also get it . Ab soul wants some mainstream love. Personally I think that ship has sailed and he needs to feed his core more but what do I know just some guy online 😂

I would give this album a 7 out of 10. I wasn't too happy with the album direction or the sounds as a whole. Rappin was 10, but hooks was meh most of the time. I'm glad Ab Soul dropped the record overall
That’s the thing about rushing to drop reviews, we don’t give the album time to sit with us. This album def requires multiple active listens, and even the songs you didn’t care for initially definitely grow on you. I guarantee you the cast here has different opinions now than they had a month ago🔥
May only disagree with replay value. After listen #2 throughout, I feel it has more replay value maybe B- at lowest for me. But that’s not picky….. wish Doechii had a verse tho but it was dope what they did
I wanted to note that Ab-Soul brought Fre$h on tour as his opener for the Herbert run. I wanna say they even teased their track on this Soul Burger project during the show but my memory is fuzzy on it. Stellar album I agree only real miss is Go Pro for me
It's got a few misses, but the highlights are so amazing. The overarching theme of bridging his and Doeburgers' identities was very engaging. I only wish he went even deeper with the idea.
Rods reaction to Bucko jr. was unwarranted. His flow and lyrics were so hard. Only criticism is it dragged a little towards the end. Could've been shorter or had a good feature to break him up from killing that beat
Sorry for leaving so many comments lol but yeah that Notorious NIQ verse left a lot to be desired. The exact same line that Rod brought up definitely had me rolling my eyes lol.

I think a huge reason why HERBERT was so slept on at least within the crew is because you guys uploaded your Top 10 Albums of 2022 video before the actual review. I thought HERBET was the album of the year but I will admit that it was somewhat of an exhausting listen and nowhere near Ab-Soul's best album looking back on it. I really dug what Ken said about the album gets better and better with every listen and you could argue that tracks 7-10 were the tracks that Doe Burger wanted Ab-Soul to experiment with to fuse the album together. Sky's The Limit is the most polarizing track on the album. The timing is cool because it makes you miss Biggie during a time where his partner or boss (Puffy) is being exposed. Overall the track has some good moments but the hook and they some bars from Soul come off corny and over produced. It makes you want to listen to Sky's The Limit more than anything. BUCKO JR I thought was a dope track and the most aggressive and evil Soul has sounded since Pineal Gland but you got to be in the mood for it. The mainstream attempts were pretty skip-able but I could see the female appealing to the masses and she did come off with an effective attitude. The Fresh collaboration was dope on track 8 and I think it will make Soul connect with some younger fans who missed out on the TDE hey day back on 2011-12. The Schoolboy track "Paiday" was really dope and it should play really well at a concert. The opening tracks were all on point even the Vince track was relaxing and laid back but not exactly a cohesive collaboration. The Crazier track with JID is the highlight and arguably the best verse all year from Ab-Soul where he plays of JID's verse with the "Pussy Tastier" line, the Kendrick leaving TDE with the Money Trees and Savior closing was epic and obviously as Feefo pointed out thaht Justin Herbert line is most vicious and confident Soul line since Control System. Squeeze First 2 was definitely similar to that Boys in the Hood closing sequence with the Jazzy Sax and maybe the best track on the whole project. Peace was dope and very creative. It came off to me like Lupe was supposed to represent everything Ab-Soul wanted to be and Doe Burger and Punch tracks were designed to transform Ab-Soul back to life. Either way it was a dope concept similar to Nas' Live Now from Street's Disciple. The closing Rightous Man reminded me musically of a cross between How Much A Dollar Cross mixed with the punctuation of Mortal Man. I feel like he reflected on the criticism of Do What Thou Wilt better here than he did on HERBERT.
