Will, would you consider an update for Windows 11 ? There are a couple of differences when setting up the static IP. I tried to set it up but Windows would not let me save my selections. The DHCP got me going for now though.
I recently learned what a virtual machine was and I use this exact app! It's so cool! I have to use a virtual machine for a specialized reason and It's very strange how I'm in another machine essentially, and WHILE I NEVER EVER EVER EVER would, what's weird is I could download a computer virus on a virtual machine, and it wouldn't ruin my actual PC. It's so weirdd. It's like I'm on somebody else's computer, and yet I'm not.
first of all i love your videos they really help for configuration. here i am having a challenge i do manage to connect to the vm remotely though it keeps saying my username or password is incorrect. this is the challenge am facing. though on the vm if i log off i use the same password and it works fine
Hey, for the people that have intermediate experience, could you add a shortened steps list with all specifics in your description? It would be very helpful and time saving for the more advanced viewers
Hey, @SpaceRex I was following your video, but when I try to change my IP address to static there is no IP settings on my network tab, so I cannot change it from automatic to manual. Have you gone through this problem ever?
I have setup ip address, but encounter connection errors in rdp clients. I see windows vm device in router settings, but in synology vm manager ip is -. What am i doing wrong?
SpaceRex oddly enough I watched the video you did on this as well but it gets stuck on connecting. Any thoughts on what to look for in the setup? I used L2TP in the VPN Server and set it up through System Preferences and it just never connects. Do I have to be off my local network to test a valid connection?
Great videos SpaceRex. I've set this up using windows server datacentre as it's got less bloatware than windows 10. I think I've managed to set up the static IP (slightly different method to the one on the video), but when I try to connect I get an error code. Do I need to open a port on my router for this to work or something ? The error code is... Error code: 0x516 Extended error code: 0x0 Activity ID: {982004f3-36ea-425f-b028-1559d8950000} Ty for helping
@SpaceRex Is there a way to power on a VM from an SSH session? I do not want to have the VM running all the time on an offsite Synology Server. I would like to be able to SSH to the sever, start the VM and then RDP to the VM over a VPN. Any suggestions?

Any way to remotely connect to the vm through Remote Desktop while away from your NAS location (not on the same network)? Thank you so much!
Yes. Setup a VPN server on your synology

Is it possible to port forward on your router and connect externally?

Agreed this is a much better implemntation of VM, shame my old PC doesn't support Remote Desktop (Needs to be Win 10 Pro :( )
Yeah it makes it so much more usable! Sucks that its not across the board
what is the keyboard shortcut to get into windows VM using mac keyboard?
Thanks! is it possible to store user credential without entering them any time?
How is the performance? What's the dsm model?
it works for exams in browser lockers??
Helpful! Thank you for doing this.
If you give access to your virtual machine remotely to someone can they access your host pc?

same for me also
When I change the IP settings on the VM the network status changes to "No Internet access" and the remote connection does not work. Any ideas?
Sounds like the IP you set is not in your subnet. Change it to DHCP and just lookup the IP if it changes
@SpaceRex, Is there a way to configure this for Remote Desktop access off the local network?
Yeah. I would setup a VPN server and connect back this is the most secure way

You will want to setup a VPN server

Hmmm I am sure that there is but do not know of the commands. You might ask synology or someone here might know
How can we access it when we are not in home network? 192.168.1.155 will only work when we are in home network.
You can setup a vpn server and use that to connect back to your network securely th-cam.com/video/1aaqqw3eQac/w-d-xo.html
