This is just sad. We have no power AND no water at my complex. I had to leave to go to Austin...for a CATEGORY 1 HURRICANE!! This is insane.
I'm an Electrician. If you wanted Solar/Battery back up installed BEFORE THE STORM... we have to call them to disconnect your meter before we start the job...then have them return to hook it back up when we have completed our work... BEFORE the storm, Centerpoint refused to show up for the temp disconnect/reconnects... they said it would be a few weeks while they were updating things.... like basically telling all Houston Electricians to take a month off or what?
I tried and failed to contact their emergency line when a ground mount transformer was exploding. What if that ended up burning down the house?

All that don’t matter…..we just had a storm last year and had frezze over 2 year before that and again center point fails or city I should say.
their priority is not to help customers generate their own power
Thats exactly what Im thinking. My husband is a journeyman as well. This problem with power failure is a piss poor system that has forever needed upgrades to begin with. They knew and were aware years ago and yet here we are again. Yet Ercot is untouchable/ Centerpoint, our system as a whole is F'd. @jay_officialtv4000
This was all planned the way they're handling it. I have never gone days without power in my area during ANY storm since I've lived here. They've planned these delays. We live 30 NW of Houston. Our power provider and line management is San Bernard Electric Coop. No lie: Power went out at 7 am on Monday in the middle of the hurricane. Power was restored at 3 PM on Tuesday!! And, they have an Outage App, so we knew the outage was reported and when linemen were on their way! That is how you run a power company! We love San Bernard!!
August or September to put up a map online? That’s crazy. The incompetence of Centerpoint is infuriating. This is what happens when we trust one private company to be responsible for power distribution to the entire city.
We called center point twice to let the know that there was a downed line at my backdoor. We thought that they would remove the line before they re-energized the lines, however they turned on the power even though they knew the line was down. We called after the line was energized, and told them no one came to remove the line lying right outside my door! They told us to call 911!!!! We said we have called yall three times.
Inappropriate use of 911 first off! They knew right at the beginning the line was down at our door, and they chose to ignore it!

They should have been better prepared due to population density. In Florida, crews from all over the Country arrive early and we usually have the power restored within 24 hours. Most of our wires and poles, transformers have been replaced with new equipment. That needs to be addressed also...
Yep, after the back to back hurricane seasons of 2004/2005, FPL and S FL upgraded a lot of the infrastructure. Concrete poles, no wired lights across the intersections, burying wires if they can. We lost power for 11 days in 2004, haven't lost power more then a few hours since. FPL has an emergency command center that gets activated when there are hurricanes headed to Florida.
