I've been to this island several times, it very beautiful there. It is small, we rode around
the whole island on a scooter in 3 1/2 hours, even stopping at some tourist spots. The language in the southern
Philippines is Bisayan, mostly the same alphabet as the English language, same vowels, BUT different sounds.
You can't pronounce their words using English.
Camiguin is pronounced "come - ME - gun" accent on the "ME."
The big island to the south, Mindanao, is pronounced "MEND - duh- now" accent on the "MEND",
which is where I met my wife.
If your healthy, great place to settle down. Good hospitals are far away.
Great video! love it.... I do miss this little island. VERY friendly ppl here!
If all possible, visit here in October, when the lanzones festival is going on.
lanzones is a fruit about the size of a golf ball,,,,,,VERY DELICIOUS!!

Wow thanks for the beautiful vlog. I'm local from one of the other islands. I'm thinking of retiring in another island to stay away from my family and neighbors. If you're Pinoy you know what I mean.😊
My parents left properties and farms for us but last time I went home several houses literally standing next to my ancestral house. It's a lot of headache getting rid of them. Court and yes you pay them to get out of your property. So this is what I'm thinking go to the other islands that nobody knows me. I definitely retire back to our islands, cheap and the weather and the sound of the rooster every morning. Might be weird but I miss the island vibes.

Thanks for making this video. There are of course 2 major costs, electricity and gasoline, which are much higher than in North America. Living up the mountainside where it's cooler can save a lot on air conditioning. And of course motorbikes are more economical to get around than cars. Keeping your money in your home country can be a smart option, however expect up to a month for a deposit check to be cleared through the local bank. Finally, if you want to include grocery items which are not basics, then you will need to budget trips to CDO.

Did they have Durian on Camiguin Island? You mentioned that high speed internet was a challenge, was that in the hotel or in any house there? I.E. in general is high speed, reliable internet service an issue to obtain there?
Besides being an Island how does this compare to the suburbs of Davao?

    • @VagabondAwake
      @VagabondAwake  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey RawHebrewRemnant, thanks for the great question. If strong consistent Internet is a requirement for you, this place may not be right. Without knowing what bandwidth you need it is hard for me to give advice. So, have the potential landlord do a ATT Speed Test (www.att.com/support/speedtest/) before you book. Or just get to the island a few days early so you can check bandwidth at a few places before deciding where to stay. Thanks for commenting. TH-cam shows our videos to more people when they get more comments. So your comment is like you are giving us a pay raise. So, thank you! Dan

Thanks for sharing. I agree with some additional thoughts. You should never buy real estate in a foreign country that you have not lived in for at least one year. Rent a furnished place and wait 18 to 24 months before deciding if you want to live there forever. If you buy in the first 6 months and then decided to leave, you may not have the same liquidity as you would in the USA--it may take longer to sell. Thanks for commenting. Dan

@@VagabondAwakeExactly, not me, I hate Canada like you wouldnt believe, I was born here and recently realized that I have been used and taken advantage of my entire life, by governments who only cater to the public service , I will retire to poverty if I stay here.

      Hey Chris,
If $600 is all your going to receive in retirement, its do-able. Get away from the big cities, they are expensive.
If your single, find a "significant other" that has a good job there. it will help. if you get married, use 13A visa. it the cheapest to do.
also search here a youtube, "Charles Schwab debit card." You will SAVE a lot of money here.
I am diabetic, I can get my medications there, cheaper then here in the US. Go figure right?
You can also buy health insurance there, and it cheap. Medical is cheap....BUT I will say,,,If you use the hospital/
doctors, Office visits, you MUST pay BEFORE you leave. just the way it is there.
My wife (Filipina) and I will be moving there this time next year when I retire.
I plan on buying some machine shop equipment and making custom parts for motorcycle there.
Not that I need an income there, I enjoy building/making things. Search for way to make $ there.
If you have skills, use them.
If I can help more , please let me know.
