I traveled to the chocolate hills of Bohol and went diving in Panglao in 1993....very few tourists back then. My first of many trips to the Philippines. Your videos bring back memories, and provide very useful information for travelers, expats and potential retirees.

@@JohnRogers-fd9hb Try Anda, Bohol. The beach is as nice as Panglao or better. Cost of living is cheaper. I met an old French guy there in his 60s and is living his life. He doesn't want to go back to France anymore.

i lived in sagay, negros occidental, for a year, the beach was awesome, met only one caucasian, no mall like sm but it had a big grocery store, no restaurant with ac but in my apt i had ac and cable tv, my rent for a 2 bedroom 1 bath was 4,000 pesos and with 2 guard dogs i felt really safe. eating out was very cheap and the people seemed friendlier. my mode of transport was a motorbike and a hundred peso gas was good for 3 days.

Panglao is very expensive by Philippine standards.All the prices of food and drinks etc. are like "tourist prices". I felt sorry for the locals who lives there.
That's what I'm afraid of in the future. The locals will have to pay more because of the area being more for tourists nowadays.

Enjoy your channel. Thank you. Hey quick comment on your scooter habit. Your riding around at 40mph with your wife on the back of the scooter. One dog running out, a bit of gravel, or a careless car, and you are now sliding on the ground. Surely you know how injured you will be at the end of the slide. Sandals, shorts, no gloves, shorts, and you both will most likely be severely injured. That little half helmet doesn’t protect your face and that won’t be pretty after the crash. So before you ride again, do a google search and see what bodies look like after scooter crashes. At least gear up your wife for her safety. Full faced helmet, gloves, boots over the ankles, mesh jacket, and Kevlar jeans would be smart. Decide which part of your body you don’t need, and skimp there. I’ve been riding motorcycles for 45 years, and have crashed once. It’s only a matter of time, but you are going to crash. Scooters are motorcycles....... be safe and take care.

We had to leave the Philippines when my mother got sick in the USA. We would still be there otherwise. As soon as it opens we will go finish our tour there. :-) All of Asia has had lower sickness and death because they take their medical advice from doctors instead of politicians. You will be much safer there once they open. than most places in the world.

I am not sure. Does anybody else know? But since creating this video, I am of the opinion that you should not get a retirement Visa in the Philippines. That is what all the expats I meet here are suggesting. Don't bother with depositing money or any of that. Free first 30 days (for Americans, Canadians, etc), then just extend every 6 months after that for about $40 per month. I know that conflicts with what you read online but that is what happens on the ground here with immigration.
Can you move in that area or somewhere else for around $600 a month? Simple life for two?

Almost 1k, multiply that by just say 50p that's almost 50k pesos unless you spend 2k everyday then yes you can live $960.00 definitely in the province but not in manila or the cities.
