    There is one more method I've used with success. After cutting your planks to length and laying 10 of them top to bottom as you do with the Sharpie, I glue black construction paper to the edges and on only one end as well. When dry, I run my blade between each pair of planks to cut the paper to conform to each edge. Once laid on the false deck, I scrape the deck rather than sand it. That way, the deck is kept clean and the caulking is uniform.

      Have you ever put a sealer and a varnish on the deck afterwards? Did it danage the caulking?

    Excellent! I just got schooled! Great advice and method. Thread is the best because it resembles the real thing. I geuss you could use brown thread for old bleached look. Not cotton!! Great advice. Cheers!

    Here is a tip for you, instead of using the oil pastels or marker to get the tar gap is to dye your glue. It works great and gives an even more realistic look and not only that it is a lot less messy and unlike the pastel it drys and does not come back to haunt you. I favor using an oil paint to dye my glue. It also works to eliminate the yellowing of pva glue since it has a permanent color.

      Sounds like a good Idea , but how do you handle oozing Glue ? Will it not difficult to remove Fingerprints and excess Glue on the Planks ?Thank you

    Great video and thank you for these tips. I will try the thread technique. One question please, how do you simulate the nails in the deck planking or do you leave it out.

      Thank you and I am glad that you give it a Try . I don't do Nail Markings since they are so tiny in the correct Scale. On my San Juan Nepomuceno I imitated it once with Toothpicks but I never will do it again since it's sooooo time consuming . My Opinion : don't make any Nail Marks it will look unnatural .

    Awesome tips sir! May I know what kind of wood planking you recommend?I was thinking birchwood veneer is suitable?

    • @davaoshipmodeller
      @davaoshipmodeller  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you . Well that Question is not easy to answer . In my Opinion the Veneer has to fit to the overall Style and Color of the Model it should be not too dark or too light and it should have a fine grain . I can 't give any general advise what Wood to use, sorry.

    I know how to cut a bulkhead with plywood but how do you get structural integrity when cutting frames?
    I presume you need to glue 1 or more layers to prevent splitting?
    Hope this is clearer
    Ed

    • @davaoshipmodeller
      @davaoshipmodeller  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Ed and sorry but English is not the Language I grow up with LOL . The Frames becomes rigid in combination with the false Keel and false Deck , some Ships ( Plans ) provide additional horizontal Frames .

    • @davaoshipmodeller

      Not sure what exactly you mean by this ? Do you want to make a scratch Build ? In that Case you need Plans they include also drawings for the Frames . If you need further Assistance , don't be shy to contact me . Thanks
