Harry Houdini Models I have the Caldercraft HMS Snake so watching you build will help me a lot mate. and I have ordered 50 of these clips to hold the planks in place you really are a 😇 lol
@@HarryHoudiniModels .. planking is one of those things , I can either watch others plank , or have a go myself . Its more fun if you can involve others .
Heya, really enjoying this channel so far! I have this same kit and i am at this same point, fist planking. You mention that the previous owner mistakenly bowed the bow section of the upper deck. Actually i believe it is supposed to be as mine is as well. Those first few bow frames are bowed at the top. Wasn't easy attaching that deck 😂 Anyways, many thanks, this channel is really helping with my build, cheers!
You may be right... my further research to correct the shape of the hull shows there are a couple of extra bulwark planks at the bow to give it an upswept peak. This I believe will solve many issues and will be included in a future video. Right now I am remaking the window frames at the stern using thin pieces of wood. Looks much better than the drawn on acetate.
@@HarryHoudiniModels dang im all out of sealing wax o well you may have a long wait for your kit after all we are still in stage 4 lock down down here in Mexico or is it 1940's Germany i carn't tell these days
Thanks Brian. At the start of the next video, Part 4, I show how to make those plank holding clips from basic stationary clips that you can buy at most Newsagents or Office Supply shops.
My electric plank bender came with a wooden profile, in that profile is a sharp bend and a soft bend. Just lay the plank across it and press down into the curve with the bender.
The bit matches the pins I was using for the first layer. So would have been 1mm diameter. For the second layer, where the thin planks had no holes, the holding blocks have 0.5mm nails, so the drill bit is 0.5mm. Just match to your pins or nails.
It was in the warm water for as long as it took for me to pin the previous plank. As soon as I remove a wet plank to bend and pin, I also put a new one in the water. That way as I finish attaching one plank, there is already another wet plank ready to go.
Love the old Bounty , it’s a beautiful boat . Had my eye on building one for a while , maybe in the near future
It is an endearing old tub
You make it look so easy!
It’s all done with smoke and mirrors!
Very interesting Harry. Never seen anyone make it look so easy. Great idea with the tooth picks.
Helps pick the curry out from between my teeth too
Great video Harry. The electric plank bender worked a real treat.
Yes it does! Was a surprise the first time I tried it.
This technique saved me, absolutely the best I’ve tried. THANK YOU!!!
Glad it helped!
Hope all is well with you. Looking great Harry thanks for sharing... Now just finished the 2nd planking, say hi to Bask :-)
Bask waves and asks for fish.
Really enjoyed that Harry , mystery no more. Cheers
Thanks Tom... it’s just a technique like any other... wait until next time and we start tapering planks.
Harry a lovely how to0’ and I’m looking forward to the next stage. If you get it wrong you’ll have to walk the plank lol
Ooops better get it right then me hearty!

She’s looking good there HH! Yes sir, mighty fine mate! KUTGW and stay safe! 👍👍🤘✌🏻
Thanks matey
Harry Houdini Models - Right on matey, no problem!
Really enjoyed this episode Harry , nice one marra ! Regards Gav.
Glad you enjoyed it. I have made more about planking and will continue the series until the hull is double planked.
Think I’ll add aluminium bush to the end of my soldering iron, I’ve got 3 so I can leave it attached.
Problem sorted. Really is a great tool for bending planks.
Decks do have a crown to them for water shedding but yeah, bit much on this Bounty. Nice work!
Thanks Brandon
lookin shipshape H
oh i forgot to ask you Harry did you want that WNW kit gift wrapped or just in plain brown paper with string haha
I am a string and sealing wax guy

Ear wax will do as an affordable substitute... just chew it smooth first.
@@HarryHoudiniModels i dont have enough ear wax H unless you can send me some
Excellent, where can I get some of those clips from? They look really useful!

Assuming those bends match the profile of your ships hull of course.
Hello! I can not find the video you show how to make those black clips, can you please share a link?
Hi Sam. If you go to Part 4 of my Constructo Bounty series at 03:17 is where I show how to make the clips.

Harry, you showed how to modify those clips "in a previous video". Which one?
I thought it was the previous Bounty video, but actually it’s at 24 mins into the second Marina Balcony video th-cam.com/video/MSDw1hrHHeI/w-d-xo.html
What is the drill bit you used in mm please ?
The bit matches the pins I was using for the first layer. So would have been 1mm diameter. For the second layer, where the thin planks had no holes, the holding blocks have 0.5mm nails, so the drill bit is 0.5mm. Just match to your pins or nails.
@@HarryHoudiniModels Thank you soo much appreciated 👍
Nice work though ❤️❤️
Did you add anything to the water?
Just the planks
@@HarryHoudiniModels Cool. How long do you soak each plank?

Hmmm so you need a hammer to put a wood sailing model ship together who would have thunk it.
You can try to push the pins in by hand if your pain threshold is high enough. Requires less brains. Give it a go
