    Glad to see you back on some radio videos (although nothing wrong with the T-Bird videos)!
    Thanks for the Bonnie and Clyde history lesson. Now you can list the finished radio on eBay for $10,000 opening bid due to its history...

      Only $10,000? Hardly worth the effort to list it. 😏

      "Buzzline" is reserved for radios made from scratch. This jobbie doesn't remotely qualify.

    I'd almost forgot about the airline! I've been so wrapped up in the Thunderbird resto. By the way.. you'd better stock up on that Jasco Paint Stripper.. the EPA Banned Methylene chloride based strippers from consumer sales back in march. come November, it will disappear off the shelves.

      Bret,
      It's already gone from Lowe's shelves. Found out this morning. Now I know why. So I'm back to using Kwik-Strip. Bummer!

      Sam,
      It'll be just a little gluing, staining and finishing. More bother than anything else. The radio itself was the bugger. At least it's ready to go, but I'll have to go back through the series to see what I did. I can't remember. 😁

      There's no telling what's been put on that cabinet over the years. Maybe moonshine, eh? 😛
      Looks like we'll be good to go with the flood problem in these parts, but we apparently have 7 more days of rain directly ahead, so who knows for sure. Ugh!

    You know John, back in the days of Bonnie and Clyde, folks would whip up their own concoctions for varnishes, lacquers, enamels and you name it instead of buying store brands so who knows what that stuff is on the finish.
    What did Johnny Cash ask in his song, " how high's the water mama?" Hang in there pal.

    John,
    Nice stripping/glueing job, good buddy! I have it on good authority that Bonnie and Clyde also put a heavy coat of wax on the upper part of the radio as a way to make up for the cigarette burn to the owner. :-) lol
    I hope you're still high and dry and safe.
    Have you been watching Plane Savers? Getting the DC-3 up and together and flying by June 6th has been a huge task, but it's going to happen! Amazing what they've been able to accomplish in about 40 days or so.

      Thanks, Tom, it's appreciated. You know, that B&C duo were real trouble makers, even now 85-years later.🙄 Sorry, I haven't watched Plane Savers. I'm sorta hamstrung by the GBs we have available for internet use, so we're careful about what we watch and how long the vids are. But at least this ISP doesn't go offline every three days. Man, we hated Media3South doing that all the time.

  • @Rebel9668

    Hey John, I've been stripping and refinishing up here as well, lol. Just finished an old dresser for my Ma that someone had painted white years ago. I like a stripper called ZAR myself. If you want it stripped fast, that zar claims it will work in 5 minutes but do wear some rubber gloves. I ran out and the local store has it but they only have it by the gallon and it's $40 a gallon, lol. So I just went back to Citris Strip for the rest of it. I also like the citris, but it's definitely not for those in a hurry, lol. The good thing about it is that it doesn't burn if you get it on ya and you can apply it and let it sit for up to 24 hours before it will dry out. Glad to see you back on the airline :) It's looking good so far.

    • @joernone
      @joernone  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you told me the ins and outs of Citris Strip. I almost bought that at Lowe's the other day, but opted for the Kwik-Strip instead. I'm not happy about the Jasco stripper not being sold anymore. That stuff was great. If something works the government will find a way to keep it from the public.
      Regards,
      John

    • @Rebel9668
      @Rebel9668 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joernone The citris strip works well, but it is quite a bit slower. I find that if I apply a thick coat of it and let it sit at least 5 hours or overnight that is when it works best, but I'm usually stripping stuff that has multiple layers of paint and or varnish/lacquer. I like to put it on in the cool of a late evening and then scrape it off the next morning before it gets hot outside.

    More likely story is this radio was pristine and shiny and looked new for a decade or more as it was owned by people that treated it like fine furniture. But because these things were so well made it was still in use in the 60s and 70s by then no one cared about a 30 year old radio they figured was soon going to be in a junk yard so they cared nothing for it resting cigs and drink glasses. PLEASE don't preserve they neglected part of its history - instead restore it to its first 10 years as a pristine beauty. Strip (if its lacquer just use acetone or lacquer thinner) , then sand, fill with wood grain, put on 10 or 15 coats of new lacquer and then wet sand.
