A truly beautiful piece. I've seen these old radios converted into bluetooth speakers and the like, but this is the first bar cabinet I've seen made from one.

I'm an Electronics Technician retired after 30 years in the field. One of my customers had 2 nine inch round RCA TV'S. He wanted me to combine the two to make a working TV. That's an era when capacitors were wrapped in wax paper. I've visited homes where the old console TV's were converted into liquor cabinets hidden behind the speakers. Prohibition era or just not wanting your guests to know that you had alcohol. That was an age of craftsmanship when the electronics matched your furniture. Great project.
What a great story, and a very cool twist on that. My wife collects old radios, and I may have to requisition one for this exact purpose. Well done, and I hope the radio stays in the family for another 90 years!
Also, moreso on thos than your other videos, I loved the editing on this video. Please, keep up the good work! I always look forward to your new videos 🙂
Awesome video man. That’s what woodworking is all about, having a connection to a piece and bringing joy to people with it. That bubbly happiness you had at the end is gold, really beautiful work.
Inspirational Jon. I'm just starting to explore the fascinating world of woodworking, this idea of not just restoring a gorgeous vintage piece, but adapting it to something that will be used, is brilliant. Time to start trawling the ebay listings, creating something similar to this is now one of my longer term goals to work towards. congrats on a wonderful piece.
I've got my grandpa's old record player. It's the old hinge top. He passed a few months back, and that piece of furniture has been in his house since he built it 72 years ago. I was reluctant to restore it. But this has given me the drive to jump on it. The really cool part is it still works! They don't make them like that anymore.
What a gorgeous old cabinet, Jonathan - beautifully restored, with the brilliant embellishment of a hidden bar (I LOVE the way the bar rises up on the TV lifter - super cool). I can see why this is by far your favourite project ever. Thank you for sharing
@@katzmosestools You're more than welcome! Oh, and I forgot to mention: I really like the way you've woven black-and-white WWII footage into your video; adding the historical background gives it a unique dimension (i.e. you almost never get that kind of contextualisation in TH-cam vids).
