Product review of toilet training aid for cats. This is an independent reviews. I purchased the product and documented the results with no compensation or consideration. Product available at www.citikitty.com
After 4 years its still working like a charm. I never have to buy litter. I never* have to scoop waste. All I have to do is come home and flush the toilet. If I’m gone for more than a single overnight, 36 hours or more, she will make solid waste on the carpet next to the toilet, and I do have to scoop that. I suspect there are two reasons for this. One, the scent of the toilet changes after it gets more than a few deposits, and she may be sensitive about where she goes, based on how it smells. Or Two, she’s mad at me for leaving her alone for too long. Or both. Overall I’m really happy I made this change and I recommend it to anyone who’s willing to drop the cash to buy the Citi Kitty. I have saved enough money in the last four years buy not buying cat litter that I could have bought the Citi Kitty system seven or eight times over.
Hi and thanks for posting this perfect tutorial. You'd think Citikitty would have a tutorial as helpful as this! Anyway, I was curious how you cleaned the Citikitty part to feel confident enough putting it on your table and cutting it. I was thinking maybe cleaning it in the tub? Again, thanks for this. It was super helpful and I think I'll give this a try.
Adopted two brothers (both 6 months old) from the humane society and immediately began them on the Citikitty system. They began using it right away with no issues even though they used a regular litter box at the shelter. I am getting ready to cut my second hole and so far they still don't have an issue using it. Really looking forward to a life free of litter dust in the air, tracked around the house, stuck to their paws, getting in the water dish (one of them loves to stand in the water bowl) etc.
Update: We are now on stage 3. Both my cats had to get through that curiosity stage when the first hole was cut (they wanted to bat at the water and play with the wheat litter as it fell into the toilet) and then again when the second hole was cut. Midnight took to it quickly and never had an issue. Grizzly had a couple weeks of setbacks when we cut the second hole. He wanted to go on the tile instead of going in the toilet. He also once went on the dog bed so I cleaned and removed that from his view. I kept all doors closed to other rooms. I watched him closely each day and knew when he typically needed to go to the bathroom. If he looked like he was going to go on the tile I would put him on the toilet seat and praise him after he went. This was a slow process but finally he started to go on the toilet and nowhere else and I didn't have to watch him anymore. This type of training takes two things, love and patience!! It's worth it though and for me is such a better option than a litter box! Will update when we have moved further along.
Free Scotland Thank you for your comments on this. Your words give me the encouragement I need as I am starting mine on City Kitty again. Tried it a little over a week ago and after three days with only one pile of solid waste I felt they were stressed so I put the litter box back in the bathroom. Today I removed the litter box and have the City Kitty on the floor and will monitor them. Thanks again.
Well done! I’m week 2 with the first hole for my Maine Coon kitten. He’s doing great so far, no accident. Only small issue I’m having is he scrapes all the litter into the toilet before he does his jobs & then gets cat pee on his feet as no litter. Lucky I’m there with him to wipe his paws which he doesn’t mind.
Thank you for making this video! My cats are both doing #2 on the floor. I've been doing this for weeks (very stressed out) and just found your video, so I'm now moving the Citi Kitty to floor like you showed. I'm praying my babies can get this down like yours did. Wish us luck!
+Kärt Kase no, so far still having same problem. Moved it to the floor for a week then back to toilet and they are still pooping on floor. I'm still trying, I don't want to give up yet.
David, let me first say you give really good instruction. You should consider making instructional videos more often. I would really love to implement this in my home however with 4 kitties I imagine it is way more of a challenge than I am even aware of at this moment. Your Torbie is a pretty kitty using her sitty kitty.
Here is a tip I got from a training book by Paul Kunkel. Put the litter box beside the toilet and gradually raise it using magazines or better yet telephone books. Do this slowly so the kitty doesn't even notice. Make sure the whole thing is stable, it takes about a week. Once your the box is level with the toilet, put the citi kitty tray on the toilet & continue on. She will by that time be accustomed to jumping up to go potty. With cats...one ity bity step at a time is best.
Good video! I'm training my second cat at the moment. There is nothing better than a toilet trained cat. It requires patience, but it is so worth it in the end.
One of my cat's is taking perfectly to training; where as the other faces the toilet backwards and with his front paws in the litter and his back paws on the toilet seat and urinates directly on the ground. I have tried gently training him to sit properly and put his front paws on the seat, but now my sweet natured cat is hissing at me. Any suggestions? I don't want to give up!
What happens if your out the house for 12 hours and the cat goes poop say 3-4 times for arguments sake. Wouldn’t it bother the cat that there is an excess, especially if stuck on side of pan. Would it choose to go on the floor, is there a poo limit to this method? I suppose getting them to aim into the water is key which should be learnt from early stages. Just trying to foresee every eventuality before I move on this.
Great questions. I am routinely out of the house for 12 to 18 hours, and there is almost never more than 1 poo in the toilet. It should be noted that I live in a one-cat home, and have a strict feeding routine of one meal per day. My thoughts are that even if this was not the case, and there were mutiple deposits of solid waste, a cat wouldnt be bothered by this any more than it would by multiple deposits in a traditional litter box. Consider it this way: IF you spend $50 on a Citi Kitty it could save you hundreds of dollars on litter over the lifetime of your cat. OR you could spend $50 on a Citi Kitty to find out it wont work for you. Consider the $50 spent on the opportunity to find out, not on the Citi Kitty itself. Best of luck. D--
i tried the litter quiter its a failer as my cat would use it yes but soon as i moved to the 2nd stage she would pee in it only and poop elsewhere so im going to try this product instead
Great idea! So here we go.....After 4 years its still working like a charm. I never have to buy litter. I never* have to scoop waste. All I have to do is come home and flush the toilet. Hi! I'm trying to train my cat to do this and she's been great at using the city kitty trainer. My only issue is that instead of perching on the toilet seat, she awkwardly has all four paws in the litter ring and sometimes falls in (we're on the last ring). Do you have any tips on correcting her form?
My advice would be to stay on this step 2 or 3 times longer than the rest. Over that time, use less and less litter in the ring until you’re using none at all. Then stay with that, until she’s consistently using the seat, and not falling in. Stay with it and good luck. 👍🏼
Wow! Great video. I appreciate it. I have a question. I just got a cat and although he will be mostly inside, he will be outside when we are at work (when I say outside I mean my Lanai. Enclosed big area, safe). My question is. Would it be ok to put a litter box there and still do the toilet training for when we are home? Or would that confuse the cat?
Eileen Stebbins .... I think every cat is different. If you buy the city kitty product or one like it, and you realize that your cat won’t use it because he always wants to go outside to do his business, then I would guess that you may have wasted your money. In my case, my cat had to be taught pretty sternly, that there is no litter box option.
We are going to ray this. A few years back we adopted a cat that could use the potty and it was so nice. We have a 2 month old kitten and we are hoping that he will catch on..What is the percent of success?
You certainly can! As long as your kitten is able to get up onto the toilet, it should work just fine. Maybe start with the litter pan on the floor near the toilet, and as you kitten gets taller, then move it onto the toilet.
Joyce Prior....Follow normal litter training procedures. Just remember to be patient. You can’t show any negative emotions surrounding this training. POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT is the key to lasting success. Lots of praise and rewards for doing it right. Good luck.
Lynn Pennington it should work the same as a single cat household. The only difference I could imagine is that you have to slow down the pace of training to the speed of the slowest learner of your cats. Also, you may have to do this with every toilet in the house, not just one. Let us know if you find success.
Jean Jones....It sure could. Just remember, the longer your cat had been used to a litter box, the more patient you’ll have to be when introducing a new behavior.
Rose Natale....I let each step take one week. Sometimes I had to back up a step and do it for a second week. The key is to only change one thing at a time, and let your cat get used to it before you change the next thing. Good luck.
How great is that!! Thanks so much for your simple steps of training. One of my 2 cats is going potty 1 & 2 on my couch even after neutering. So on to the next step because washing my couch and all the pillows is surely getting old. :) this can be done for multiple cats as well?
I've read for some that the tray in too flimsy and shifts under kitty's weight. Did you find that to be true. Also, is that an anniversary toilet plunger cover? LOL
taterbug83 The strength of the tray was just fine for my cat of average weight. If you had a really heavy hitter (20 lbs plus), then it might be an issue.
We've been having a bad problem with our cats pooping on the floor almost every day. we've tried pretty much everything and now this but they still haven't used it. any advice?
Kate Henry It could one of several things going wrong. Start over if you have to. Go back to what works, and take small steps from there. Switch out the litter in a different way maybe. Mix the old and new litter to make the transition more gradual. The key here is to start at the last place you had success and take small steps forward from there. If you need more help let me know and we can email back and forth.
We are trying to teach our cat to use toilet, but he refuses to use flushable cat litter. He doesn't poop into his own cat's toilet with this organic litter. We tried several brands and materials :( The only litter he uses the right way is the clumping one. We don't want to use that one for toilet training as it's not flushable. If he doesn't like the litter, he poops on the floor right in front of the cats toilet. Do you have any advice?
Drews Beauty Start over with his regualr litter and the litter box. Use that for a week. For the second week, add some of the flushable litter to what he's already using. Make it 10% Flushable, and 90% clumping. Do that for a week. The trick is to slowly introduce any changes, to make sure your cat is comfortable. Increase the ratio each week and when the litter box is 100% flushable litter, then introduce the toilet to the program. Small changes, over long time periods should work well for you. Good luck. Don't give up.
Connie Stary before I removed the litter box, I switched to the new flushable litter for about a week. That way she associates the smell of the new litter with the urge to go. The. Swap out the litter box for the citi kitty tray, but still keep it in the floor for a week. Then move it up to the toilet. Good luck.
David Pyro I tried training my two cats but after three days and neither one of them pooping so I stopped. I don't want my babies stressed out. I may try again but I won't be using this system. There isn't enough litter in this system so I am going to get an aluminum roasting pan and try that.
Hey, did you try this with your two cats? I have two I will be getting soon and would like to know how it worked :) I plan to dedicate one toilet for the both of them, and a separate one for us. Just curious - thanks!!!
Katharina H. Try adding less cat nip. In some cats it only makes them sleepy instead of curious. You may also consider leaving a VERY small amount of solid waste in the litter to remind them it's for business, not for nap time. Good luck.
Katharina H You have to totally commit to the city kitty and get rid of the litter box all together. If your cat has too may options for a place to poo, you won't get the result you're looking for. Be patient, stay with it. You'll get there.
Katharina H They can't hold it in forever. Remove the old box and have faith that they'll know what to do. They'll either go in the citi kitty or not but the old litter box should no longer be an option. You can move forward from there.
Love the video! Very helpful! I have three cats, do you think this is something I could teach them all? Also, one of our cats is a kitten. How old does the cat have to be? One funny comment, love how you wear the same shirt the whole time lol.
Same shirt for continuity. Thank you for noticing. I would say that as long as your kitten is capable of getting up to the level of the toilet seat, it should be fine. This has been done with multiple cats but not by me, I only have one. The prevalent advice for multiples is to only progress at the speed of your slowest cat. So it may take quite a while longer than what I've shown here, but the method is the same. Take your time. Be patient. Thanks for watching and good luck.
Haha she pooped on your bed 😂😂😂 oh well she made it clear what she thought of this 🤣 thanks so much for the video! Q:where there was set back did you put the training seat back? Thanks 👌
Whenever there was a setback, I always went back one step, and spent twice as long there. Baby steps are the key. Building a new habit doesn’t happen overnight.
Since kitty is using your toilet too, you obviously have to clean and disinfect that toilet every time you wanna use it. Using a regular cat litter box seems so much less work than this.
Cleaning schedule hasn't changed. Still clean once a week. Since the cat doesn't walk thru her own litter anymore, the cleanliness of her feet is not nearly as big a concern as it used to be. She doesn't get the toilet seat any dirtier than my kids do.
I agree! I just got an inside cat and she keeps stepping in her own poop...ugh. I have to take her and wash her feet every time she poops...and still scoop poop!!! lol
what about with savannah cats. They are known to be a type of cat that likes water. Would they be inclined to play with the toilet water after they used it or will the think of it as a litterbox entirely and even if it has water don't mess with it.
Can't wait to buy Citi Kitty cuz I spend about $18 a month on cat litter 🙄 It's so annoying especially when your on a budget, plus cat food, and my cat only can eat canned food, I love him very much but I, trying to save money.
Deepa Lall poor cat?????? Ur nuts yes declawing is cruel but this is really beneficial think about aging cat who r getting too old to be cleaning litter boxes think about low income cat income who r unable to afford all this cat litter also do u think guests really like see litter boxes????????
dats wat i was gona say,,, DONT REMOVE OLD LITER box/placement JUST YET,, and when you not at home leave her in bathroom, with food and water bole,, Make the adjustment tO NEW LITTER,, THEN remove most useless pieces of of your old liter box containers as much as you can,,slowly? you know ur cat best,,, then change it for the new design weirdo plastic of citi litter SAME EXACT OLD SPOT,, THEN CLOSER to toilet, AND THEN FINALLY on toilet,, not like your in a hurry,, you got a whole bag of NICE IDEA food WHEAT to get rid of as litter,, even with old system youd be happier with those cause youd be able to put it all in toilet dam nice,, and if too complicated try putting a bac with holes into the bath pee goes trough shit stays in all you do is transfer,, but i think ill buy cittikitty its fkin amazing,, everyone would luv dis sht around me even if i wouldnt use
I think this is very selfish to do that. Cat is enjoying scratching real soil or litter . With this method, you are disturbing his natural instinct. What is next? taking off definitely his claw??? This is animal cruelty.
ttubededentifrice declawing yes that’s cruelty but what’s wrong with this think about this think about low income cat owners who luv their cats Soo much but r starting to be unable to afford all the cat litter also think about aging/disabled cat owners who r physically unable to clean up all the litter also I think litter boxes r one of the primary reasons why cat haters appear to drastically outnumber dog haters and I think guests hate the litter box smell this is not cruelty
my kitty is stuck....I've removed the second hole now and he doesn't like to poop there anymore. He goes on the floor beside the toilet. Any tips?? Should I remove the next hole and see if that helps??
Tracey Christiansen ....You may have to go back a step. Use the insert to decrease the size of the hole, and keep him on that step for a long time. Use your best judgment on when to remove the insert, and move forward again. Hope that helps.

Good luck. Don't give up.
thanks :) will try it this way
I don't have a cat. But if I did. This video would be greatly helpful. Thank you for taking your time to create this tutorial. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much for the great video. I will buy it and hope my cat would be as amazingly adaptive as yours :) .
if the cat moves to another house... Will it still be using the toilet?
oda jonassen I don't have any plans to move, but expect that if I did, I would have to repeat the training on a new toilet.
okey, thanks for replying :)
David Pyro
oda jonassen
David, 2 years later, is she still using the toilet? Thanks!!!
I haven't scooped litter in two years. She's still using the toilet every day. Totally worth it.
David Pyro Am I supposed to remove the litter box right away?
Connie Stary before I removed the litter box, I switched to the new flushable litter for about a week. That way she associates the smell of the new litter with the urge to go. The. Swap out the litter box for the citi kitty tray, but still keep it in the floor for a week. Then move it up to the toilet. Good luck.
David Pyro I tried training my two cats but after three days and neither one of them pooping so I stopped. I don't want my babies stressed out. I may try again but I won't be using this system. There isn't enough litter in this system so I am going to get an aluminum roasting pan and try that.
David Pyro After watching your video again I am going to try the City Kitty again.
is citi kitty use to small cats ?
Yes.
did anyone notice the plunger to the right?? wtf
Thank you I just bought it I’ll try . But I have two cats I hope it will work
Hey, did you try this with your two cats? I have two I will be getting soon and would like to know how it worked :) I plan to dedicate one toilet for the both of them, and a separate one for us. Just curious - thanks!!!
this video is by far the easiest and step by step i watched that os helpful
Awesome review! quite helpful! thank you so much!
Thank you so much for doing this video!
One of my cats uses it, the other just lies on it, any tips?
Katharina H. Try adding less cat nip. In some cats it only makes them sleepy instead of curious. You may also consider leaving a VERY small amount of solid waste in the litter to remind them it's for business, not for nap time. Good luck.
Katharina H You have to totally commit to the city kitty and get rid of the litter box all together. If your cat has too may options for a place to poo, you won't get the result you're looking for. Be patient, stay with it. You'll get there.
David Pyro if I remove the litter box, they just hold it in.
Katharina H They can't hold it in forever. Remove the old box and have faith that they'll know what to do. They'll either go in the citi kitty or not but the old litter box should no longer be an option. You can move forward from there.
They did it!!
Thank you
I love you and Charlie.
Thanks, I think I will try it.
how cool did it with my kitty
Great job! I'm going to get the Citi Kiti
oh okay I know
Love the video!
Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing!
I'm going to try it with my 3 cats ,,,,,,,,,,,,thanks
I don't think that she like her new bathdroom
Yeah... I stick with the litter
Queen Bee I won’t waste of time and money
Haha she pooped on your bed 😂😂😂 oh well she made it clear what she thought of this 🤣 thanks so much for the video! Q:where there was set back did you put the training seat back? Thanks 👌
Whenever there was a setback, I always went back one step, and spent twice as long there. Baby steps are the key. Building a new habit doesn’t happen overnight.
Thanks very much for the video!
I have to take her and wash her feet every time she poops...and still scoop poop!!! lol
Plus I'm not too worried about cat germs. I don't clean my toilet anyways.
You'll be saving big money on kitty litter.
vielen vielen Dank ein tolles Video wir machen das jetzt auch mit unseren Katzen
Thanks for sharing.
Do you have a wedding gift plunger?!? Who on earth gave you that???
Paige Powers it was from the maid of honor.
Mine costed like 6$ where I am.
I put catnip on it...and he started eating the litter to get the catnip....
I need to do this thank for dowing this video from rihanna.
what about with savannah cats. They are known to be a type of cat that likes water. Would they be inclined to play with the toilet water after they used it or will the think of it as a litterbox entirely and even if it has water don't mess with it.
Pretty Kitty
I love cats having **** (sh**)
Can't wait to buy Citi Kitty cuz I spend about $18 a month on cat litter 🙄 It's so annoying especially when your on a budget, plus cat food, and my cat only can eat canned food, I love him very much but I, trying to save money.
maravilloso , un gato haciendo chorizos
great
great sassy cat
Found it here for cheap! bestpetbuys.com/collections/cats/products/kitty-potty-trainer
Poor cat
Deepa Lall poor cat?????? Ur nuts yes declawing is cruel but this is really beneficial think about aging cat who r getting too old to be cleaning litter boxes think about low income cat income who r unable to afford all this cat litter also do u think guests really like see litter boxes????????
awesome!
Was expecting Scott Manleys voice .....
Got........disappointed
wow
dats wat i was gona say,,, DONT REMOVE OLD LITER box/placement JUST YET,, and when you not at home leave her in bathroom, with food and water bole,, Make the adjustment tO NEW LITTER,, THEN remove most useless pieces of of your old liter box containers as much as you can,,slowly? you know ur cat best,,, then change it for the new design weirdo plastic of citi litter SAME EXACT OLD SPOT,, THEN CLOSER to toilet, AND THEN FINALLY on toilet,, not like your in a hurry,, you got a whole bag of NICE IDEA food WHEAT to get rid of as litter,, even with old system youd be happier with those cause youd be able to put it all in toilet dam nice,, and if too complicated
try putting a bac with holes into the bath pee goes trough shit stays in all you do is transfer,, but i think ill buy cittikitty its fkin amazing,, everyone would luv dis sht around me even if i wouldnt use
but daamm might mean i have to rebuy fkin litter to make dis transition,,, i already had got rid of it hmm
Meow!!
Video was fine but it would have been nice to actually see the cat being successful on the toilet?
You obviously did not watch the entire video.
Ww
Well, watch these two then: th-cam.com/video/eJXVs9kbnho/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/l33RSm1n-lE/w-d-xo.html
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱cooooooooooll
soooooo coooooooooooooooool
my kitty is stuck....I've removed the second hole now and he doesn't like to poop there anymore.
@@DavidPyro Thank you so much!! I will give it a try!
