Just did a remapping removing a stuck pixel on my X-T4. Your guide explained this phenomenon in a clear and concise manner. Your channel is hands down one of the best photo / Fuji sources on TH-cam and you're truly an amazing host. Thanks for doing this channel!
Test: 3:00 I can't stress enough how grateful I am of this channel. This video is the only I have that doesn't just tell you to do the pixel mapping but actually shows HOW to test it. Thanks from a complete newbie 🙏
I have a 4yr old Fuji XH1 and I've recently noticed roughly ten silver dots on the sensor, I thought they were hot/dead pixels but what I didn't realise until yesterday is that they are actually dead sun spot pixels. I use Leica manual lenses and manual mode and unfortunately I've been using the camera to shoot reflective light on water to get bokeh on my images, the sun has been so bright through the lens it's left these dead pixels. It does state in your booklet when you buy your camera don't point the camera to the sun. So pal2tech I suppose this is a warning to those of you who have a Fuji X when your not using the camera protect the sensor by putting the lens cap back on after use.
Recently discovered your channel, and just want to say thank you for all you're doing. Absolutely enjoy the way you give information, and your passion is really contagious! I don't have the XT camera (X-Pro3 user here) but pretty much everything you teach works on my camera too! Thanks again :)
MY MAN WAYNE SZALINSKI WITH THE GREEN SCREEN !! HAHA NICE!! Awesome tips here Chris, agree I wish this worked in video too. Thank you for the F-Log video, wow I missed that evidently. So amped to watch it next!
Your intro’s always draw viewers in - nice, though this subject doesn’t lend itself to many. Had hot pixels myself, once - a sitz bath cleared em up nicely (couldn’t resist that one 😁.)
You're going in the right direction with your series here that explains the workings of buttons, dials and commands. Most of us will never be "experts" but we're keen to know how to do better. Suggestion - I haven't seen many, if any, good explanations of how best to use the Fujifilm apps for smartphones and PC's. Example: I should be using the phone app to trigger the shutter when on a tripod but starting it up and connecting just seems such a hassle ... can you make it easier??
I can think of a dozen other Fuji youtubers that would first want you to notice their new wallet, level of neglected genius and dental work before they got around to the topic. I don't mind some personality, (that's why Steady Crafting is such a hit), but leave the foot leprosy and longing for the Trotsky days at the office. You do a great job.
Thank you. As always very informative and novel. I actually was wondering if you would consider (or have already done) a video on the custom menu. I must confess that I have not paid any attention to those, but as I am looking at the 100s that has a dial with 4-5 of those I was thinking of try to learn them and see if they really work. One thing that really bugs me is that I often use a 2 or 10 second shutter delay only to have to re-set it up every time the camera goes to sleep.
Hello! I also encountered this problem with a red pixel. My camera is under warranty, should I send it in for repair? As you said in the video, maping function only masks and does not repair the pixel.
This video helped a bit thanks so much. I just got a GFX 100S and counted 98 dead pixels when viewing the image at 100% :( After using Pixel Mapping id say 70% of the dead pixels went away but new dead pixels started showing up. Is this normal for these large format sensors?
Thanks for this, Pal. Unfortunately the fix did not work for my X-T3, but fortunately it is small and towards the border of the frame for video which is what I use it for so cropping is an option as well as a mask. Even though it didn’t work for me - the video made it feel less like the end of the world. I’m broke and couldn’t afford another camera if I wanted one.
Hey! The LCD monitor of my X-T4 camera shows the presence of Stuck Pixel (red color). As per the remarks, it is limited to the LCD only, not transferring to the photo file or Viewfinder. Did you manage to solve it or find a solution? Worst of all is that my camera is new, less than 20 days old!
It’s a shame pixel mapping doesn’t work in video. Had a few gross hot pixels on my xt3 and really the only options are to deal with them in post or ship it off to Fuji for a re calibration. I shipped mine off and it came back perfect but still wish I could’ve just mapped em😕
@@vishal_trivedi luckily it was still under warranty so I didn’t have to pay anything. And as far as time I was really pretty impressed. It was really only being worked on for one day, the rest of the time was shipping and waiting my turn. Over all about 8 days from when it left my hands to when it was back on my porch 👍🐠
My XT3 has been repaired 4 times with stuck or death pixels. Now I know if I have a video project I cannot shoot with my Fuji, either if I have a long photo shooting. Finally I use my Fujifilm for small projects where I don't need to shoot too many pictures in short time or just for my trips. If we don't overheat the sensor just the pixels don't get burned out. I'm sorry to say Fujifilm is not for professionals. I love so much my XT3 and I bought many glasses for it and I feel so sad I cannot use it as my main camera because I cannot trust it. I'm still using my old D800 for most of my professional works, it is a camera 9 years old I have millions of shots and I never had a hot pixel on it. The Image quality of my D800 is way higher and even iso performance are quite similar. I just advice to people want to buy any Fujifilm, if you are occasional photographer or amateur photographer and you don't use video at all then those cameras can be for you but if you are a professional... I'm sorry to say I cannot recommend any Fujifilm APS-C to any professional, it is very painful because the Fuji cameras are just the most beautiful ones and the dials are quite convenient. Really sad to know Fujifilm have the most beautiful cameras but the less trustable ones.
Hi! 1:32 Will there be less chances for hot /stuck pixels to show up if i keep LENR turned off? or if I stay below iso 800?, i'm new to this stuff, explain please
It sucks that my point and shoot style camera also known as the FinePix Jz300 which is 6 years old now and was handed down to me by my father and it just started having the stuck pixle and this one's like alot on one area and it sucks cuz idk if it will affect my pictures or no when i finally export the photos from my card to my laptop
I would actually instead do some long exposures, as most sensors won't have enough time to heat up at 1/1000s or at high ISOs for brief periods of time (less than say 1 second). Most hot pixels will appear when exposures are longer and/or the ISO is higher (ie. more power being sent to the sensor) and combining these two would generate the most heat in many cases (ie. long exposure at high ISO so say 20-30 seconds at ISO 3200). I would take a bunch of photos (maybe a dozen or so) at different ISOs and shutter speeds (ranging from maybe 1/10s all the way down to 30 seconds, and vary the ISO). This will give you a good idea of how th sensor reacts to varying conditions. It takes a bit more time, but will provide a more complete set of images for you to gauge the scenarios where hot pixels are more prone to occur and how bad they are. This applies to any camra, not just Fuji's. I also disagree a bit about reviewing the out of camera JPEGs. The best way to view this is using a program that does NOT clone out stuck/hot pixels. Out of camera JPEGs may still show hot or stuck pixels IF they are bad enough, but generally some cameras will actually mask these out (or remove them) even if you have high ISO NR turned on, as part of the JPEG processing. I would say to ALWAYS use the RAW files as they will contain the most data obviously, being RAW.
Great and helpful, thanks. I have a question about a concern i have, not about that video but multi-exposure. I am able to compose a multi-exposure let's say 2 photos on the same picture but when it's time to see it in the viewer i see both individual photo not the mix of both... but if i go on my computer i see my composition. Is it normal that i cannot view the result in the viewfinder after i finish my composition ? Thanks.

How about my FUJIFILM X-A3? I cant find that menu on my camera, I have so many hot pixel (white & red dot color) after using long exposure. Please help
How many defective pixels are too many? I just did a real estate shoot with several bracketed shots with long exposures, and I counted about 20+ pixels that were misbehaving.
Thanks for the video, unfortunately it didn't take away the dead/stuck white pixel I have. The pixel mapping on the Z6 that I had took longer but the result was perfect. I wonder if Fuji has another way to map bad pixels in their after sales workshops?
The procedure to discover hot pixels didn't work for my case. Thanks !!!!!
So I noticed when in low light that I had a lot of white, blue, red pixels showing up so I did the pixel mapping. After that I tried your method on seeing dead pixels and found nothing. Does that mean those pixels are hot pixels or that the mapping did its work?
Indeed, when I load a raw picture in LR it automatically removes the dead, stuck/ hotpixel. I guess this is a default feature or something? I am happy with it because my Nikon cameras can not fix the problem by itself. You have to go to a Nikon service centre and pay 50 bucks for it.😕
with this year i switched to Fuji from Nikon. My 9 Years old D800 with 500k+ clicks dont have a single dead pixle ( checked in LR with deactivated single pixel removal..) Ordered an X-t4, the first one had 4 white stucked pixel in taround he center since day one so i refund it and got another one. Again 3 stucked white pixel. Now i have my third x-t4, this as well have 2 white stucked but only in the outer quarter. Pixel mapping didnt worked on one pixel. Am i just unlucky or is it normal with fuji? For the moment i just keep the cam couse its so damn much fun to use and i will use the warrenty within the first 2 years..
Is it normal that when I look at the second control photo and zoom in with the camera joystick that the photo looks like a night sky with dim stars all over the place?
The best solution is to fix these with processing in post. RAW image processing apps have a filter that allows setting a filter using numbers in a small pixel area, so this can be put into an action. If you log the camera that is used on each shot, it can be a permanent video filter, until new pixels show up. An averqge xt4 has 1 to 3. The pixels may be visible up to iso1250 and disappear above 1600. You can see them easily in video mode in manual focus with the high zoom by scanning the image in iso1250. Some manufactures actively look for hot and very nonlinear pixels and remove them, but this kills normal image parts such as stars. Dust removal tools are also too aggressive. The correct in-camera method is interpolation from nearby pixels.
I'm so disappointed. Every single Fujifilm camera I had (three X-S10's and an X-T3) had dead pixels. I kept sending it back and getting new ones but it just got worse. Fujifilm straight up IGNORED me when I complained for like the third time. The camera has so much to offer, if it actually works, which it doesn't, and fuji doesn't care. Rant over haha.
@@jaguarvisible1352 I had to use google translate for that lol. No, it wasn't solved. The only work around is to shoot EVERYTHING in 4K so that you don't notice the prominent dead pixel in the middle of the screen with my X-T3 in FHD. It's very disappointing....
Yeah, it's a workaround. But it's still disappointing that stuff like this happens and the brand just ignores you. Canon would have sent me a new camera.

Hi Pal2Tech, first, I wanna thanks for your very helpful videos - they give lots of knowledge and great tips!
Second, I wanna apologize for bothering you about sharing my problem.
After about 1000 first shots, I found some defective pixels in my images - often showed out in shots at night with iso 800-1250 + ss 30-60/ second. For sure, I made some tests - cap closed, sensor warmed up at 1st , 2nd, a picture taken with iso 800, ss 30". I found some results that made me confused:
- 1st test: 3 defective pixels showed out (they're quite big, can be found if magnify 150%).
- 2nd (after the 1st few days): they increased 6 or 7 (tiny size)
- 3rd (after the 2nd few days): increased 12 ones (tiny size)
- and the near final test: I counted 22 - all of them have color white (most of them is very small, hard to find but 3-5 of them is easy to see)
Found them made me worry so much (because when I bought my XH1, it had defective pixel free and I quite sure I didn't make any taboo in photography as shoot the sun directly). I can't distinguish they are dead/ hot or stuck pixel (in Vietnam, almost Fujier call all of them are: dead pixel, make clear is overabundant).
Please notice that they're all white (not red/ green or blue). I hope your answer make me clear whether my camera got dead/ hot or stuck pixel? It is normal? Can I feel free to enjoy taking photos with my camera?

Ordered an X-t4, the first one had 4 white stucked pixel in taround he center since day one so i refund it and got another one.
Same story for me with my XT3, Fujifilm sensor is a bad joke.
Tried it on my X-T20, did not make any difference, unfortunately :-(
Could I have made something wrong?
Sadly, my life has come to this, looking forward to "Fast Friday", however, I always learn something, and this Fast Friday's beginning intro was gra
LOL Robert! Well cheer up pal, could be worse. My life has come to having to MAKE the FF vids. 👍
Very helpful.
is the pixel remap option available on xt1?
I also looked.. not available on xt1 :(
if ia have in a camera that don't have this funcion like x100t how can i repear this?
You either have to clone out the pixel in Lightroom/C1 or send the camera to Fujifilm for service.
This happened to my xt200 and i couldn't figure it out so we returned it. It actually showed up in lightroom so it was pretty confusing
Is it normal that when I look at the second control photo and zoom in with the camera joystick that the photo looks like a night sky with dim stars all over the place?
love the content
Thank you so much!!
Although FUji is great why dont you consider a full frame? curious to listen your opinion
Pixel Mapping does not help in Lightroom with RAWs :(
Literally just noticed one pop up last week
Interesting
Not work for video mode
Well, I have the Fuji X-T1 and there is no option for Pixel mapping, so I'm boned.
Next topic how I edit my youtube video if possible
This tool only works for photo mode, but for videos it does not solve any dead pixel problems.
@@WhySteveuse the dead pixel fix in Da Vinci Resolve.
Yeah, it's a workaround. But it's still disappointing that stuff like this happens and the brand just ignores you. Canon would have sent me a new camera.
doesn't work for video.
And all the X-T1 users can just cry in this corner right here. No pixel mapping here. Click click click in post!
