the madman did a paid shoot with only two rolls of film? Nuts.
were the only two rolls that turned out lol
Two rolls are just to walk Baxter 😂
Jason did what he knew was sufficient! I covered a major religious event with 5 frames, in a Rollei-35.
you don't need to repeat every shot 20 times when you know what you're doing
@@jasongold6751absolutely badass tbh
that first photo :') so nice
Please keep giving Monica the freedom zoom. I love the different perspectives.
Very happy to see Slim Aarons getting some more recognition. Has been my favorite photographer since I was a kid. Sweet video as always.
I don't think a lot of people consciously realize the sfx that you add to your videos. I noticed it once and I look for it every time! Love it daddy Jason.
I noticed some of them but not in this vid. Can you give me a time stamp of the vfx in this video?
@@brolvoo the one that stood out to me which was probably difficult to make sound realistic was when Monica was walking up to a building and did a pose. I could hear the footsteps pretty loud and the ruffling of a jacket pretty loud. I can't say 100% that it was sfx but it sounded good.
If you need another Palm Springs motel to photograph, The Trixie Motel would be perfect for that pink fantasy!
god damn that "lube bay" counter shot had me rolling
Every time I see you posted a new video, I go to Caleb's channel and play his video first. It's so I can first get his high hopes onto me and later come back to your video and get busted with a monotonic and depressive voice. It feels like a rollercoaster ride.
How dare you assume I watch your videos on the toilet. I’m appalled.
Quite - I’m having a bath …
Yea I would never be on the toilet while watching grainydays…. 😳
Speak for yourself. My ass cheeks are both irnly planted on the toulet seat and completely asleep and I'm not sure I want to deal with them waking back up any time soon.
Exactly. Now leave me alone so I can wipe my ass.
I know right? I watch his videos IN the toilet.
Ain’t lying. Literally sat on the toilet and started watching.
I love this channel because no matter how fed up I am with my day, you're just 3 more sub-basement levels of "over it" than I can ever be. Also I learn things from time to time so that's fun I guess.
love how monica's and jason's photo styles are completely different
Yes, that's fun! Hope there's more of her work in future videos.
Hey thanks for the shout out! Kodachrome was absolutely a pain to develop. Not recommended…😅
Only Kodak could and Dwayne's.The colors were never correct!!
your shots make me want to drink the Palm Springs pool
This is "Americana" I like your sense of humor and your photography.
Watching you from Llança, about 160 kilometers north of Barcelona, near French border.
Some day I'll make a trip in the USA , very close with what you did in Palm Springs. I did something similar in the nineties over the East cost. Best wishes.Luis .
The American Southwest is a must-see.
As a kid we did afternoon trips from Roses to Llanca, had wonderful Xurros, hiked up that hill in the port... Mentioning you home brought back all sorts of nostalgia.
Luis, I hope that one day you can make that trip!
Cheers from Germany.
(Now I want Xurros and some salty Costa Brava breeze)
Two issues with Kodachrome. It’s not made anymore and you can’t develop it. Other than that, it’s a great film.
Tomorrow may be Good Friday, but this is Great Thursday because a new Grainydays video is out
Michigander here. My very first roll of color film I ever shot was in Palm Springs when I was visiting a friend a few years ago. Ironically, that’s also when I first discovered your YT channel and work. Got a chance to spend last summer in Palm Springs again, shot soooooo much film while there. Shoutout to the Camera West store in Rancho Mirage for being my film “supplier” while I was in town. Such a fun summer.
Have you seen his road trip video when he went through Michigan? Makes me want to go to Belle Isle, again.
No!! I haven't seen that video. I'll have to try and find it. Belle Isle is on my to-do list still!@@mgscheue
In the 80s I shot (exposed) a lot of Kodachrome 64 in the Philippines. The green foliage, blue skies and depending on the angle the various blue colors of the ocean were spectacular despite my limited abilities. Also shot a lot of Fuji color 1600 scuba diving. However, between the high grain of the film and the water filtering out sunlight most of those photos were bland. Started shooting film again about a decade ago. Went looking for Kodachrome 64 (talk about being out of touch). All I could find was the old Paul Simon song.
Babe wake up Jason posted a new video! 😍
That’s the same comment everyone makes on every video. Your stolen joke isn’t funny anymore.
@@whothennow24 wow thanks?
@@whothennow24 maybe it wasn't a joke. Maybe they were talking to their waifu, Alexa, and she decided to post the statement as a comment on the video. You know how those AIs are.
Love your videos! Can you add aperture setting details (SP, ISO, Aperture m) to your images in the videos? I also have the Konica Hexon 21-35 lens (may have purchased it after seeing your M6 lol) and want to get better with exposure and sharpness on such a unique but slower lens. Also curious on how to push my M8.2 more which mirrors film low light limitations to get the looks that I want. Cheers!
My brother is the one that wrote that Kodachrome article you showed :)
grainydays x palm springs
two of my favorite things
057-1.02: A very cool vedub with roof rack.
YEESS, exactly my thoughts haha
Not too many people are shooting Portra 400, maybe you could give Monica a roll of that and see if she can introduce people to the film stock. Bue seriously, lomo turquoise.
I am actually laughing so loud! I SWEAR to you as you said 'slammed your bare ass on to [a toilet]' I actually did at that EXACT moment. I can't believe how incredibly well timed that was.
Awesome seeing you drive through the same parts of freeway and streets I know really well 😀
I love Palm Springs and live nearby
Kodachrome rocked. I gave up 35mm photography when Dwayne’s quit developing it. No point. You’re all wasting your time. I even shot it in 120 on my Mamiya 7.
I can 100% confirm that the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is totally awesome. You're so high up, with an awesome view of the desert below.
Hooray, Monica & Baxter! The E100 looks really good with your filter.
Haha wonderful stuff, and great pics! 👍
Great stuff, Jason.
Love that Minolta. Picked one up for $5.00 from goodwill online. Lovely photos as always.
love the epic conversation with Monica shot and the toilets looks desent.
for a long time i've tried to deny how much i love california, but your photography- the warm tones and overall romantic shots, make it actually impossible to keep up that front :')
I just love you guys
pool shot looks bomb! Maybe give monica a black and white film?!
love this
Sick lens, sick vibes, sick boy.
I reckon Monica deserves a nice roll of Ektar 100 next!
Dude was waiting to see when you were gonna make it to my hood! It had Jason written all over! Rad to see you caught the scene. Wish to have cross paths
Same here! I live in Indio!
A Palm Springs Jason vid?! BEEETTTTTTT
Shits banging. I think this video is one I have re-watched the most in the smallest amount of time. The music, story telling, and visuals just keep me on a loop
Dude...those first shots were insane. Excellent video.
Wow those opening images.
A Grainy Days film. Brought to you by a company that makes cubicle walls. Holy algorithm. Kinda thing that wrinkles up the time space continuum.
That N2 Deep reference was the hidden gem in this video. I’m amazed anyone else other than me knew that song.
Interesting video, great photos 👍👍
I've finally taken the time to watch this video, and I feel incredibly called out because I am indeed sitting on the toilet right now...
If monica likes contrasty scenes then definitely black and white film next.
Maybe PanF or just starting off on Kentmere.
I’d love to know which ISO range you use the most - seems like a lot of your best work is fairly closed down. The framing and deep focus is such a vibe with those sharp lenses on the M6. Bravo.
Kodakchrome has(had) much more dynamic range, especially the 25, than ektrachromes ~5ish. So you must shoot it using zone exposure as first, well the bland desert setting helps(also the dominant yellow) if you don't look into bushes. You push more shadows you tamper brights and vice versa, thus why the skin tones suffer often, keeping aside the fact it natively likes to color shift if exposed wrong.
magnificent.
Bro was in my hell hole of a backyard. Interesting seeing an outsiders perspective on where I live.
In my opinion, any video that features Monica is a good one.
Mr. Peanut has a cane though... Do you get a weapon ???
edging over here to see your shots, dude
For some scenens, maybe a PL-filter on top of the warming filter to get one step closer to the good ol’ Koda?
Monica needs some lomo purple in her life. Or redscale.
Nice photos. Now I see why your are championing to bring back Aerochrome.
Gotta show off the Diamond Dynasty team one of these days! Love your work, it's been a big inspiration as I get started with film photography
Dope hotel, breh. I still have a roll of Ektrachrome I bought two years ago in the fridge. I am just waiting on the wrong time to bust it out. Looks like a fun place.
And where is "the fridge" located? I too would like to purchase a roll of Ektachrome. Please share. 🙂
Nice song choice at 14:37 bro. Moody blues 👍🏿
I think Monica is the Real photographer. You are a great narrator!!😊
first time seeing you not alone on a trip lol
I'm old. I shot Kodachrome because my dad shot Kodachrome. I also shot Ektachrome .... No, I don't feel special. Just old. You always have a video that is fun to watch. Just all laid backsort of. Good thing Monica can help keep you on track.
Nice fotos this time. Keep going 😊
I need to know more about the 3D wizard. Did you just tape bingo chips over the first two lenses? Anything over the third lens? I really want to try this with mine
May I ask what kind of warm filter you were using for E100 film? Those "Kodachrome" color looks nice
hey thanks for this relaxing video. Whats the name of the lightmeter app? i need a new one mine confuses me like hell
Hey, anybody know what filter that was specifically? Really want to try out the E100 w/ Warmth Filter combination. thx
Cinestill offers a special E6 developing kit that actually gets the look pretty close to the Kodachrome look with Ektachrome.
expose 1 stop lower in camera and push 1 stop in development and you got the same contrast as the original :P
Sickkkk
which filter did you use?
1:19 you read my mind
Cool project. PS- you can never have too many Margaritas
I think Monica should try Lomo Purple next time.
The video title is so promising …. I had to check it out 😂
I will definitely be ripping off your Ektachrome hack. It’s a cool vibe.
I guess these shots are, ... ok. 🤩
Never felt more known then at 1:22 😳
How did you know that I am watching your videos while sitting on a toilet?! A true magician
*Watches this video tearfully looking at my last roll of Ektachrome that I haven't been able to develop yet because developing 120 E-6 is hella expensive and I don't get paid until next week*
I think Ektar at 50 might be more Kodachrome than E100. Those reds really make the look.
I'm really surprised that you haven't shot a single roll of B&W Infrared à la Julius Shulman. He was the one who made all those iconic photos of the Case Study houses in Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs after all.
N2 Deep?? Park the ride in the front like a slick one, just in case, we got a bust a quick one? 😂
Lube Bay. Tight.
I thought I was original when I bought an imagetech 3d camera for six bucks, and then I found out you already made a video on it!
i love this video, as i do every video you make, but i especially loved when you talked about slim, would be cool to have a more in depth video about photographers you look to for inspiration/enjoyment
Great pics though man
Monica should have her own YT channel dedicated to putting up with your shit ;)
what's the light meter app's name you used?
What app is that to check camera setting ?
"chicken fajita" made me flinch
i think your kodachrome substitute is a lot flatter than the real thing, kodachrome usually has little to nothing in the shadows, but the colours are really close!!
Any place is better for pictures than Florida. I guess.
dayum son super fresh pics
Mama took my Kodachrome away!
DUNE 2!
