Minolta is probably one of the most underrated brands like Konica due to their disastrous partnership forced on them by the Japanese government when Japanese brands begin to fail. The good thing is that it led to the acquisition by Sony and the rest is history. Both companies had successful partnerships with Leica at one point including the Hexar RF which was probably the best camera Konica ever made apart from the original Auto Reflex, and Minolta which of course gave Leica their SLRs of the 1990s ( The Leica R up to the R6 is basically a Minolta MC/MD mount camera with an incompatible mount. The original Leica R body has Minolta DNA all through it and the original Leica R SLR is loosely based off what Minolta was doing with the Minolta XE at the time, just with Leica versions of Minolta MD lenses on the R mount. Then there were some point and shoot Minoltas that were rebranded as Leica).
The 1990s would then lead eventually to Minolta branching off doing its own thing which created the Minolta Alpha 5, Minolta Alpha 7 and Minolta Alpha 9 (also in Dynax for North America and Maxxum for Europe) which we know today as the Sony A6000, Sony Alpha 7 and Sony Alpha 9.
While correctly the last true A7 and A9 in SLR format was the Sony A99 and eventually A99 MKII as Sony tested the waters in their final swan song of any interest for the A mount (which failed overall).... The legacy of those failures would be the success that continues under the same insignia today with the A7 and A9 mirrorless cameras.

The clouds are called "Standing Lenticular Clouds" and they are caused when there are high winds blowing over the mountains. The wind actually creates waves in the sky (mountain wave turbulence). Those clouds are usually located at the peaks of the waves. They are actually pretty common in the Eastern Sierra.
Edit: Watched 10s more of the video and just realized you guys looked it up... I'll leave this comment anyways XD.

Minolta point-and-shoots are *extremely* slept on. I have over a dozen Minolta cameras, and the point-and-shoots are what I always reach for. The lenses are extremely sharp and provide beautiful colors. I've made multiple portfolio shots on a $10 AF-Tele from the 80s.

Yeah I have a similar point and shoot, a Fuji DL-270 Zoom that also has the daft panorama mode. Never used that function, seems a waste and dumb feature.
I took it to Rome where the light there is better than gloomy London (though I also did actually manage to get great shots in the cloudy weather too). It took great pictures with a surprisingly sharp lens, it's fun to actually use, the autofocus is actually very useful and makes up for my own shitness.
I'll be taking it to Bilbao along with an SLR and yeah as you say, hauling a point and shoot like this is will be easier. There's something to be said about the sharpness of these 90's cameras where the tech had basically peaked and budget options when taking well framed photos can be legitimate

Minolta; the famous company that bought Leica's patent for autofocus in the 70s, because Leica thought autofocus would never catch on.
