I use my astra G van for camping it's brilliant, a decent single mattress in the back is perfect for 1 person, a few cargo nets for storage, a bed on wheels 😁 Owned my van 10 years, its an 03 plate with the Isuzu 1.7 dti engine. Kept the engine standard, but have changed the exterior and interior quite extensively over time. Gsi front bumper, irmscher rear bumper, Gsi skirts, astra vxr seats Love it.. It's weird iv owned many calibre cars in my time, but I can't praise the g van enough.. It just does exactly what it says on the tin perfectly 😁👍
@@motorcarhistory Here is a vid I made a few years ago, just put it on my TH-cam channel so I could share.. I'll have to make a better video, I also have a 24 year old vauxhall Calibra.. Most of my vids on my channel are spent driving to music, and just experimental, non professional lol th-cam.com/video/0yaF0615NuI/w-d-xo.html
I actually want to go back to 16"wheels on my van, as the 17,s are nice, but iv hit a pot hole with the 40 profile a few times and now buckled the front O/s wheel.. Need at least a 50 or 55 to have a decent bit of cushion
Lovely vans, owned my 2005 1.7 CDTI for 12 years. Bought her at 85.000 & now done 233,000 miles. Still does 48 mpg & uses no oil. Original GM clutch was changed at 206,000. has Only needed a back box, rear coil springs, alternator a a radiator (when a deer hit me) Love it so much that last week I bought another one, 2006 (mk4 again) with only 53,000 miles & the bloke I bought it from had owned it since it was 1 year old.
Yep they run well had problems with starting when cold.. Trying many things to sort this found out it was starter motor in the end so handy hint on high mileage one. They have a job cranking when old. Back box the same and sensor to gearbox dirty replaced thats it in 10'plus years
had an S reg when the G 1st came out then got a V reg both 1.7dti;s and then an x reg 1.7cdti . great van the V reg i covered 85k in 14 months in it with no issues
Yes there petrol ones even a lpg petrol i seem to rember the heads on those used to be pretty poor 1.4 litres of top of my head but maybe wrong. They getting a bit rare now. Nice project less rust than a Ford Van aswell always a bonus having had a lot of those aswell ;-)

@@motorcarhistory oh, forgotten about the starter motors. I’ve worn out 2 & keep a new one as a spare.

Plenty of useful low down torque for size and weight and very car like.
I’m looking at saving one from being crushed
Various engines are you forgetting about the petrol ones too ?
