They transport me back to childhood, when life was simpler and family meant the entire world to people. I’ve had the flu this week and last, so I’ve been hanging around enjoying the videos. I must mention; one of my pet peeves are cooks that are so wasteful. I really appreciate the way you scrape out your bowls when you’re baking. There’s a lot of wasting by chefs and on some cooking shows.
Every time I throw away stems, peelings, anything like that, I feel wasteful and wish I could feed it to chickens or pigs, so every bit goes to yummy meals and growth even to the animals. Alas, I have not animals like that. Wish I could.
After I pressure cook my beans I set the instant pot on saute and cook down till the broth thickens. Sometimes I mash a few beans with a spoon on the side of the pot to help thicken the broth. Your dinner looks DELICIOUS 😁💞
I think there are more degrees of doneness for beans than there are for steak. Pinto or Northern beans I do the bean setting twice in the Instant Pot (80 minutes) and the high setting of slow cook for 10 hours or more. Pintos I soak overnight and Northerns I don't soak. I know most people don't like theirs that way but, that's how I like mine.
I love turnips as a substitute for potatoes. I'm diabetic so I try to limit potatoes and discovered that turnips are a good less starchy substitute. My favorite way to eat them is Cubed and tossed with olive oil, salt and pepper and roasted at 400 until they are tender and a little brown.
The entire meal was new to me. I've never ate cornbread and the soup beans combined that way. And I can not remember ever eating turnips with the greens. I have a pot of pintos cooking right now. I usually season them with just homemade chicken broth but I'm out so I used a little bit of bacon. I deseeded some jalapeños from the garden and cooked in with them. I like the broth better too but I let it cook down until it's more like a gravy. I made some of my gluten free cornbread which I will crumble into a bowl and cover with the beans and broth. Some fresh tomato and onion wedges along with radish and cucumber slices will complete the quintessential Appalachian supper.

Looks so good. Here in Florida it doesn't usually get a frost before the turnips are ready but 2 years ago I planted a small batch in a grow bag that claimed they were extra sweet and early. They WERE sweet and delicious. Just don't remember what kind they were but a new variety. It is hard to wait on nature when our taste buds are screaming - LOL. Your carrot cake was the best finish for this garden meal.

My MawMaw used to make me wash the greens in a tub out by the back door. She said I had to rinse them at least 4 times to make sure they were clean. I'd peel the turnips and cut them. I loved the smell of greens cooking in the pot. It was comforting to me.

When I was growing up, we had soup beans at least twice a week and my mom never soaked them. She just cooked them in a pot on the stove all day, they were so good. She would look at every bean Lol She would sit at the table and spread a layer of dry beans in her left hand and pick through them one by one. She would toss out even the broken ones. I sure miss her cooking and I miss her💔 Thanks, Tipper, for the trip down memory lane for me. ❤
By "evening," she means "afternoon." The first time I ever came across that was when I read "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" when I was 12. That was a long time ago. Fascinating.
Great video. They can leave carrots in the ground for months. They tend to sweeten during the winter. We have done this, when we have had a garden before the deer and bunnies took over. Or harvest the carrot and bury in sand in a pail and store in the garage-they will be good until you want them.
That looks so good! Better than what I made! I do plan on making soup beans this week tho. But I'll make homemade corn tortillas for them. (Also rice, and shredded beef for tacos). I also love corn bread!

P.s. I love that Matt helps with the dishes.
I love seeing you enjoy the harvest of your hard work.
Watching your channel takes me back to my childhood. My mom (RIP) prepared so many of the dishes you cook🌟
Happy to remind you of your sweet mother!!
I could watch this channel all day and get nothing done myself. 😀
😀 Glad you enjoy our videos!
What a feast, everything looks wonderful, and I know it's good! I've eaten your cooking and know both you and the Deer Hunter are excellent cooks!
Lucky beyond measure. God is good.

I wish you folks would all go out to McDonald's! you're making everybody hungry with all this traditional cooking.
Thanks for showing cultural cuisine. Nice.
That looks delicious and yes, onion definitely ❣️❣️
I was always told to grow the Turnips in the fall because the heat of summer makes them strong/bitter and hotter.
The cool weather makes them more mild.
👍❤️✌️🙏🇺🇸
As frugal as you are, Tipper, I don't think you need to apologize to anyone. I am hungry for beans. Wish I could just invite myself.
Absolutely love all of your preparation of the wonderful food you are a joy to listen to and watch. Wish that l had grown up in your home. Just pure delight!

We picked our first rattlesnake beans this morning, then our wonderful neighbor came over with his loader bucket filled with purple, Yukon gold and red potatoes. That is what I will making for supper. Can't decide on biscuits or corn bread to have with. I so enjoy watching g your videos when relaxing after working in the garden. I am so grateful I found your and your daughters channel.😊❤
One of my favorite veggies Turnips/Greens. Looks delicious.
My MawMaw used to make me wash the greens in a tub out by the back door. She said I had to rinse them at least 4 times to make sure they were clean. I'd peel the turnips and cut them. I loved the smell of greens cooking in the pot. It was comforting to me.
You no tipper I didn't grow up with seeing my dad or grandpa ever helping with the dishes but I just want to give a shout out to your husband for always being ready to help you in the kitchen my husband has always helped me to and it is nice we been blessed with some pretty good guys not that my dad and grandpa wasn't I think it might just been a generation thing God bless
You are very lucky your husband helps you cook and clean up
When I was growing up, we had soup beans at least twice a week and my mom never soaked them. ❤
That looks like a tasty treat. Soup beans are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By "evening," she means "afternoon." The first time I ever came across that was when I read "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" when I was 12. That was a long time ago. Fascinating.
That’s a meal I could really enjoy.
Oh my goodness, my mouth is watering 🥰
Food I grew up on and still love it!
Oh! How I love turnip greens!!! Sometimes Momma used to cook them together with mustard greens, sometimes kale. In later years, she seasoned them only with salt and a little vegetable oil. My, my...
That sounds so good 😀
