I missed the blade dash a LOT but tbh the NXE dash added party chat which for someone who played with irl friends, was fantastic. Who else remembers when PS3 didn't have party chats because it didn't have enough ram?
For me was summer vacation playing Halo 3 with a clan that even paid me to change my gamer tag. Sadly I lost contact with them around 2009/10 and never found them again.
Everyone copies Nintendo, and they always will. Nintendo had the first dpad, the first diamond face button pattern, the first shoulder buttons, the first analog stick, the first 2 stage triggers, the first 1st party wireless controller (Wavebird), First motion controller, first hybrid console. Whether you like it or not, Nintendo drives and shapes the video game market similar to how Apple shapes the cell phone market.
Xbox 360 is still my favorite home console of all time. Halo 3 ❤️ Ive owned many consoles from Atari all the way to current Gen (about 23 in total). IMO the Xbox 360 is one of the best consoles ever. The 360 is what pulled me completely away from PC gaming. I always had a console and PC until I got a 360 and no longer felt the need for a PC. I’m sure that’s blasphemy to a lot of people 😂
Yeah I was a console dude who played old games on crappy home computers growing up so the Xbox 360 really was an amazing experience for online gaming. I had a ps2 and loved it to death but Xbox 360 had it all full offline experiences with awesome online features packed in. Greatest games from the era halo 3, oblivion, gears of war, mass effect 1, and bioshock 1 was the sweet spot of the generation before they started going crazy with dlc back then they were usally full game expansions shivering isles anyone.
Kinda funny really, it was the End of the "360 era" that got me started on PC gaming, the Xbox One never peaked my interest but I will always love my Reach Edition 360 slim, it still sits proud by my much more monstrous modern gaming desktop, and now a Wii (with a dead disk drive) that I homebrew modded so I can enjoy some of the Wii and Gamecube games I missed out on years ago
I started the generation with ps3 and got a 360 about 2-3 years deep. So mine never had bladez. This videos tho give me some confidence in buying a non opening 360 for cheap and seeing if I could fix it
They definitely tanked the dashboard performance with the NXE update, which was... unfortunate. You can still get back to this dashboard version with current JTAG/(S)RGH mods if you wanted to (with the EFUSE security completely bypassed now). Checking the capacitors and changing the thermal paste on these older models is a good idea With decent "AAA" games, arcade games, indie games, and demos the 360 was definitely a gamer-first console, as _game_ consoles should be. Even the media center integration and local picture/video streaming capabilities were good The RRoD situation was pretty unlucky for M$ though -$1,000,000,000 😐
My mom got me an Xbox 360 for my 12 birthday. We didn’t have the money. She knew I wanted it so bad and I was so happy to have one. I got Halo 3 on launch day. Even took the manual to school. So many fond memories with the blades Xbox. I was late to Xbox Live. Later than my friends. I had a GameFly subscription so I racked up some serious gamerscore for the time. It was around 8,000. My friends didn’t believe me so I took a picture with my Samsung Rant to show them at school. Then I finally got Xbox live and got the NXE update and got to make my avatar for the first time. As much as I loved that experience I missed that original Xbox 360 dash. Even now, 110,000 gamerscore and almost 15 years later. Thanks for the video Jon.
I was the first person in my area to get to try a 360 The rental store I worked at wanted me to be able to tell customers about it, so they let me take the rental machine home for the weekend before launch. I was hyped to play Ridge Racer 6 and Dead or Alive 4. Neither worked as this machine was one of the launch models that gouged rings into the discs!! They nearly fired me and wanted me to pay for the system and the damage, but thankfully multiple reports of this happening started floating around.
This was my favorite 360 UI. Although the UI today still has some remnants and it is pretty speedy but no where as cool as the original Blades UI. I remember I had quite a few themes installed to change it all up and that was so cool. To this day I am still disappointed they ditched all that.
When I worked at a pawn shop I just immediately changed out that disc drive elastic. I would take an unfolded paper clip and poked the disk drive open and after I would manipulate the elastic out and switch it out.
I still have my Xbox Live Vision camera sitting in a box somewhere. I think I got it in a bundle that wasn't supposed to be sold separately, but a shop not far from me was selling them. It came with PGR3, an XBLA disc with about 3-4 full arcade games and a bunch of trial arcade games, the XBLV camera, and some amount of XBL Gold membership. All for about £35.
I remember getting the Xbox 360 many years ago at Christmas with the detachable HDD which was bundled with Call of Duty 3 and Gears of War. I thought the design of the console was quite cool and thought that it was awesome that it utilised wireless controllers straight out of the box. I also remember when I had fired up Gears of War for the first time thinking the graphics were amazing. It's a shame those models were particularly plagued by the infamous red ring of death. Now I have an Xbox Series X and it's amazing looking at how far the Xbox has come along since then.
I first got my 360 around 2009, so a few years after it came out, and by then the Blades UI had been replaced. I got the 360 used and it came with Halo 3 ODST, which was my first Halo game. I had tons of fun playing split-screen games (Halo, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty, Castle Crashers, Peggle, Forza, Minecraft, Terraria, etc.) with my friends and family, and I'm really glad Microsoft has been so serious about backwards compatibility recently, because it's really nice to able to play some of your favorite games on newer hardware. It makes me wish that Sony would develop PS3 emulation for PS5, but I doubt that will ever happen sadly. I'd love to check out what games PS3 had back then, because I only had a 360 and Wii.
I loved the blade dash! I feel like it was the best designed UI of the generation even though everyone seems more nostalgic for the Wii and it's shop channel music. I loved being able to play my own music in-game!
Great video! Brings back good memories. Xbox 360 was first new console I bought with my own money as teenager. I remember working all summer doing car washes and detailing saving up to get one. I wish I still had that thing today. But it got red ring and I didn’t know how fix it so think threw it away.
This takes me back, i do miss having a console as a media center. Wish new consoles allowed it. I do hate taking a launch 360 apart. Those plastic clips suck. Lots of plastic broken in my years of rebuilding them lol
I have one that I've had since lunch it started getting hot a couple years ago and I haven't used it since. I knew I was going to have to break it apart and do some work to it so I've been avoiding it. I've also got a fat PS3 that needs the same.

Nah. The 360 ones broke way too easily. Dpad was horrible. Bumpers always failed. Triggers were tiny, overall it was small. The newer controllers are better in every single way.
I was stationed in South Korea when it came out. All the PX had was copies of Gun and Madden 06. It was an easy decision to stick with my PS2 until I got State side lol.
I camped outside of my local BestBuy 24 hours before they launched the 360. My friend Corey and I were second and third in line and had taken time off work to guarantee we got one, since we hadn't pre-ordered and availability was pretty sketchy. The hype was unreal & the day spent in line was actually pretty rad. Everyone was playing local multi-player Mario Kart DS since that had just came out and we all kept ordering pizzas and binging caffeine. Those were the days ;)
Yeah you were pretty safe with Halo 3. I got my 360 in September 2008, they were still using blade UI then. It must have been 2009 that they first changed it.
Dude holy shiiii that's literally my old 360. This entire video I was thinking about how I had never connected my 360 to the internet back in the day so the Blade UI was all I ever knew. But my 360 had that EXACT big black smudge on the side panel that this one has. I'm 99.99% sure that this is my old 360 that my ex step dad stole in 2010ish and pawned or did whatever with.
I always wished they updated the earlier dashboards alongside the newer ones so you could just choose what you preferred. Out of all of them the newest one we are stuck with is by far the ugliest in my opinion.
I still have to turn on my Xbox 360 to watch any of the HDDVD's I have. Guess what, they never updated the HDDVD firmware to move away from the blade UI. This is not nostalgia for me, this is my life, if I want to watch Heroes season 1.
I joined in on the 360 era just a tad to late for blades unfortunately. Was playing the original xbox up until then and occasionally would go to my big brother's apartment and play his xbox with blades. Such good, good memories.
I understand the nostalgia for the Blade UI, but am I the only one that actually liked the Mii-ripoff UI? Especially the ability to dress your characters in outfits from the games you play? Loved it. I know it was just another way for game publishers to get money from you, but it was cool interacting with people online and seeing someone wearing Ezio's robe, or Master Chief's suit, etc.
Got my first 360 July of 2008. It has the Falcon motherboard revisions, and came with the blades dash, so only got to use it for a few months before the updated Dashboard was pushed. Lots of good memories of that dashboard. That 360 still operates to this day, but I have had to change out thermal paste, and a failing laser. I have probably more hours of use on that 360 than any other game console I've ever owned.
I still have my blades complete in the box since 2006 never been updated or powered on after i used it for 12hrs straight . i still love the sound on start up ,they should of kept that sound.
Dude, you found a unicorn 360 lol! I got my first 360 from a friend. My OG PS3 had died, he needed some money and sold me his 360 with everything he had for $180. I’m still using the high-end HDMI cable he gave me to this day.
I *LOVED* the music integration of the 360! Nowadays they're trying to force music streaming services. Just let my play my own local music and leave me alone with the subscription crap.
@@timelymirror7826 It was built it. Meaning durning cut scenes, the music player would pause automatically and resume when done. All within a complete package. Now I have to use multiple other devices when playing and manually have to stop start the musical content for cut scenes. Meaning a much higher risk of missing something. Funny how people can rightly point out Nintendo having a bad online experience because it doesn't have voice chat built into the system, but ignore local music control no longer being built into current consoles. Especially when the Xbox 360 did it right way back then.
I still got my Xbox 360 hooked up to my tv it's the earlyer black elite system, not with the blade UI annymore unfortunatly but i dont mind, never been opened stil works like a charm.
Hopefully we can get a modern interpretation of the Blade UI for the 20th anniversary of the 360 in four years. Which should also coincide with a new hardware release, I'd also love to see the Series X25 in a 360 inspired shell, maybe sqare hourglass?
I remember my young teenage self so excited to go online for the first time with halo 2 on the 360. I laugh at myself then, always rage quiting and yelling because I died lol. Then playing chrome hounds and phantasy star online. Making friends through squads was awesome. Thanks for the nostalgia trip
Got my first Xbox 360 in 2006 with a copy of Crackdown as my first game. I miss the blades dashboard as even the system sounds alone when scrolling takes me back to those early days of just being in awe that I actually had a 360 as I was only in 6th grade & was one of the first out of all my friends.
I got a Launch Day 360 that has the very first blades dashboard and it was hardly ever used. No RROD ever in it's life, still has the sticker on the front meaning its never been opened. It works flawless and I use it all the time to play music ( I dont play games on it because it will overheat) and I use it with precautions (Plenty of air, on it's side, etc) it's a Xenon
I still remember the run up to the blades dash update, me and all my friends were so excited for the update due to party functions ect but damn I miss those blades!
I bought one of the original white launch 360s way back at the end of '05. It worked well for a long long time and then sometime and I'm going to say 2014 or something like that it started getting very loud and quite hot I really need to work on it cuz I have a lot of games still on it. I still love that thing all this time later.
Give this the ability to download in the background and install games to hard drive and it's perfect. Of course back then installing to hard drive wasn't a thing as the 360 either came with no hard drive or 20gb. Not much of a jump considering the original Xbox came out in 2001 and already had a 10gb hard drive. Yeah they were pushing it with the 360 in several places, but it was the first next gen system, so they could do whatever they wanted for the moment.
I know nearly everyone loves the Blade UI, but honestly I was never really a fan of it. I don't know, it just felt more out of date than the PS3 and Wii OS. I don't know why I feel that way towards it but it just never felt modern to me.
I've never had an Xbox system. Honestly, I think if people love the 'blade system' so much, Microsoft should have the option to change the UI to the 'blade system' on the Series X/Series S.
I had the 360. The eject button was loose and it was vibrating like crazy when the disc drive was running. It was louder than the drive itself and the fan combined. If you wanted to avoid that, you had to leave the sticker linking the drive's tray and the button together on. That's right. It was such trash that they were using a sticker to try and make it less garbage.
Man I wish I had gotten to experience the blades dash back in the day. I didn't get mine till early 2010 with the NXE dash. I really liked the NXE dash cause it was still sorts colorful, just not as much as the blades. Then the ugly bland modern UI came out and I never did like it.
I missed the blade dash a LOT but tbh the NXE dash added party chat which for someone who played with irl friends, was fantastic. Who else remembers when PS3 didn't have party chats because it didn't have enough ram?

Something like Nintendo Wii rip offs and ended up into casual & entertainment system.
Actually they released a new U.I on November 19th of 2008. I still remember when it happen. And it also gave players the ability to install games.

🙂 there's CDs and TH-cam
Goated video 💯 bring back up old memories
Hopefully we can get a modern interpretation of the Blade UI for the 20th anniversary of the 360 in four years.
Which should also coincide with a new hardware release, I'd also love to see the Series X25 in a 360 inspired shell, maybe sqare hourglass?
Ah amazing. You need that sound on when switching between the blades. What a UI, it was so good at that time!
I remember my young teenage self so excited to go online for the first time with halo 2 on the 360. I laugh at myself then, always rage quiting and yelling because I died lol. Then playing chrome hounds and phantasy star online. Making friends through squads was awesome. Thanks for the nostalgia trip
My man I loved chrome hounds. Then when they implemented party chat in game it changed everything
Damn, that blade was such fire. I miss this for sure

God the Blades was so damn good! One of my favorite UIs ever.

The old blade dash would mean you could JTAG which was much more reliable hack than RGH. I still have my JTAG on a Falcon motherboard.
I still love that thing all this time later.
i love how youtube says the game is just broken
11:22 even though X360 is considered "retro", this game looks completely modern to me
When you opened it I wasnt looking, when you said "wow" I turned to look and also said "wow". Lol.
The blade System was so great. Back in the days I had on my og XBOX a skin for XBMC (later kodi) in the blade design.
Remember the 20GB hard drive being priced at $100 from Microsoft?? 😂😂😂
Fight Night Round 3 Demo, that really pumped me for the future of this console at the time.
I did like how clean the new UI is too but the blade is classic honestly

Does anyone know why mine is frozen on blades home screen with input not working
Man I miss playing music while playing games
This makes me miss my old 360! Vaguely remember the blades, I think they were close to being phased out when I got mine.
Best memories was playing Halo 3 and Forge with my childhood friends.
I know nearly everyone loves the Blade UI, but honestly I was never really a fan of it. I don't know, it just felt more out of date than the PS3 and Wii OS. I don't know why I feel that way towards it but it just never felt modern to me.
I like the Blade UI but I completely agree with you.
The simplistic trend is already starting to feel outdated.
Xbox 360 and PS3 are the forefronts of gaming systems
I've never had an Xbox system. Honestly, I think if people love the 'blade system' so much, Microsoft should have the option to change the UI to the 'blade system' on the Series X/Series S.
I had the 360. The eject button was loose and it was vibrating like crazy when the disc drive was running. It was louder than the drive itself and the fan combined. If you wanted to avoid that, you had to leave the sticker linking the drive's tray and the button together on. That's right. It was such trash that they were using a sticker to try and make it less garbage.
Never had a Xbox 360 or experienced the blades experience.
But wow that is so responsive.

Man I wish I had gotten to experience the blades dash back in the day. I didn't get mine till early 2010 with the NXE dash. I really liked the NXE dash cause it was still sorts colorful, just not as much as the blades. Then the ugly bland modern UI came out and I never did like it.
The UI after NXE is called Metro.
That shit sucks. They based it on Windows 8 which most people hated.
i like the metro
Not that often do you see a blades dashboard Xbox that still has the warranty sticker... He ruined the perfectness
I don't know how updates work on the 360 but you can't update it fully unless you have a memory card of some kind plugged in.
I wish they would bring back the blades on the Series X and S. Best console UI ever!
You didnt show ripping the two halves of the shell :( That was always my favourite part
Reminds me of back in the day when the world wasn’t fucked.
oh the memories of this dashboard when i first got my xbox 360 back in 2007 😁
You can update the OS to NXE dashboard
Never had an Xbox during the blades, but this is honestly a lot better than the now XSX UI

If your modded yes
