      @@britishaccentmethod Hi! It is important to not only correctly pronounce sounds, but also correctly pronounce english words. So I decided to try to learn all the rules. In the book I can find a lot of examples. So at least I will learn new words, paying attantion to their transcriptions. As to pronounciation, I want to be able to correctly pronounce every sound from transcriptons. Finally I hope I will be able to write down transcriptions without a dictionary. I know it is often not possible. But at least for majority of cases I will be able to do this.

So I need to watch every your video many times. Also I need to watch other youtube channels in order to find another explanation. And after some time I do it again. So I learn how to pronounce sounds. Then I learn some phonetics with this sounds for practice.

    • @britishaccentmethod
      @britishaccentmethod  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Choey, I apologies for the slow response to all your comments. Keep them coming!
      ui as in biscuit//circuit is pronounced /i/ (short i sound). Watch this tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/SLSux5PBiPQ/w-d-xo.html
      oi as in tortoise is the schwa sound.
      Unfortunately English spelling makes it confusing, so the easiest way to find the correct pronunciation is to look at the IPA spelling in an English dictionary.
      Happy Christmas!

  • @josel.6928
    @josel.6928 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I can actually notice a different length of both sounds, but not two different sounds. Spanish speakers have just 5 vowels (a, e, i, o, u), and I can distinguish, for instance, your ´'schwa' sound (why is it called "schwa"?), a sound between our "a" and our "e", but not any difference between your ʌ and ɑː sounds, except in lenght.

    • @britishaccentmethod
      @britishaccentmethod  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jose, Good question. There is a very subtle difference in sound quality between ʌ and ɑː, but it's easier to just think of them both as the same sound, with one being long and one being short. If you think of them like this it won't have a negative effect on your pronunciation at all.
      There's quite a few consonant sounds that can be challenging for Spanish speakers so based on what you've said, I recommend moving on from here to other sounds!
      Hope this helps you :)
      Michael

    • @ter2710
      @ter2710 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most probably there is no difference in quality I think he makes one shorter and one longer. But I do not rule out that theres a very slight difference, that the ^ might be a mix of a and schwa.

      Hi Therénce, The easiest way is to train your ears by using Minimal pairs. In nearly all of my sound comparison videos, I give you these examples where you have 2 words that are exactly the same apart from one vowel sound e.g long vowel/short vowel. This is the most effective way to train your English listening for these sounds.
