To clear up some misconceptions about what is this:
Turan II or officially called 41M Turan was a hungarian "heavy" tank, as the hungarian army designated tanks by caliber and not by size. It was no mean a heavy tank. Neither the 40M and 43M.
A lot of article calls it a "worse panzer iv". Now that's not true either. The original Turan the 40M was actually more capable then the panzer IVs at the time because the F2 variant with the long 75 was only introduced in 1942. The original Turan had a 40mm gun which was a license 40mm bofors gun. And before you ask why put an AA gun inside a medium tank, well 1st, it's 40mm was pretty decent in 1940 and 1941. Most panzer iii either used 37mm or short barreled 50mm guns. 2nd well... hungary basiclly installed the 40mm bofors on EVERYTHING. Like literally everything. The hungarian L-62 called Nimrod used it. They rebarreled old german 37mm anti-tank guns to fit the 40mm AP rounds. Even the in-game Toldi uses it. They even put it inside Me 410s too for bomber hunting and ground support. Hell they would even made the 40mm bofors into an AR if Hungary was given the time. The gun could pen up to 56mm with normal APCBCHE rounds inside the Turan I, which gave it a bit advantage over the early panzer iii and iv. While the 41M was much more similiar with the early panzer iv, it had better armor... and that's it... i wouldn't call the 41M an improvment over the 40M as it used a wwi mountain gun... which had terrible velocity, left large fume coulds inside the turret, and that impressive heat round was very limited in numbers during the war. But why did they put such an outdated gun inside the next generation of a frontline tank? Well... hungary did not make any large modern guns besides the all mighty 40mm bofors, the 8cm bofors, which could not be installed inside the tiny turret of the Turan, and there was also the 105mm howitzer... which was actually modified to fit inside the Zrinyi II which was an assault gun based on the Turan's chassie.
Another missconception is the Turan was outdated from the start. Well... it wasn't the most advanced tank for it's time, it was nowhere as outdated when it came out the factory as a lot of article states. But it was very, very outdated when it first saw combat. Just like the japanese kept the Chi-nu on their main island to defend the country with the most advanced tech, hungary did the same with the Turan. On the eastern front, only the Toldi and the Nimrod saw action early on, as originally the Nimrod was designed as a Tank Destroyer, and againts T-26 and BT tanks the Toldi was more then enough. The problem came when the eastern frontline reached Hungary. By 1944 both the 40M and 41M was facing late variant KV-1 tanks, T-34/76 and T-34-85 and also the mighty IS-2. Againts these foes they had no chance at all.
An interesting fact. There was a 3rd variant called the 43M Turan, or Turan III for wot players. It was to be fielded with a reverse enginered 75mm L/48 gun, and all Turans to be converted to this type. Sadly only one was made, and it was destroyed along with the factory it was stored in during the allied raids on Csepel island. Also the only ever true hungarian heavy tank the 44M Tas was also destroyed during this raid.
Well the 44M Tas is another story but I hope this sums up what the Turan tanks really were and weren't.

Isn't Turán II 1943-1944? In theory the First Turán II entered service in end 1943 and there were a couple of hundreds in service for 1944. 1941 seems too early

No, that's just false. The 40.M Turan I was not a "licence made Czech T-21". Have you even seen pictures of these? The two tanks are distinctly different. What actually happened was that after the Germans annexed Czechoslovakia, the incomplete T-21 prototype (never entered production or service with the Czechs) was given to the Hungarians, and so the Hungarians completed it with help from the original Skoda engineers. Using this as a basis for a new Hungarian medium tank, they developed the 40.M Turan I from the T-21 prototype, but of course they made many improvements and changes, redesigning the turret, hull, adding more armour, changing the main gun from a less reliable 47 mm to a better Hungarian 40 mm cannon and replacing the Czech machine guns with Hungarian ones. So the Turan I was not a Czech vehicle in any way, it was just developed using a Czech prototype as the basis. The Turan II and Turan III were entirely Hungarian developments of the Turan I with no Czech influence.

Hey Phly! About 3 years ago you made a video about the AMX-30B2 BRENUS and how it was one of the worst MBTs in the game. Well today the BRENUS has had quite a glow up, as it now boasts a pretty nice array of tools at the comfortable BR of 8.3, such as thermals, a laser rangefinder, IRCM, and a pretty nice lineup to back it up. So I encourage you to take a look at this underappreciated vehicle again (day 6)

There were quite a few Turans made and they were used in combat - it isn't some weird prototype or sub-variation. And yet it's been hidden behind a battle pass. *Sigh*
This deserves to be in a secondary tech tree for the Italians, like the South African vehicles.
More than that, I'd love to see an International faction for these sorts of vehicles. I have other things but... _looks over lengthy list of demands_ ...this isn't the time.
Day 43: Take the Scimitar, the last Supermarine, out for a spin. Are British AP rockets any good? Have changes to the MCLOS flight model made them more interesting? Is a 20 kg/s burst mass entertainingly naughty? But mainly fly around and blow things up.

I agree, though now I think we have a clear path to a Romanian subtree for Italy. They have said before that Italy is the Minor Axis hub, and Romania’s the last one left with any sort of tank program.

I don’t think that my country have enough tanks to make a new tech tree because most of them are already in other nations because we don’t have own tank industry, we only had one in ww2, the game should only contain a sub tree as hungarian tanks.

It's an interesting vehicle created by modifying a Czech T-21 prototype tank model to carry, originally with a 40mm, later realized that was quite obsolete in 1941 a new variant with a short 75mm which became the Turan II. There was also a Turan III prototype with a long 75 based on the pak 40 that never made it into service, as well as some assault guns with 105mm howitzers, called Zrinyi made from the chassis as Germany couldn't provide them with the Stugs they wanted.
Well the Hungarians actually worked with Skoda engineers to finish the T-21 prototype after Czechoslovakia was annexed by the Germans. The Hungarians then developed the 40.M Turan I from the T-21 prototype, but made significant changes to the turret, hull, armour, gun and engine. Hungary had a lot more armoured vehicles than what you mentioned including the legendary 44M Tas, the Zrinyi I, the Nimrod, the Csaba, etc. And Germany did provide Hungary with Stugs late in the war.

All i want now is the Turán I and Turán III, the Turán I is armed with 40mm 41M L/51 cannon which is far better than the one found on the Toldi, got the same shells tough, the Turán III is armed with the 75mm 43M L/55 cannon

I was a bit concerned about the HEAT shell on it being too ridiculous but it's as reliable as APCR so that balances it surprisingly well.
Somehow snail introduced a BP vehicle that's actually well balanced, good job!

Day 129: Phly, you should play the Hawk III Chinese fighter; 900lbs of bombs in a biplane at 1.0 that you can dogfight in after dropping. Totally balanced.
Funny thing is that the Turan was basicly a worse version of the Pz 4, but here we are having a good boi Turan at our disposal. But if it's a pass tank, then sadly I aint gonna own it

Hey Phly, can you make a video playing a Hungarian-only lineup? There are now 7 Hungarian vehicles in game (hopefully with more to come), 3 Hungarian tanks and 4 aircraft. The tanks are the [1.3] Toldi IIA, the [2.3] Turan II, and the [4.0] Zrinyi I. The aircraft are the Hungarian [2.0] He 112 B-1/U2, [3.7] Bf 110 G-4, [4.0] Bf 109 F-4, and the [4.3] Bf 109 G-2.

1945 if you take out the part about the 45mm, since with the Tiger and later Panther and P26/40, the Germans and Italians finally managed to pull something off that wasn't reliably frontally destroyable with the 45mm.

It had multiple machine guns against infantry and had pretty good mobility. But reliability issues applied to most tanks during WW2, and early war tanks didn't have super incredible armour.

I feel like taking APHE as the primary ammo is better than the HEAT. Several of those shots in the first game would have one shot.

A good line up would be to pair it with the AB 43, 75/18 M41, the Re 2000 GA, either the FC 20 or the Italian D-3 Stuka, and the AS 42 for SPAA

An amazing Hungarian tank, hopefully Hungary gets a subtree soon as they had a rather impressive tank industry for their size, they had the largest and most advanced tank industry of the minor Axis nations, well ahead of nations like Finland, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovakia, as well as having the fourth largest tank industry of the Axis powers, just behind Germany, Italy, and Japan.
Hungary still has many more Hungarian vehicles that can be added to War Thunder, such as the Turan I, Turan III, Toldi I, Toldi III, a bunch of subvariants of these, the Toldi tank destroyer, the 44M Tas, the Zrinyi I, the Zrinyi II, the Nimrod, the Csaba, the Straussler V-4, and many trucks, rocket launcher vehicles and subvariants of these. These are just WW2 ground vehicles alone, Hungary has interesting vehicles for air, possibly some helis, and surprisingly some naval too.

Already in love. I've been waiting so many years to see this tank finally enter popular media, and it's such a well balanced vehicle in War Thunder. Bravo, Gaijin.
Speaking of which, this is a fantastic opportunity to remind everyone that the Japanese and Italian 12.7mm HMGs on their aircraft got their high explosive ammo reworked recently, and they are absolutely monstrous now. Italy has a number of planes in the low ranks with these guns, and the air targets or stealth belts now shred aircraft and soft ground targets like you wouldn't believe. I'm surprised I haven't seen Phly talk about it yet.

I keep seeing people say this thing has good armour. It has worse armour than the Pz.IV F1 and Pz 38(t) F which are also 2.0 and they're not exactly known for their thick armour

I've been having a terrible experience with HEAT. It might just be because I'm new but I'm wondering what exactly it's used for? It feels like APCR that only works on shallow angles.
Can you play the first jumbo with the 75 mm and show that it needs some love, or the m6?
