Scotty..I'm starting to like the C5 Vetts. I have been a GM hater for decades. But I'm in the market for a used fun daily. I have just sold my Honda S2K and owned a Gen2 MR2 back in the 90s. What do you think and recommend. I don't want a project car.
I bought an '86 with 70,000 miles on it and have driven it for 32 years. I just passed 257,445 yesterday. I haven't had to work on the engine but I overhauled the automatic transmission and done other maintenance to keep it in good shape. But the car is still running fine. Scotty is correct.
I regret selling my '84 every day. Everyone was hating on my throttle body injection and low hp but damn was it a fun ride. Always caught looks everywhere I went.
I almost hit a deer with my 96 Corvette. He managed to leap over the low hood on that car, without touching it. The only damage to the car was the drivers seat was soiled !
I had pretty much the same thing. I use to have a 92 base before it got hit by a 15 year old. I was driving one day and a deer ran from right to left and I barely missed it. The deer jump it’s rear end legs up and missed my front end my inches and only because of the low design did I miss the deer lol.
the only thing is unless it's a zl1 or lt4 you'll get beat by a stock EcoBoost mustang or v6 Camaro. and even the lt4 like i think this one is, it's gonna be close. but for 10 grand you can get a low miles clean one.
@God is deep Inside me with no lube The C5 is my favorite (besides a C2), I love both the coupe and the convertible. They look great, handle great, fast stock, with endless mods if you want. I like them better than most new cars...LOL
Scotty, thanks for bringing attention to the C4 Corvette. In 1996 the LT-1 engine came with an auto trans. The 330 hp LT-4 was attached to all 6 speed trans. 1 year only for the Vette. Also they are Targa tops so remove and stow in trunk on nice days. Glad you enjoyed the 96 Corvette, the last year for the 4th gen, C4.
Corvettes are cool ! Had a 96, white w/red interior, only 40 K miles, bought a 2004 C5 with 25 K miles then sold the 96. Also have a 1963 Coupe Split window that I will keep forever ! Love Corvettes ! Great video Scotty !
I had a 95 for about 12 years...the LT1 and LT4 are beasts! Yes, it is a "Mans" car! The C4 is a pain to get in and out of, but lots of leg room once you're positioned in the cockpit.
@@TomTheCat. The transaxle design with the transmission started in the C5 Corvette. The C4s, like this car, are just your standard front engine with the trans directly connected. However they still drive amazing!

@@5abivt I refer to it as the standard, because it is the standard in the automotive industry. Most cars dont have a transaxle. However im pretty sure in the c5s case it help balance out the weight distribution as well.
I had two C4's, they are such an underrated car. Double wishbone up front, 5-link in the rear, three way adjustable shocks, 6 speed, targa top, big brake package, oil cooler, the Z51 Vette was a blast.
C4 Corvettes are starting to get the respect they deserve. A lot of people forget that this was the beginning of the modernization of the corvette we know and love. C2 and C3 rode on the same chassis for 20 years! As a proud 87 convertible 4+3 owner, thanks for giving the C4 a shout out, Scotty!
Never thought I'd see the day when Scotty reviewed a C4 Corvette. I've had 3 C4s and currently have a 94 coupe that runs like a dream. The FX3 suspension has issues and is too expensive to fix so I'm not going to bother fixing it. I'd love to find a 96 for $7k like the one in the video, those were the creme de la cremes of the C4s (excluding the ZR1s). Chevy took all of the upgrades over the 90s and put them in the 96 and made it a final edition worth owning.
That shinny silver thing on the door sill by the seat is AFTERMARKET. So funny he's banging on it calling it "original" all while slamming "aftermarket" junk, when that silver door sill IS AFTERMARKET!!!! Haha.
the 1996 had an optional engine that was a better engine, the LT4 engine was a hot rodded LT1 its about 30-40 more HP than the LT1. The Lt4s also came with a 6 speed manuel. The Lt4 was a one year only in the corvette.
C4 Corvettes are one of the best values out there. I picked up a mint 1992 LT1 Convertible with 45,000 original miles out of a private Corvette collection for less than $10k. Coupes go for significantly less. Babied examples are quite reliable with the 5.7 motor and either transmission. Many experts think the market will only strengthen for the clean C4s in coming years.
I bought a 90 corvette for my daily a few years back and I completely LOVE my vette! Happily, we have no emission laws here on Maui either and a vette sounds amazing straight piped.
Hit a deer with my 2015 C7 in northern Wi going about 60mph in Oct. It was a fairly solid smack on the right front. I pulled over and sat for a minute ,then collected myself to view the disaster .Nothing, not even a scratch .I'm 73 and this my 4th Corvette ( 64',73',96') and so far my absolute favorite .Recently I let my 70 year old girlfriend (people think she's in her early 40s ) drive it to work and somewhat to my surprise she wants one. Scotty is right. You can drive it around town sedately or put it in track mode and stick your foot in it. It's a great fun ,great looking car
Thanks for featuring the C4 Corvette Scotty! Seen a red, ‘87 rag top sitting in front of the Chevy dealership out here in the Bay Area. The salesman said the owner of the dealership wanted it gone. It was there for months. Got it for $9000. Previous owner was an older gentleman. 113,000 miles. I love it. Compliments everywhere I go. Top down with the California sun. 😎
Scotty, Idea for a future show. Tour the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. There is incredible rich history on display. The NCM even has a race track nearby. The plant where the new Corvette is built is close by, and sometimes has tours. Check it out. This place is below the radar for most folks.
Do you remember the massive sink hole that appeared in the middle of the museum showroom floor that swallowed a couple of classic vets. That thing was nuts what’s the chances of that happening.
When i turned 21 i went a purchased a 1986 two tone silver on black with the douge nash 4+3 manual. One of the cleanest cars ive ever had and definitely the most fun. Facebook marketplace is a fantastic spot to get one
Some Corvette fans just hated the C4 but it was my favorite body style. It was the C5 that I wasn't wild on. I would love to have a 35th Anniversary edition but those are really hard to find and usually cost a lot even if they are more than 30 years old.
Love your enthusiasm. One little problem, your info. In 1996 with the automatic, it only came with the 300hp LT1. The 6 speed manual only came with the 330hp LT4. Either way, they are great cars. I have a '94 with 80k on it and absolutely love it. I'm 50 and still take it on longer drives (3+ hours each way) and still comfy. Just trying to help keep our Corvette community not sounding like 20 year old ricers and we've all heard some of the things that they have said. Remember, get out and drive them not park them!
Some 90’s GM vehicles, when they cared to actually try hard, weren’t only good... they were great. My first car was a 1995 all black Cutlass, an absolute sweetheart. Recently bought a ‘97 for the nostalgia factor and holy s**t... it drives NICER than any of the 3 post-2010 vehicles currently in my driveway. Like butter. It actually pissed me off discovering the newer ones in the driveway are worse. Night and day difference.
Here early! That's a clean vette! Living close to The Villages, Florida i get a chance to see quite of few of these older vettes in prestine condition.
I have an 84, and it is more than enough to brighten my day when I take a drive. And as Scotty said in this episode, last year a deer ran in front of me and I clipped him with the left front corner of the car going about 40 mph. I had the targa roof off as well. The front end literally scooped him up and spun him over the car. I was trying not to go off the road and down an embankment, however I could feel his hoof brush by my head. I thought the front end would be damaged, but no, no damage at all, just some brown and white hair stuck in the opening of the headlight and a scuff on the bumper. Corvettes rock!
I have 94’ corvette, yellow with black interior. My grandfather had bought it brand new off the showroom floor in 94’. as of right now it has 11,000 original miles and is in brand new condition. Everything original.
I have a '94 and I agree w/ Scotty, that car is hella fun. It's my driver and I give it hell every time the light turns green. They once asked Jay Leno why he uses a Corvette for his driver and he said, "One time I was racing Jerry Seinfeld thru LA and he got sideways around a corner, hit a curb and did $125,000 worth of damage to his car. You can't DO $125,000 worth of damage to a Corvette."
I have a 93 with those same LED headlights. Huge improvement in visibility at night over the halogens from the 90's. Scotty's right on that C4 vettes are a lot of fun for the money. The sound of america! V8's!
Hey Scotty, Thanks for the kudos to the Corvette. I picked up 2005 with only 16K and super clean. It's a blast to drive and absolutely no buyer's regrets.
My granny had a 76 olds delta 88 royal 350 rocket. She had few wrecks before she quit driving and each wreck she was the winner. I bought the car in 92. Well made vehicle.
Scotty looking at an aftermarket chrome sill plate cover and saying its all original and none of that aftermarket junk was priceless........THAT is an aftermarket part Scotty!
I've had plenty of 99 to 01 expeditions the most minor issues ur gonna have is spark plugs blowing out the heads and coil packs going out and timing guilds waring out. Only major issue is on the higher mileage ones the overdrive Servo will come apart and all u will have is reverse and 1st and 2nd gears. So after every oil change check each spark plug make sure they are all tight. Oh almost forgot the heater cores are very bad to stop up. I have a video in my channel showing how to clean them out
Great car. I purchased a 1994 new. Sold it in 2007 with only 14,000 miles on it. Garage kept and never driven in the rain. I miss that car. Still owned by the guy I sold it to.
"There are 70 year old men that drive like lunatics too". Says Scotty Kilmer, whose intro always features him NAILING it!. No disrespect Scotty. I'm older than you, and I'm known to nail it on occasion myself. Difference is I gave up motorcycles many years ago. No guts.
I'm 71 and I still have trouble keeping that 17 year old part of me put away. Oh, by the way, I still ride the Goldwing to work every day ( when the weather permits).
My favourite Corvette is the one that was styled like a mako shark(I think). I cant remember what year, but it was an old one, probably late 60s or early 70s. Need to do some research....but classic American sports car nonetheless! Edit:just did a quick google search, the 69 Corvette was the shape that sticks in my memory. Those wheel arches....mmmmm....😍
I live in alabama. I thought my catalytic convererters were damaged so i had them removed and added a magnaflow exhaust. Gained horsepower and gas mileage. The climate has not changed since that time. Still the exact same average mean temp.
When my dad was in his 60s, he bought a Corvette. I'd come to visit from out of town and needed a car. He actually let me drive it! (Helps that I was an OTR coach bus driver.) Told me to park it in their driveway, all sorts of instructions, this was HIS baby. Okay dad, I'll call you when I get there. (This was the 80s, no cell phones). Dad had his love affairs with cars, for the longest time, he maintained 3 cars. He and mom can only drive 2 at a time! He kept them so that each of us kids would inherit one after they passed. Always a full-sized semi-luxury car, a sports car and a truck. At the time of their passing, there was a Ford Five Hundred, a Dodge Dakota and a Jaguar.
Last Feb purchased a 2004 SL500 R230 with 160K for $5000. I love the lux sprts coupe! Don't usually bring down the retractable top. I've done minimal wrenching as maintenance. Enjoying that smooth V8! Beautiful sweetheart! Definitely agree with Scotty!

Other than that we don't have traffic problems emissions really is a money grab for the state our Air Quality levels are still very good quality. Like 2 counties in the whole state required them and they have done away with those in the last 3 years because of the improved air quality with all the vehicles with Emissions systems on them and they don't pollute nearly as much. Emissions testing is only a extortion racket you have to take it to certain locations and pay them just in order to pay again to tag something you already own. A C4 Corvette, (especially an 89 and up with the Glorious ZF6 6 Speed Trans) is the pound for pound champ when it comes to fun project cars. Even the top performers like the ZR-1 and the LT4 cars can be found for under (even well under) 20k. But as we Gen Xers get older, and they remember these things hanging on their walls and being featured in music videos... and we gen Xers start to reminisce... they are starting to be scooped up. I got a 10k mile Comp Yellow LT4 car that I adore. Great video as always Scotty!
I just bought a '94 base car, in the 1953 color.....white/red interior. 149,300 miles. From an 81 year old ! $6200. The next day I purchased a set of michilen's and chrome C5 wheels.
@@lockonstratos7787 yeah $7000 I think is a rare deal for a Corvette like that for sure. But Scotty just raised the price on them though, he just gave one heck of a good advertisement lol

I had a C4 Corvette LT1 & it was one of my favorite cars I've ever had. One day I'll have a C8 Corvette
My dad has a '71 and a '67 vette. Learned to drive stick on the '71 when I turned 16. Man those are some fun cars to drive
Wait.. Scotty is praising a GM product? Holy hell, is this an alternate timeline or am I just dreaming?
Its an Old GM product.
Understand, GM, when they put their minds and minds behind something, can do well.
It’s when the corvette was at its peak
Just have a 91 base corvette 87,000 miles LOVE it at 74 years old Bad BACK hurts to get in hurts to get out But wouldn't trade it for the world.
For a 24 year old car, that Vette looks and sounds great!
My C5 got hit when it was parked, luckily not totalled, but ever sense it been in the shop has been heart breaking, miss my baby so much. :(
Here early! That's a clean vette! Living close to The Villages, Florida i get a chance to see quite of few of these older vettes in prestine condition.
Parked at the Nancy Lopez inspired golf course!
And don't you forget, sonny. FREE GOLF FOR LIFE
I made about every batch of the B side resin for the Corvette 86-96 at my plant. I did all the final adjustments to hit spec.
I've never heard Scotty say the word "fun" so many times in one video! 😆😎👍
True. My 2001 white coupe is a keeper.
I have 94’ corvette, yellow with black interior. My grandfather had bought it brand new off the showroom floor in 94’. as of right now it has 11,000 original miles and is in brand new condition. Everything original.
I love this guy, no wonder he has the biggest car channel on TH-cam.
Dear Scotty, please live beyond 90s and keep doing what you're doing forever the world needs a bright light like you to illuminate the darkness.
GO to FL for low mileage vettes all over the place . AARP certified old man car
No stay the he'll out a Fl.
I have a 2002 Corvette. It's stock and I have it fix up and it runs like a new car. I love the car.
LMAO ,Soctty says Lunatics ,then a pic of Bernie pops up ha ha ,That was awesome scotty
yep, bernie is crazy
I just bought an 87 C4 white with original paint for $7000 this video made my day! I love mine
i love corvettes!
The LS motor is the best motor ever made by GM
LS didnt come until 1997 C5. This is likely the LT4 if it's a manual car. '96 manual cars got a 330hp LT4.
@@houseofno oh dang o thought these had an LS in them
@@houseofno I think it's an auto so that would make it an LT1
I have a 93 with those same LED headlights. Huge improvement in visibility at night over the halogens from the 90's. Scotty's right on that C4 vettes are a lot of fun for the money. The sound of america! V8's!
The C5 and C6 are still expensive. Don't get me started on the last gen Pontiac GTO (Holden Commodore) prices.
Hey Scotty, Thanks for the kudos to the Corvette. I picked up 2005 with only 16K and super clean. It's a blast to drive and absolutely no buyer's regrets.
Very classic and vintage. ❤️
Wow, that thing is in phenomenal shape.. And the crystal white LEDs just make it look even better with it being silver on silver
The madman Bernie insert is priceless....that was worth 7000 dollars
3 years younger than my Ford F150. I love cars from the 90s
" ITS THE SOUND OF AMERICA " 🇺🇸
That's the flag of Liberia...
@@tanishmahamuni6553 lol i didn't noticed😂
@@tanishmahamuni6553 haha, priceless
I just bought an 89 with 50k miles. Drives amazing and I cant wait to upgrade it.
I’m 9 minutes late.
Sorry bos
You should pick a punishment for being late LOL
His company car shall be a Chrysler.
I’m 6 hours late 🤷🏽♂️
My granny had a 76 olds delta 88 royal 350 rocket. She had few wrecks before she quit driving and each wreck she was the winner. I bought the car in 92. Well made vehicle.
The c4 is one of the best generations for corvettes
I have a video in my channel showing how to clean them out
Happened to a friend of mine . The spark plug blew out.
just had a 01 f150 5.4 blow the plug and coil come apart allowing fuel to spray out and catch fire.. total loss
No guts.
Eh, not so sure that was him driving. Maybe but I'll bet he respects his customers cars.
scotty puts a picture of bernie sanders lolol
I'm 71 and I still have trouble keeping that 17 year old part of me put away. Oh, by the way, I still ride the Goldwing to work every day ( when the weather permits).
I have a 96 LT4 with 51k all stock. Bought in Fort Myers Fla. couple years ago. Fun car ,pretty quickedy. Fall in , crawl out, but fun.
The stingray?
@@labornurse hes talking about the c3 generation, which ran from 1968 until 1982
Old Corvettes are just cool! I own a ‘78 Corvette one owner 48,000 Miles Silver Anniversary! Super good condition! Reliable and sturdy!
If I find one like this one around So Fla it will go for an arm and a leg.
I just got mine here in Miami and got a great deal an 87
I live in alabama.
Emissions testing is for suckers!!! One of the major reasons I moved to Tennessee. No state inspection either.
Enjoy breathin dirty exhaust fumes do ya? Lol
Safety inspection is to prevent UNsafe cars from causing acidents
And kill someone,,is that so bad ?
@@WANDERER0070 we don't have that problem here. Tennessee isn't so populated to the point you are stuck in traffic for hours on your commute idling the worst spot in the entire state is the center of Nashville that I65,I24,I40,240 Split/Junction. Before I can even drive I have paid 5 times on the vehicle car payment if you have one, Insurance, Tags,Wheel Tax, Emissions Testing. Its ridiculous.
@@WANDERER0070 Tennessee is not Texas or California, or any other shitty overpopulated state with too many regulations.
@@mcc7762 exactly. In jersey, '95 and older is exempt. Even 2007 and older "passenger cars" between 8,501-14,000 gross weight are exempt. Only gas cars of course. As if buying/maintaining cars didn't cost enough, then they have to collect all their cute little fees on top to get something for nothing
Try to say that in our EU ;)
I’ve got a 84 and love it&
Are we all ignored the fact that that Corvette is AUTOMATIC ??????
Done. I'm out....
😂🤣😋
In big engined America cars, I prefer the automatic. Stick shift cars aren't always the best choice. The clutches are heavy and the gear linkages are clunky.
@@stuartbear922 you won’t daily drive a corvette, so for a weekend car it makes no sense to get a automatic especially when it’s that old
@@nsflarna believe it or not I actually daily drive it. I go through a decent amount of stand still traffic so Manual wouldn’t be too fun then but I plan on getting a 6 speed c4 sometime in the future
can always throw the engine out and put in a toyota 2jz engine and transmission into it
A C4 Corvette, (especially an 89 and up with the Glorious ZF6 6 Speed Trans) is the pound for pound champ when it comes to fun project cars.
What's up Scotty! I just bought a 99 Toyota Avalon XLS. $1500
hello, good choice!
F u c Toyotas
I just bought a '94 base car, in the 1953 color.....white/red interior. 149,300 miles.
From an 81 year old !
$6200. The next day I purchased a set of michilen's and chrome C5 wheels.
Now it's worth $10,000, thanks a lot Scotty, lol
every car he reviews instantly goes up in value....
scotty quit reviewing cars I like!
To be fair corvette were already 10+
@@lockonstratos7787 yeah $7000 I think is a rare deal for a Corvette like that for sure. But Scotty just raised the price on them though, he just gave one heck of a good advertisement lol
I own a 1992 c4 and have been waiting to hear Scotty's opinion on one, today is a good day lol
