      Thank you so much for speaking out against Spyglass, it's really cool to hear. What they did to Melissa Barrera is outrageous. My favorite horror movie of the year is a french one called Gueules Noires, I don't know if its going to get a US release but I highly recommend it! Incredible practical effects and really good premise. French genre cinema was very strong this year, Animal Kingdom, Vincent Doit Mourir and Vermines are really films to watch.

      Thinking that Exoricst Believer is in anyway okay is beyond me.. That film was trash from start to end, it's dreadful. I think in reality, we will never get Horrors as good as The Omen, The original Exorcist and the 3rd on in the franchise. I basically think that this generation is dumber because everything is done for them. We know to much now so we have very limited imagination. People are running out of ideas so they have to revert back to other decades like Joker, Strange Things and Fear Street 94.
      I mean the last briliant monster flick I've seen was Jeepers Creepers and the 2nd one as very good too. I thought the Conjuring was basically bordering on a bore-fest.
      I'm going to keep watching to see what films you think are very well done.

      Okay, to know that you think Scream 6 or whatever it's called is good tells me that none of your top 5 films are going to be my cup of tea. I think All the Scream films are absolute utter garbage along with The Blair Witch Project which I thought was a joke. I'm just going to have to accpet that it's going to be very hard for me to find a modern horror film that will impress me. Maybe I've seen it all already and they can't go any further with horror.

    I personally really enjoy movies like “Happy Death Day“ or “Freaky” but they have that thing where they don’t take themselves too seriously, and with “It’s a wonderful knife” I was so irritated because it was so serious (maybe except for Justin Long’s performance). And I agree that it was really bad. But I think it could’ve been so much more fun if they just went with another tone

I then rewatched it on shudder and felt like I was watching it for the first time because I had missed so much of the movie from closing my eyes in the theatre. I'm so proud of the directors behind Talk To Me, the RackaRacka boys, Aussie icons over here. My first memories of them were their Ronald McDonald horror comedy skits back when I was in high school, and seeing them with an acclaimed horror, for A24 no less, brings a tear to the eye. This reminds me of when James Wan and Leigh Whannell first made Saw. 2 Aussie boys with an idea and now look at them.

    Yeah the FNAF movie had to walk a very fine line of catering to existing video game fans but still being accessible to people going into the movie blind. I think it did a pretty good job and I LOVE how much practical effects and costumes/suits were real versus CGI. I really hope we get some more movies out of the franchise because you can really feel the passion and love that was put into it. More importantly, I hope between FNAF and the Barbie movie that studios will realize that audiences actually like being able to see what is happening in movies and enjoy colors outside of dim to dark

    Evil Dead rise is the best in the franchise, in my opinion. The creepy factor surpasses the other films. Supernatural horror usually doesnt scare me, but this movie was scary. The ending was mediocre, but so are 70% of horror movie endings. Its worth a watch.

    Surprised at your #1 given the styles and subgenres that came to the fore higher up your list but this is my first time watching your stuff, so I'm guessing you're a big fan of the franchise (not for me personally outside the first film).
    I've dropped my 10 below (starred the ones not on your list) but also wanted to list a few others not on your list that I'd highly recommend - good video and appreciate your rationale for every choice.
    My 10;
    10) It Lives Inside*
    09) Thanksgiving
    08) The Last Voyage of the Demeter
    07) Evil Dead: Rise
    06) No One Will Save You
    05) Dark Harvest*
    04) Infinity Pool
    03) Cobweb
    02) Talk to Me
    01) When Evil Lurks*****
    Additional Recommendations;
    - Little Bone Lodge (think it's called The Last Exit in the States)
    - The Royal Hotel
    - From Black
    - Malum
    - The Sacrifice Game

      Insidious: The Red Door

    Thank you for bringing more respect to Skinamarink’s name!! I love that movie SO much, yet I completely understand why it’s so polarizing (it’s not a case of quality, it’s just about personal taste). I agree with everything you said about it and now I’m gonna check if you have a full review after I leave this comment lol.
    I went into the movie completely blind and ended up being the only person in the theater. I think you can imagine how that went.

    I would like to add Nefarious as one of my top picks. I love movies with a lot of dialog. Sean Patrick Flannery did a great job at that duel role, and he stayed in character the whole way through. The movie did a great job of keeping me entertained while literally taking place in just one setting.

I don't know how interesting of a movie it would've been, but I think they should've started with fnaf 4 if they wanted the movies to be lore accurate. If that's not really what they were trying to do that's fine.

    I think "The Pope's Exorcist" should be a 2 star really. It was so painfully generic and the demon voice was Ralph Ineson who played Finchy in uk's The Office. I just couldn't take it seriously. Talk to me was pretty good and Knock at the Cabin could have had a slightly different, vaguer open ending. It was a bit too by the numbers. Apart from that, I think your list is pretty spot on!

    I kinda agree 2023 was pretty weak on the horror side. Most of the ones I really liked were only horror-adjacent at best. BEAU IS AFRAID I simply adored, even though that movie was so polarising. One that I haven’t seen anyone talk about is “Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person”, which I saw at a festival, so maybe it’s not out yet? It’s a French-Canadian romantic vampire story and it’s soooo cosy.

    I love analog horror so skinamarink is very scary, especially when i had an issue when I was a kid. I love found footage stuff like that because it seems more real than a movie that's just put together professionally. Knock at the cabin was disappointing since they changed the ending I found the book ending far more Superior and changes the way you think about things
