    @dsquebackyardbbq217 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Welcome home brother! I'm so glad that you are happy with your purchase. You make a very compelling point about the char-griller. Their akorn kamado is really nice as well and a fraction of the cost.
    Those grates are much better than the okl but the only thing that would have me still going with the longhorn is that you can go reverse flow or offset. I think that it came with a basket as well. I'll have to check for a firebox brace. That is genius. That stack is nice as well. It really side by side out checks longhorn. Way to research that out!

    • @PaulieDetmurds
      @PaulieDetmurds  ปีที่แล้ว

      And I can't speak on the reverse flow, but they cost an additional 100 dollars or so. (I know I showed a pic of the reverse flow, but I was talking about the non reverse flow Longhorn) I just looked at the websites, there are no obvious indications of a support bracket for the Longhorn. I appreciate your comment and thoughts, God Bless and thank You so much for watching!

  • @PoorGuyOutdoor
    @PoorGuyOutdoor ปีที่แล้ว +7

    First of all, congratulations! All valid points. Ya know, I got my Oklahoma Joe’s Highland for Christmas. Dawn told me to pick the one I wanted. Like you, I was all over the OKJ. “Not the long horn however “. Did my research and that Char Griller was the one I wanted. At the time it would have been over 700 bucks. And as you know, I am The PoorGuy for a reason. I ended up with the OKJ Highland because it was half the price. There is no doubt that Char Griller is superior. But I tell you what, I love mine. Paulie, I’m completely happy for you and look forward to some great stick burner videos! Oh. The PoorGuy magnet survived!!

    • @PaulieDetmurds
      @PaulieDetmurds  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I focused on the Longhorn because it is the largest offset from OKJ. In my opinion, smaller offsets are harder to maintain a good heat disbursement. Very important to me. You know I love OKJ's products, but I had no reason to pay more for less. I wouldn't go out and say Char-Griller is superior, but in this comparison, I feel it is. I love your channel, and yes your magnet is still rock'n! God Bless!

  • @jerrypredmore8793

    I researched the Oklahoma Joe reverse flow smoker and almost got one.then watched more on the grand champ XD. I bought it with some mods to assist in temp controls. I’ve been able in just a few cooks to maintain proper cooking temps and almost totally illuminate temp spikes. And come out with great smoked items. Only other smoker I would get is the one with an insulated firebox.

    I went with the Grand Champ and I am tickled to death. I spent a lot of time sealing and seasoning it. I added a chimney extension, use the ash pan as a tuning plate and lined the firebox with fire brick. This is my first offset and I’m very happy with it. I rub it down with bacon grease on every cook to keep the rust at bay.
    I picked mine up for $539 with my veteran’s discount.

    • @PaulieDetmurds
      @PaulieDetmurds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have seen these mods on YT and still trying to get a feel for it's performance. As of the reply, I did cook off some ribs, whole chicken and drumsticks in the same cook. Had some interesting results based on where I placed the food items. I purchased mine and it was selling for like $617 but I used my military discount and that took off about 60 some dollars. Welcome home! It really is a nice grill, but I was reading PoorGuys comment and I know we would never buy one. I was actually thinking I need to change my channel name to tightwad cooking 😂 cuz we always look for the cheaper. Heck, we got our grill/smoker on clearance. Cuz we don't like to pay full prices for stuff like that. Course we aren't hard core smokers either. We just do it once in a while. We're on the go a lot and it's hard to find time to smoke meats. So that would be another reason for us not to spend big bucks on one. I look forward to seeing the yummy goodnesses you will be making on that grill. I really don't want cold weather, but cooler would be great. I did notice that it was a bit cooler this morning. But I'm sure our summer here isn't over yet. Oh and here I thought the mosquito was our state bird lol.

    Congratulations on your purchase, Paulie! Everything you stated in this video are the same reasons I went with the XD. I really liked the Longhorn Reverse Flow, but it just doesn't have the surface area that the Grand Champ does. I REALLY liked the reversible smoke stack on the Longhorn, but not for $100 extra dollars. The firebox mount was a great selling point, too. I had an Okie Joe Highland, like the Poor Guy has, but gave it to my son's friend when I got my Pitt Boss 1150PS. I quickly began to miss cooking on an offset, so I went with the Grand Champ XD. I'm SO glad I did! I have a few videos of some simple mods I did on mine, so if you're interested, check them out on my channel. Rock on, brother, and thanks for your support!

      Oh,...the reverse flow costs even more. (I didn't mean to show the pic of that one). I like having the variable smoker methods with the smokers I now have.
