I’ve recently discovered Marc Bolan & I’m obsessed, I’m devouring everything I can find. One of life’s great wonders is that there’s always something to discover even if it was 40 years ago.
Well welcome aboard the deeper you go the more of Marcs Magic Spirit music connection you’ll discover I first ‘discovered’ Marcs music about 50 years ago but I still play it most weeks
1970s were amazing and I remember everything with great affection , best year for music of all bands I think was 1973 . Can't choose a best year for Marc's music , it all has it's wonderful place . Peace out.
This is an excellent interview with Toyah and Noddy ,talking about Marc Bolan , all are great along with the music of the 70s and 80s ,you can't beat it , great stuff .x. ROB.
what a great sense of humour these guys have for music celebrities, you wouldnt get this level of intelligence out of anyone from within the industry from Australia these guys are so down to earth and relatable
like many T.rex fans I didn't become a fan until he was already highly popular - I remember hearing "Get it On" and becoming a fan at age 14 it wasn't long before I owned "Electric warrior" and then all the back catalogue - I love all Marc's output and it's high Time he was given some formal recognision like a BRIT award, Tony
Beautiful scrapbook! I remember seeing him play in Oct. 1971. "Electric Warrior" tour. I was 14 years old. The girls didn't swoon over him in America as they did in England. There was no "T. Rexstacy" as American girls were hippies who had already burned their bras. Alice Cooper got me ready for the glam thing, so that didn't bother me and really T. Rex was not overly glam. Just the jackets. They sounded "heavy"! When they ended with Get IT ON, he "Got 'Em"! Never seen anything like it before or since. I have almost every available recording and demo I can get my hands on today. I had my own popular band that played all over Europe and elsewhere. I spent those years collecting the Bolan odds and ends. For a little guy, He walked TALL! Beautiful video here!
I agree with ooohcheese 1973 the best year for music EVER, TRex, Bowie as Ziggy, Slade, Sweet, Alice Cooper al dominated the singles charts but also remember Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield and Band on the Run by Wings presided over the album charts ongoing for years. 1973 - in my opinion the best ever!
Of course Marc was the first, As Noddy so rightly says, Marc was an innovator, he was copied by Wizzard, Bowie, Roxy Music, Slade and Sweet to name a few.
Hi Echovoices, Could you give me any nex info on how the Marc Bolan movie is progressing? Is there a web site that would have info on this? Tanx, Dourtan
you either haven't heard much of Bolan's output or you choose to be deaf to it - CJ, Johnny Ramone said "The KKK took my Baby away" was "Solid Gold Easy Action" Noel Galagher said "Cigerettes and Alcohol" Was "Get it On" check out the soul Gospel and Funk on the later albums as for Toyah before you write her off watch this video ... watch?v=c4s7xqntVaY
The first five albums by Tyrannosaurus rex the fith being simply called T.Rex are my favourite then it's Electric Warrior then the Slider. I have the original advertisement poster for Ride a White Swan laminated...I love Bolan's music it's a part of me until my sad demise...Rock On!
@coltsuperocean10 You're so wrong, Marc influenced Oasis, Lily Allen, Goldfrapp, the Ramones, Adam Ant, Marc Almond and too many more to list (These are just a few people who are on record as saying Marc influenced them ) BTW , The Beatles even considered T.Rex as their successors (on record) Bolan was more than the few singles which people know. Ask David Bowie what he thinks of Marc Bolan or Elton John. - Then again maybe you know more about music than any of them!
My Favorite Artist Robert Calvert was about to do a musical venture with Marc, Marc had Hawkwind on his show, that in it'self was astounding, Calvert said he also the week before nearly had a crash in the same spot
Toyah is married to Robert Fripp, who has collaborated with many greats as well as being a talented musician in his own right - Toyah herself is exuberant in her performances & where she lacks vocal excellence she makes up for in enthusiasm, Marc was the real deal, he presented the world with visions of past & future - he spanned so many Genres in his short carrier & mixed stuff up to the max - CompactJam you really don't have a clue about music and stardom if you'll write off Bolan so easily
That's interesting Fee, I was also keen on Toyah after she released "It's a Mystery" I wrote to her - (she never replied) years later I stood right behind her watching a show being made in the HTV West studios (now ITV West) - I wasn't brave enough to talk to her
Toyah (Wilcox) was a Punk she had a very hard start in life but she overcame great adversity and became a star herself - she's often involved in stage products to this day and is also married to Robert Fripp famously know for his work with King Crimson and Brian Eno but also worked with Bowie and others - Toyah is a fearless performer and you can find many videos here on youtube but this one is a particular favourite of mine th-cam.com/video/c4s7xqntVaY/w-d-xo.html
Yes I was no where near what you'd call a big Slade fan but I bought some of their singles in the 70's so I was a customer :) I spoke to Noddy Holder when he was on Talk Radio two decades ago and he recounted the Rolls Royce story where Slade ended up getting into Marcs Rolls Royce and locking the doors whilst Marc was outside of it being mobbed by teenagers all seemingly wanting a literal piece of him
Elton John seems to play piano on get it on because he was at the top of the pops gig he and Marc were good friends But it was Rick Wakeman who actually played the piano part on the single Rick was simply walking up the road Marc was passing and called out to him to ask if he'd like to play on 'get it on' Rick was doing nothing so agreed - I understand he thought any piano player could have done what he was asked to do I think he was paid £50 although I imagine he may have got more now
it's good to like different things - but you're the one trolling - if you don't want a reply don't post a comment :) and You were critical above when someone wrote LOL when they probably didn't (LOL) and I therefore must challenge your statement that you'd rather "eat my own eyeball than watch another toyah video" - enjoy your cabbage and see you on the other side if we never meet here again :)
+Mike Cadman she's not allowed to be a fan, Mike? seems a bit harsh, what about you or me Mike? are we allowed to be a fan? or would that produce the sentence "X is a fan of Marc Bolan" thereby making a sentence where your name and or mine and or Toyahs would be "X" in a sentence and therefore "mention"ed "in the same sentence"
Lets be honest, in the 70s there were so many proper bands, Marc Bolan was a little fish in a big pond. Marc Boland is the equal of someone like Chesney Hawkes or Justin Beeber. ie total fucking commercial wank!
Idiot, you even spell his name two different ways, T-Rex and Marc Bolan was a worldwide star and the King of Glam rock, he had a dozen hits or more over a ten year career, about 10 top 10s, and 4 number 1s, the only place he wasn`t that famous was the USA,(they didn`t deserve him), tying to be a clever troll, but everything you type is utter shit, he is nothing like Chesney Hawks, musically, legacy, talent, innovation, genre leading, chart success, 8 years later, are you still an utter tit?
I’ve recently discovered Marc Bolan & I’m obsessed, I’m devouring everything I can find. One of life’s great wonders is that there’s always something to discover even if it was 40 years ago.

Proper music that America didn't get.
He's incredible, a great obsession to have.
@@DukeROBRTS Think about how many artists & bands who have made careers out of trying to copy Marc Bolan.
I grew up listening to bolan, from the start until his sad end. a
God bless you mate, where ever you are, and thank you so much.
I believe Marc’s Soul is sleeping and that we’ll meet on the other side x

Is there a posthumous BRIT award? I hope so, Marc is certainly deserving. Greetings from Canada, this was a great video. My favourite is 'The Slider"

Bolan was the first after The Beatles. To 12 year olds in 1970/71, The Beatles were as distant as Bill Haley.

omg,silver satin...is there anything better? :D

shock?
Just for the record, "dive ill" refers to Dave Hill.
Toyah fascinated with Bolan then marries Fripp, two polar opposites on stage, although I do think Fripp is a lovely person in real life .
Who was the woman? We’re any of these people introduced?

@@williamwoody7607 Robert and Toyah have been married since 1986 :)
HISATdotCOM anymore that’d be remarkable in a severely religious home-it’s amazing to see entertainers pull it off.
well, put yourself in her shoes, she has a lisp, but she makes up for that with truly exuberant performances - I don't think she's a "parasite"
I don't - I'd love to see it though because I missed it
I’ve always thought Noddy was such a decent guy. Even more so now.

Slade from Wolverhampton had better songs in the 70's and beyond. Gosh, noddy is still balls deep, a yam yam.
