He seems happy, and things were looking up for Marc. He got off drugs, had a baby, lost weight, had songs charting again & his own tv show. People who were with him on his last day say he was very happy. If he had died when things were bad for him, that would've been much worse. It does make me laugh when you read how he was ravaged by alcohol & drugs at the end and ruined his looks. He looked & sounded great, and he was only 29....how fucking old & haggard can someone be at 29? Especially a man who cared about his looks! Had he lived into the 80's, he would've gotten the huge fame in America he craved: MTV came on in '81, and he was such a visual performer, he would've been huge worldwide.
+Miura Mike I agree he was before his time in the US & CAnada-they weren't ready for a flashy-rock performer who knew how to rock. They were still growing their beards & having love-in's listening to Seals & Croft & smoking their dubes. That was part of the times then, Marc was ahead of it. I have always loved Marc Bolan & T Rex but before media I didn't know what they looked like. He was so darn good looking so were the band mates & his music & that voice would just get deep into my soul, so sad he died young and beautiful & that is how we will always remember him & the other's besides Bill Legend. I can't watch or listen to anything about his death-just all the good times Marc loved.
+Patti Fearon As an American who was in junior high and high school during Marc`s popularity, I disagree with us not being ready for him. I vividly remember his music over the radio/school hallways. We also had Bowie, New York Dolls, and many others. Marc was a visual performer and had MTV been around he would have been huge here.
*@Miura Mike* ___"IF".....pigs could fly...all these things would've been so nice......but boogie boy was still tirelessly chasing the wet panty brigade ,while Bowie had already the "Berlin Trilogy" behind his back.... Perfect example to flush the coke down the drain........This 1:27 kind of "innocent" lewd behaviour is rightly so condemned lately. Marc felt too comfy in surroundings such as these ....Doesn't matter now ofcourse, he's forgiven , and became a legend for his timeless contribution to the arts.
PaulLonden that’s not really fair. Bowie had a horrible coke problem, but, fortunately, he was blessed with the time to work out his issues and reclaim his career. Marc would have done the same had he be given the time
"Barbara what's-her-name" 🤣... I love Marc, he really was just an awkward shy kid at heart. His pouting and prancing stage character was his alter ego.❤
Thank you so much for posting this. I was watching this on 3rd Sept 77 and for 36 years I've wanted to see Marc utter those words again - I luv Sally James.
Thank you for uploading this little piece of history. That looks like Linda Lewis in the room. In a recent interview Lewis stated that it was so sad that Marc was overweight and on drugs at the time of his death. Sure he had problems in 73/74 but this shows that Marc was his old self in 77 (which true fans always knew). This is why I hope they never make a movie of Marc's life as it would be based on these totally inaccurate "memories". The fans know his true story.
Andy T.Rex Marc Bolan was absolutely not on drugs and overweight at the time of his death. He’d completely gotten off drugs and had exercised and was in the best shape of his life. Look at the last episode of his TV show with David Bowie where he’s wearing tight jeans and a tight T-shirt. I don’t know whoever said that, but boy were they wrong! He was going to make a come back, for sure. I will always love him best.
Marc unfortunately died the year before I was born, however I still feel a connection with him and his music and the 70’s, almost like I should of been born before I was, maybe due to my older siblings I guess! What a shame to loose such a talent so young with still so much to offer, they say the good die young, I’d have to agree! Sitting up there on his cloud looking down, wearing his hubcap diamond star halo, RIP Marc Bolan!,
So sad but great to see him on great spirits - turned around more humble...and facing upward - but, unfortunately ...one final, unexpected event. Dude gave us ALL he had!
Marc got me into rock once I discovered the T Rex album with that top hat .So iconic and the album is a masterpiece . The later material was great but nothing compares to the folk psych with Steve Took Or beard of Stars with Mickey . Once in many lifetimes you get genius on earth . Such was Bolan .
Although despite Sally James decided to end her Saturday Scene series to work on ATV's Tiswas in Birmingham when she moved to the Midlands state, the London viewers at LWT were unable to see her again until Tiswas was finally added to their schedules on 11th November 1979, instead it was replaced by its so-called ''Our Show'' since LWT still wasn't sure about airing Tiswas quite yet (but by November 1979, that all change) in which it was hosted by children and teenagers for their young tryouts on presenting the program on Saturday mornings, and like Saturday Scene it was the another LWT Saturday morning program to be pre-recorded instead of being filmed live as usual.
That was inutterably real..which says a lot, a collection of very talented poetic souls in blurry vhs random focus, for no glory.........versus todays pin sharp piffle. go, as they say, figure.
Sweet baby and just over 3 weeks later you were taken from us. OMG love you and wonder what you would be doing now; maybe up for a lifetime achievement award like Bowie (who imho could not lace your boots). Gxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I don't understand what his issues are. So much venom there. And the topics he zones in on are always the same across his comments. They really seem to hit a nerve with him. Maybe it would do him well to take a look at that.
Yeah Paul Nicholas - quick summary - he starred in Jesus Christ Superstar, played school bully cousin in 'Tommy' (The Who Movie), had a few dodgy chart successes and starred in a very popular tv series "Just Good friends" in the 80's.
The eternal wet panty brigade chaser felt so comfy in such surroundings . Why is there no such >1:27< footage of The Stones, Beatles or Bowie ? Why is such charming behaviour condemned these days ? Who was that bigfoot behind Sally ?
Sneer all you like. People are still watching this because the title includes Marc Bolan in it in 2020...the year he is recognised by the Rock and Roll Hall of fame....Loser.
@@saxa21 Sure , I love him too ,(till about 1974). Only had issues with his "Fat Elvis" period. No one can be brilliant all of the time. Although there are many who would readily state that his mid 70's period was essential Bolan , and feel highly offended if one dares to question it .
@@PAULLONDEN You are correct no artist can be great forever but Bolan 3 or 4 year greatness surpasses nearly everyone in british music not based on record sales purely. I am glad you mentioned Bowie his reputation is based on albums to 1980. What about 1980 to 2016 I will give you only 1 album Black star. That is a long period of rust. So Bolan did it in 4 no rust.
People say Marc & his music was way ahead of its time ... I agree
Listen to it it in 2021 ............ it still is
What an amazing piece of film. He looked fit as well. He was getting his life back, which was tragically taken away at such a young age.

Marc had just released his comeback album “Dandy in the Underworld” in 1977. I remember feeling very sad when he suddenly passed.

In the public yes but during the not so great days behind the scenes he cried alot and had many breakdowns must have been tough!

Marc Bolan and Roger Taylor in one room. I know those cameras caught fire😂😂😂
Didn’t see much of Roger Taylor…. the guy hanging off Marc’s neck is English actor Paul Nicholas….
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
Marc is drinking to that up in heaven.
@AshtonArcher Marc was recording an episode of the "Marc" show in the same studio and "crashed" the party. Ain't no show without Mister Bo.
Marc was so friendly sometimes !!!

Brilliant thanks for posting this! Was Marc performing on this show, or just being interviewed to promote his own show?
Sally looks gorgeous!
Gloria Jones mid-screen at 0:36?
That is singer Linda Lewis. She sort of resembles Gloria.
Looks like Linda Lewis
Her starring role and claim to fame came 3 weeks later.
Hey the Heatwave dudes are in the party, cool!
Quite ironic the show finished with We'll meet again, 13 days later Marc died !
And his paramour Linda Lewis.
@AshtonArcher I don't know maybe he was only backstage to celebrate the last show presented by Sally James.
So Marc didnt play? Or is there footage of the rest or the show? Or more than just the outro?
Rod Temperton the best songwriter ever

Wow I’m sweating 😓
Who is the dude with his arm around Marc? He's getting rather close! LOL
@Bad Lieutenant It is.
Paul Nicholas
Pity they didnt spell his name correctly 😢
@andytrex You're definitely right there!
The Asian looking guy who says "If I was younger I would also love Sally James", is that 1970's record producer Biddu?.
It's Carl Wayne

If Gloria was just a better driver.
No, if she (and him) had drunk less…. right…. this was 1977 after all, when drinking and driving was more common and acceptable
@noizefeeler2 i was that thinking too
Bolan the groper
