Still got my T.Rex scarf from Wembly 1972! I live in small town n people think I'm nuts but sometimes I'll get out my brown n gold sequined jacket n go out in it. Those old 70's days were tough for kids n Marc brought a whole new dimension to music that made so many of us soo happy . Music was fun n that love of music has stayed with me all my life. Thanx Marc!!!!
I would love to see a "Classic Albums" where Visconti goes through Electric Warrior. That really was an awesome step up from the previous album simply called T.Rex.
I loved T-Rex since I was 10 years old and they were really big in the UK. I still love listening to Marc Bolan & T-Rex...unique music, amazing poetry and songs that always bring shivers down my spine. My love for them is still with me today. 'universe reclining in her hair cause she's my babe' laaa laaa laaa laaa
Ride a White Swan blasted from the Clough Fair Speedway across to our estate in North Manchester in 1970, on a 12 minute repeat, driving our parents madddddd! I fell in love with it then, and I’m in love with it now. Your comment is from 2 years back but the feeling is still so real in me I just wanted to shout out and connect like we were kids again. Love that energy!
@@robertpepper5256 Yes, T-Rex still brings such nostalgic vibes with me too and they are such a unique band, no other group resonates as this one (for me). He was ahead of his time although his life was cut short, his songs will live long.
Listen to Mambo Sun from Electric Warrior. Tony Visconti gets the strings to copy Marc Bolan's guitar parts at the end of the song, including the bends. This is the first and only time you will hear this.
Theres also a piece from a documentary somewhere I think, where Tony Visconti talks about the making of Ride A White Swan, and how part of the backing was recorded in the toilets at Trident Studios because of the acoustics.
Why do T.Rex documentary makers so often insist that T.Rex singles became formulaic and repetitive? T.Rex singles were in several different keys and always totally different than the previous record, for everyone to see and hear, obviously. Back in the 70s you were always wondering what Marc Bolan was going to come up with next. So stop doing that documentary people, it just means you don't know your subject at all.
I guess this narrator wasn't hip enough for futuristic dragon, zip gun, and dandy in the underworld. He said his hits got formulaic. His album sure didn't. He kept progressing.
Think the documentary was a BBC one from the mid 90s called Dancing In The Streets. This particular clip was from an episode subtitled Hang On To Yourself. There is also an out take of Tony Visconti talking about the recording of Ride A White Swan which didn't make the final episode.
Bolan's singles never really were 'formulae', as none of them sounded like the one before. But some of them (from mid-'73 on) were indeed quite repetitive. He became bored and annoyed of his 'teenage girl hero' image, and he fought with alcohol and drug abuse. So he increasingly let it slide, before he kind of recovered from 1976 on. But of course it never was the same as 1971/1972 again.

He never gets any older
Classic. Thanx Mr. Visconti. It didn’t became repetitive! Nonsense.
I could make a decent case for Hot Love being the perfect pop single.

Where and when is this from - I'm guessing a bigger documentary series perhaps? My guess (judging by Tony's hair) is between 92 and 95. A BBC doc?

What's the name of this documentary? I'm a huge glam rock fan and would love to watch a documentary on it.
There are several on TH-cam now. Hope you find what you want! Bolan 4-ever 🤗💞
