      I'm truly amazad that people in Britain are only realising this now - after the election.
      The same is happening in Germany ( my country)where many people voted for the SPD (the so called Social Democrats) uninformed folk, who voted for the SPd because they are called Social democrats. The same applies to the German Greens who have nothing to do with Green anymore.

      I was a Liberal Democrat because where I lived when much younger they and the SDP/Liberal Alliance before it stood more chance of winning there than Labour did. Then it became a habit to vote for them. But I moved to a constituency where Labour stood more chance of winning than the Liberal Democrats. The Liberal Democrats could only win council and Welsh assembly seats where I live. Then they formed a coalition with the Conservatives so couldn't vote for them anymore. Now they have moved to the left again with Ed Davey as leader.

      @@nazb1982 One enormous difference is that, thanks to the mismanagement of the economy over the past 14 years, this Government has far, far less money at its disposal than Cameron ever had.
      And, thanks to the madness of Brexit and the knee-capping of trade links to a huge market on our doorstep, Starmer has fewer options with which to generate economic recovery, let alone economic growth.
      Of course, Corbyn and Macdonnell were secretly in favour of Brexit, and did their best to undermine the Remain campaign, despite nominally (and hypocritically) being part of it.

      Even the Liberal Democrats didn't do as badly when in Government as they were in a coalition. There were only around 50 Lib Dem MPs compared with around 300 Conservative MPs so they weren't going to have much say in Government policy between 2010 and 2015. Labour have no other party to blame but themselves.

      Owen Jones is not a patriot. He's spent the majority of his career condemning "populism" and, mocking the British working class.
      He is right with a lot of his criticism of the current government but, he was amongst the many to pave the way for such an uncaring, authoritarian government.

    Several dozen labour MPs need to resign their posts and start an avalanche of by elections . Then they can start their own party .
    80% of the electorate didn’t vote for this black comedy clown show . Starmer and the Daleks must resign .
    The unions must stop funding labour now , and go on strike for the pensioners .

    I don't understand why anyone would have voted for Labour in the first place.
    To me personally, it has been as plain as the nose on your faces what Starmer was about.
    Oh well, we can all now suffer together.

      Half a million fewer voters voted Labour in the 2024 election than did for Labour in tge last one on 2019 under Jeremy Corbyn who, far from winning a landslide, *lost* the election.
      Starmer actually lost Labour votes!
      Labour are in power because the Conservative vote collapsed.
      The number of votes cast for the Tories + Reform taken together was 4% greater than Labour's popular vote. Under electoral systems of most other countries, Labour would not be governing today.

    I'm a pensioner (and Labour Party member... still...).and during the election campaign I was bombarded with emails from Labour asking for financial contributions. I made a number of (small, because I'm a pensioner) contributions and I'm now completely gobsmacked by the amount of wealthy donors etc donating all kinds of stuff to Starmer etc. The bad taste in my mouth is getting worse. I may yet resign... So disappointed so far...
