Tell me about it, I love brutality in music, which is part of the reason why I love Opeth. But the duality in their music is what makes it special. What they do comes together perfectly and transcends either the delicacy or the brutality present in each of their songs. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Even Heritage, without any heavier, brutal elements is still a work of brilliance. You can't just like death metal, you have to like MUSIC.
When Opeth last played here in Tucson, while playing Devil's Orchard there is a pause in the song, and during the pause all the lighting cut off except a single light over Mikaels face where he just made a :I face, then when the song resumed all the lights came back on. It was hilarious.
I was there man, it was my first Opeth show ever, it was fucking AMAZING!!! There show showed me how the stage lights should be used :) Also I was next to the guy that "yelled stop teasing us Mikael" at 3:26 :( Yeah some fans are annoying, but don't let that ruin the show, but believe me it won't! :) n/
I think indoor concerts have an atmosphere that's way different than outdoor or festival concerts. Indoor is much more intimate and you'll more of an emotional connection while outdoors is more like 'yeah, let's go have a party'. Know what I mean? xD Festival feel is nice, but when a band is touring and your coming for a certain band to a show, than I would prefer it indoors. Just my feeling though :p
he is brilliant and eloquent beyond comprehension of most. i think he makes jokes to offset his irritation with the insolent drunks. however, most of the insolent drunks buy his albums and go to his shows. a catch 22 indeed.
My thoughts exactly. All people hear is the screams and the distortion. Never the jazz and 70's influence of Opeth. Just enjoy the songs quietly, and appreciate the sound.
No prob. Bill Kelliher was hanging out on the stage too for Ghost. Masodon's encore was Creature Lives with guys from Opeth and some of the hooded guys from Ghost in the chorus with roadies, fans, family. It is great to see bands get along and have fun.
At some point - because of all the people near me screaming "play some real metal" and just generally bitching - I screamed out "PLAY THE NEXT SONG ON YOUR SET LIST!". But I don't think you can hear it on this video.
I can understand your point of view. But, the other side of that is...many people heard The Moor, or Godhead's Lament for the first time...or maybe When from My Arms Your Hearse...that was a life changing experience...it melded acoustic beauty with face-shattering metal. I, like a lot of other Opeth fans search for that feeling. Damnation and anything off of heritage just won't cut it.
Someone knows what he plays at 2:08? He plays the exact same thing at another in-between songs on the roundhouse tapes or damnation DVD's, can't remember which.
I believe outdoor-concerts are held almost as often as indoor-concerts. There's just a certain freedom to it because you're not limited by the size of a venue. Also, it has a certain festival-feel to it, don't you think? Or maybe the roadies just goofed! I don't know xD
They should consider dropping all that noise between these rants and monologues! We don't wanna hear Lars Ulrich play, we want to hear Lars Ulrich talk! Also sprach Lars Ulrich
While I understand what you mean. You must understand that half of their material is metal and it shouldn't be a surprise that people want to hear that side of Opeth. I myself was sad when mikael personally responded to my statement "Let me hear them beautiful growls!" with "I haven't growled in about 6 months." Don't get me wrong, I would love to hear To Rid the Disease but I'd also want to hear By The Pain I See In Others. But yeah the fans can be annoying...
It's called having a good time. It's a fucking concert. There's going to be yelling and cheering. Would you rather the fans all just stand in one spot and not move or make any noise whatsoever? Do you really think the band would like that?
How long have you listened to Opeth? Opeth has done 7/10 progressive death metal records. They still play death metal music, what do you expect? Obviously there are much more to their music, but Opeth is Opeth, and a part of opeth is death metal. . All though i also hate the loudy crowds...
Saw them a year earlier, right after the Heritage release, at Center Stage, but I missed this show. Pissed, because the earlier show was ALL clean vocals. Never got really heavy.
I honestly don't think those people are actual fans. If they knew Opeth, they wouldn't screaming like idiots asking them to play metal the entire time.
I know. It's really freaking annoying. I'm surprised at the type of people it attracts. Probably the same that hate Heritage because it's not enough like Orchid.
OK madnis, have it confirmed that you are a Bad Person. All that teasing- not funny. Was basically sitting there, comon guys, do it already, i want you so badly (at least your music), but you left me there in my knees beging. As he was like this Songs about demons i just wanted that song, but you are a Bad Person. Now im here, laying in the floor crying. Its all your fault. Just a single riff. Would it habe been so hard?
''And I'm Lars. Ulrich.''
Give this man an Oscar.
Give this oscar a man
even funnier because Mikael's actual first name is Lars
Oscar this man a give.
Lars Ulrich: *sends lawyer to Sweden*
@@blppt LOL! 🤣🤣🤣
this guy is insanely talented and fucking hilarious.

Yes he does.
8:21 Mikael: Also wanna say "thank you" to: say tune
Crowd: Tune!!!
I wonder if there's even one drop of water on earth that hasn't been filtrated through some mammal's digestive system at any point.
hard to say but maybe in some region of the deep sea where life can't exist and the water never leaves the region
underground water
I love this train of thought
Considering mammals have existed for 200+ million years, seems unlikely.
That guitar he was holding at first is pretty as fuck. These cravings Michael's giving me aren't good for my student economy.
AAAAhhh, there's footage of this! Yes! I was second row the whole time during their set. This part was adorable.

"Demons" lmao
I could swear that guy who yells "I love you Michael" is the same guy who was at Red Rocks at the beginning of "Ghost of Perdition".
mikael speaks...and the world listens
1:31 brann dailor from mastodon lmaooo
Serenity Painted Death
Mikael:"We´re Opeth" Crowd:"Wuhuuuuuuhu YEAH I LOVE YOU MIKAEL" xD
There is no Mikael here He is Mr. Lars. Ulrich.
Mikael's first name is Lars, Mikael is actually his middle name, but because of his metal connection he said Lars Ulrich XD.
Serenity Painted Death tease at 5:10
0:48 "YOU SEXY SON OF A BITCH"
I want to be an Opeth roadie :p
No prob. Bill Kelliher was hanging out on the stage too for Ghost. Masodon's encore was Creature Lives with guys from Opeth and some of the hooded guys from Ghost in the chorus with roadies, fans, family. It is great to see bands get along and have fun.
Such a great frontman!
Åkerfeldt is awesome.
At some point - because of all the people near me screaming "play some real metal" and just generally bitching - I screamed out "PLAY THE NEXT SONG ON YOUR SET LIST!". But I don't think you can hear it on this video.
I WAS HERE
concentrating on Mendez' face while he's talking brings another level to this
I will gladly claim Mikael as Sweden’s pride
haha thank you!.... Mikael is a genius.
Wow, the Harlequin Forest riff... what a tease lol
Mikael is my favourite human on this Earth. So genuine and loves the crowd!
Great song title!

We don’t wanna hear Lars Ulrich play, we want to hear him rant on stage! XD
yessss I was at this show!!!!
Well, on second look, you are indeed absolutely correct, my friend.
"Swedish folk music, because we're from Sweden and we're folks"? LOL
Someone knows what he plays at 2:08? He plays the exact same thing at another in-between songs on the roundhouse tapes or damnation DVD's, can't remember which.
Wrong, that was the drummer from Mastodon, Brann Dailor goofing around. I was at the show. Brann hung out near the stage for Ghost, kept popping up.
2:13 A little bit of scarborough fair?
If I were a women I would be in love of Mikael hahaha
Gay and bi people exists
@@shitmultiverse1404 but he isnt lol
i am
Or if I were gay too haha ;)
@@momi1carlos he's back! 👏
well said brother
0:04 me too bro, me too lmao
In my opinion fans cling on to what they love most. and in this case it is metal, not the "new age" opeth. but i still love them all in all. \m/
That he is.
They also shouted that they love Mikael
you can tell they're hot as fuck in the Atlanta heat.
Nice audio and video quality.
5:11 ...Mikael Akerfeldt - Best troll ever.
Anyone find it funny that the lighting guy is also named Martin?
I believe outdoor-concerts are held almost as often as indoor-concerts. There's just a certain freedom to it because you're not limited by the size of a venue. Also, it has a certain festival-feel to it, don't you think? Or maybe the roadies just goofed! I don't know xD
I assume the other guys in the band are used to the many eccentricities of Mr Åkerfeldt's stage presence.
They should consider dropping all that noise between these rants and monologues! We don't wanna hear Lars Ulrich play, we want to hear Lars Ulrich talk! Also sprach Lars Ulrich
Was there something wrong with the venue? Or is that the venue? just a stage outdoors? :p
the concert was outdoors? how come?
on the drum and cymbal... mr .axe... hehehe
Takes a drink of water, then points at it. Calmly speaks "That is distilled piss."
DEMONS

Please tell me someone punched the guy yelling "Free Bird!"
Was it raining or something? Mikael looks really cool with his hair all wet and messed up though.
did i hear a dog at 1:51? Also, Brann!!!!
Who the heck wrote this subtitles? You haven't really trained this before, did you?!
I saw a yellow shirt and automatically thought he was part of the crew lol
That's were the stage was set up. Not much to do there :P Ahudr
He wasn't... it was his own sound guy, he was joking about throwing him out.
1:06 stoned Mendez face
It's called having a good time. It's a fucking concert. There's going to be yelling and cheering. Would you rather the fans all just stand in one spot and not move or make any noise whatsoever? Do you really think the band would like that?
Mikael was joking, that was Brann Dailor. If he got thrown out Mastodon wouldn't be able to play.
How long have you listened to Opeth?

So what was the satan song...?

4:36 "And I'm Lars Ulrich" WTF?!?

LOL guy a 2:13 'Shut the fuck up!'
Err Serenity Painted Death? lol
Is it a concert of guys just tuning their instruments ??? :P
haha. Somewhere out there a bible-belt priest is watching this and thinking "I KNEW it!"
