He's quick to sacrifice himself against Zabuza, trying to command the kids to run away, but doesn't even consider that Zabuza would just chase them down and kill them after dealing with him. He doesn't put his faith in Naruto and Sasuke's abilities because as far as he's concerned, they're just a bunch of snot-nosed genin who can't even get along with each other, let alone actually form a cohesive strategy together to fight a superior opponent. This suggests a lack of knowledge and understanding of his own students, which further is built on later. Kakashi also frequently shows up late to team meetings early in the series; it's played as a running gag that turns out to have significant meaning because it's symbolic of the fact that he can't move on from the past to look toward the future. He doesn't see Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura as themselves, but rather as representations of his past; mistakes that he needs to fix, and so he actually takes quite a long time to actually get his shit together and start understanding them properly. He fails to convince Sasuke to stay in the village because he treats Sasuke like himself, and talks to him like Naruto would talk to him, basically trying to be his own Obito, in a sense. He does this instead of using his common past with Sasuke to really empathize with him and address the core issue, instead basically just telling him "it's in the past. Let it go", when he himself has yet to let go of his own past. It's very obvious hypocrisy and I feel like that's the point. TLDR, Kakashi does develop. It just isn't as blatant as Naruto's and Sasuke's because Kakashi is already halfway there, but missing an important piece to the puzzle that seeing team 7 develop gives him to help complete his own journey. His decision to kill Obito in their fight is his way of showing that he has truly accepted his past and is willing to make a tough, even impossible decision, to help his student build a proper future. However it is this decision to kill Obito that ultimately separates him from Naruto and shows that he isn't just a clone of Naruto's ideology, because even in his most 'complete' version of himself, he still doesn't understand Naruto's ideology, and doesn't quite embody the values he's tried to impart onto team 7. It's why in the end it wasn't Kakashi who saved Obito's soul, but Naruto, himself. And it's for that same reason that Naruto is able to save Sasuke where Kakashi fails; because Naruto embodies the values that Kakashi taught, but could not do in their entirety.
I think he makes a really good point with the "copied over 1000 jutsu" hype. He doesn't nearly as much as 1000 jutsu throughout the series, and I don't even think he uses more than 100 at most. Of course the majority of them could be ass, kind of like you said, but if that's the case, then what's the utility in bringing that up? How is that bringing that up supposed to be useful to establish the character's knowledge and experience, other than he gained a lot of experience with the Sharingan's copy function?
The Sharingan copies more then Ninjutsu it copies all Jutsu which would include every Taijutsu move he does every Kenjutsu every Shurikenjutsu goes toward the 1'000 jutsu
Honestly as far as I'm concerned kakashi and hiruzen failed Sasuke so miserably. They really sat back and watched his trauma and suffering for the longest time and did nothing to at least try and help. The moment kakashi stepped in it was too late, especially considering hed taught him chodori as well. Now i know hiruzen couldn't reveal the secrets of the Uchiha massacre for obvious reasons but letting Sasuke stay in the same house is pretty diabolical. Cause like think about it, even with his whole clan gone he still lived on the outskirts of the village

It’s part destiny, part not. Neji was right in the sense Naruto and Sasuke were destined to be the reincarnates and fight, but they defied part of that destiny by becoming friends.

Naruto still proved him wrong because Neji thought everything that is destined cannot be changed. However Naruto did just that by breaking the cycle of hatred started by his and Sasuke's previous lives. Therefore Neji was wrong.

And I'm pretty sure he said Sanji would low-diff Kizaru and that's just fucking laughable. Characters like Akainu and Kizaru are *not* going to get low-diffed. I'll say that with near 100% certainty.

He made some really good points though. I love Kakashi, probably in my top 5 favourite characters in Naruto. However, I do agree that he caught the Naruto reskin syndrome down the line...I get that he needed more development and it worked for him, but by that point we'd already seen the same process play out with others time and time again and I understand how it may have felt flat or boring to some fans. He is cool, tragic and all that but he never displayed experience as a teacher who had a tragic backstory. There were hints but no real action besides his reputation as "copy ninja" among his peers. Why didn't he ever share his past with his students? Students he knew would eventually follow the same trend as he did, he knew Sasuke's past and Naruto's burden yet all he did was train them to become fighters and that's it. When he did encounter Sasuke, he only made things worse. It's true. As a character, he's the "best" if you only focus on Obito. Obito's greatness made him appear much better, and because by that time we'd long forgotten the early parts of Naruto, nobody considered how poorly he managed a mere 3 students having gone through a similar past as they were facing at the time. You can love something and still criticise it, it's not always "hate". Although, I can't speak for KoL in that regard, only myself. I love Kakashi(flaws and all) but I definitely won't say he's like "the greatest character" in Naruto, in my opinion even Jiraiya had more depth to him than Kakashi did(and he wasn't around that long).
That’s the point of his character. It’s completely normal he didn’t share his past because at that point it still haunted him. He has flaws, obviously the objectively correct thing would be to share, but that’s using the power of hindsight.

Even Orochimaru has better judgement and this is due to him using the knowledge of his past experiences to influence the youth. Did it with Sasuke, Kabuto and all the other sound village kids. Although bad or selfish, his intentions were very clear from the start and he understood that honesty was the key to getting though to misguided youth, and it worked. Obito as well. That's the point though, somehow the "bad guys" always draw the best conclusions based on their own pasts while the good guys mostly try their best to absolutely hide their pasts even if that decision is detrimental to others they care about. I get it. I see the vision Kishimoto had with his characters' ideals/philosophy and all that, but while it was mostly good, at times it did ruin things. There were just 2 extremes, good because "friends" bad because "no friends" and that's about it. This heavily impacted Itachi, Minato, Nagato and even Madara. All their backstories had holes in them that just couldn't be ignored, and they're there because of the 2 extremes he placed every character in. You're either a Naruto type character or a Gaara type character. This works for most of the series until you feel like everyone is in some ways becoming one of these 2. And it begins to feel as though you've seen the same fight over and over again, just with higher stakes and different circumstances. Itachi didn't have to become a killer, neither did Nagato, Obito or even Madara. They are in some ways the same guy in different skins with a bit of nuance here and there. Kakashi also falls into this category, he goes from Sasuke to Naruto and back to Sasuke and then he finally finds himself. Essentially, he was playing roles the whole series until the very end when he came to terms with reality. That's why I love him, the fact that he found himself in all that turmoil(kinda like Zuko in a way) but the steps that led to that great outcome were overused, I think that's a fair criticism to make.

Many of these point came just from the state of the community at the time. Many people who grew up with these shows looked back at them for the first time and realized that shonen isn't realistic and didn't at the time go at it with the mindset that these storries are for teenagers/kids and trying to give them good morals/lessons. What he says later though about kakashi beeing a bad teacher i tottaly agree with. I just rewatched the series and kakashi well at first he ditched naruto before his fight with neji to only train sasuke. Later when the sound four take sasuke he isn't theire or to late to safe him even tough we later learn that he lost his teammates caus minato his teacher wasn't there to safe them. While u can explain away the first point it was just objectively bad of him not keeping taps on his students during the timeskip. Even tough naruto was training with jiraiya he could have at least checked in on him once a year and even worse sakura who was in the same village as him got totaly neglegted. When they do the belltest again at the start of shippuden kakashi is so surprised by the things she could do that u know he didn't look after her at all. Sasuke his favorite student got taken by orochimaru and it is never even implied that kakashi tried to check if he was even still alive or if his body got taken over. While i think that was most likely just a writting oversight then what his character would actually do u can't deny that it doesn't shine a good light on him as a caretaker and role model. Since jiraiya did the same thing with nagato and his group u could argue that this is consistent within the world though as it is never adressed by any character i would say it is more then likely just a flaw in writting considering how much value seams to be placed in the relationship between the students and theire teachers throughout the story.

His decision to kill Obito in their fight is his way of showing that he has truly accepted his past and is willing to make a tough, even impossible decision, to help his student build a proper future. However it is this decision to kill Obito that ultimately separates him from Naruto and shows that he isn't just a clone of Naruto's ideology, because even in his most 'complete' version of himself, he still doesn't understand Naruto's ideology, and doesn't quite embody the values he's tried to impart onto team 7. It's why in the end it wasn't Kakashi who saved Obito's soul, but Naruto, himself. And it's for that same reason that Naruto is able to save Sasuke where Kakashi fails; because Naruto embodies the values that Kakashi taught, but could not do in their entirety.

I think he makes a really good point with the "copied over 1000 jutsu" hype. He doesn't nearly as much as 1000 jutsu throughout the series, and I don't even think he uses more than 100 at most. Of course the majority of them could be ass, kind of like you said, but if that's the case, then what's the utility in bringing that up? How is that bringing that up supposed to be useful to establish the character's knowledge and experience, other than he gained a lot of experience with the Sharingan's copy function?

Honestly as far as I'm concerned kakashi and hiruzen failed Sasuke so miserably. They really sat back and watched his trauma and suffering for the longest time and did nothing to at least try and help. The moment kakashi stepped in it was too late, especially considering hed taught him chodori as well. Now i know hiruzen couldn't reveal the secrets of the Uchiha massacre for obvious reasons but letting Sasuke stay in the same house is pretty diabolical. Cause like think about it, even with his whole clan gone he still lived on the outskirts of the village

Naruto still proved him wrong because Neji thought everything that is destined cannot be changed. However Naruto did just that by breaking the cycle of hatred started by his and Sasuke's previous lives. Therefore Neji was wrong.

There's a valid argument to be made that no admiral would be able to 1v1 Kaido. And I do believe that, as of now, Luffy has finally surpassed the admirals. But the gap isn't *that* big. And I'm pretty sure he said Sanji would low-diff Kizaru and that's just fucking laughable. Characters like Akainu and Kizaru are *not* going to get low-diffed. I'll say that with near 100% certainty.

He made some really good points though. I love Kakashi, probably in my top 5 favourite characters in Naruto. However, I do agree that he caught the Naruto reskin syndrome down the line...I get that he needed more development and it worked for him, but by that point we'd already seen the same process play out with others time and time again and I understand how it may have felt flat or boring to some fans.
He is cool, tragic and all that but he never displayed experience as a teacher who had a tragic backstory. There were hints but no real action besides his reputation as "copy ninja" among his peers. Why didn't he ever share his past with his students? Students he knew would eventually follow the same trend as he did, he knew Sasuke's past and Naruto's burden yet all he did was train them to become fighters and that's it. When he did encounter Sasuke, he only made things worse. It's true.
As a character, he's the "best" if you only focus on Obito. Obito's greatness made him appear much better, and because by that time we'd long forgotten the early parts of Naruto, nobody considered how poorly he managed a mere 3 students having gone through a similar past as they were facing at the time.
You can love something and still criticise it, it's not always "hate".
Although, I can't speak for KoL in that regard, only myself. I love Kakashi(flaws and all) but I definitely won't say he's like "the greatest character" in Naruto, in my opinion even Jiraiya had more depth to him than Kakashi did(and he wasn't around that long).
That’s the point of his character. It’s completely normal he didn’t share his past because at that point it still haunted him. He has flaws, obviously the objectively correct thing would be to share, but that’s using the power of hindsight.
@@sirnetflix7162 and it's hindsight that makes it bad for many. Because it's only hindsight for us the reader/viewer but to Kakashi it was an opportunity that he missed several times.
Even Orochimaru has better judgement and this is due to him using the knowledge of his past experiences to influence the youth. Did it with Sasuke, Kabuto and all the other sound village kids. Although bad or selfish, his intentions were very clear from the start and he understood that honesty was the key to getting though to misguided youth, and it worked.
Obito as well. That's the point though, somehow the "bad guys" always draw the best conclusions based on their own pasts while the good guys mostly try their best to absolutely hide their pasts even if that decision is detrimental to others they care about.
I get it. I see the vision Kishimoto had with his characters' ideals/philosophy and all that, but while it was mostly good, at times it did ruin things. There were just 2 extremes, good because "friends" bad because "no friends" and that's about it.
This heavily impacted Itachi, Minato, Nagato and even Madara. All their backstories had holes in them that just couldn't be ignored, and they're there because of the 2 extremes he placed every character in. You're either a Naruto type character or a Gaara type character. This works for most of the series until you feel like everyone is in some ways becoming one of these 2. And it begins to feel as though you've seen the same fight over and over again, just with higher stakes and different circumstances.
Itachi didn't have to become a killer, neither did Nagato, Obito or even Madara. They are in some ways the same guy in different skins with a bit of nuance here and there. Kakashi also falls into this category, he goes from Sasuke to Naruto and back to Sasuke and then he finally finds himself. Essentially, he was playing roles the whole series until the very end when he came to terms with reality. That's why I love him, the fact that he found himself in all that turmoil(kinda like Zuko in a way) but the steps that led to that great outcome were overused, I think that's a fair criticism to make.

Many of these point came just from the state of the community at the time. Many people who grew up with these shows looked back at them for the first time and realized that shonen isn't realistic and didn't at the time go at it with the mindset that these storries are for teenagers/kids and trying to give them good morals/lessons.
What he says later though about kakashi beeing a bad teacher i tottaly agree with. I just rewatched the series and kakashi well at first he ditched naruto before his fight with neji to only train sasuke. Later when the sound four take sasuke he isn't theire or to late to safe him even tough we later learn that he lost his teammates caus minato his teacher wasn't there to safe them.
While u can explain away the first point it was just objectively bad of him not keeping taps on his students during the timeskip. Even tough naruto was training with jiraiya he could have at least checked in on him once a year and even worse sakura who was in the same village as him got totaly neglegted. When they do the belltest again at the start of shippuden kakashi is so surprised by the things she could do that u know he didn't look after her at all. Sasuke his favorite student got taken by orochimaru and it is never even implied that kakashi tried to check if he was even still alive or if his body got taken over.
While i think that was most likely just a writting oversight then what his character would actually do u can't deny that it doesn't shine a good light on him as a caretaker and role model.
Since jiraiya did the same thing with nagato and his group u could argue that this is consistent within the world though as it is never adressed by any character i would say it is more then likely just a flaw in writting considering how much value seams to be placed in the relationship between the students and theire teachers throughout the story.
It's almost like Kakashi is really depressed after having killed him teammate and his father shamed into suicide. He had to break out of that pit.
