The words that flash quickly on the screen: "where is my body" "who took my body" "where is my body" "let me out" "give it back" "welcome to the future" "do not try reconnecting with your former vessel" "it is no longer needed and will be disposed of shortly :)"
Obviously everyone can and will interpret this song differently but I kinda got the feeling that the flower represents a kind of childhood innocence, especially of those of us who grew up without much technology (particularly the older half of gen z). These individuals grew up with a simple, idealistic view of the world similar to the life that the flower reflects upon in the first half of the song. Additionally, the flower being forcibly uploaded to the computer seems to mirror how this generation was thrust into the digital age with the resulting effects of phone dependency, social media addiction, and general depression. (These effects of course progressed and became more dire with the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent quarantine). During my second listen/watch, I could practically feel my inner child screaming along with the flower in the final section “give it back” “let me out”. Wow. Just wow. This is an absolute masterpiece, I’m obsessed (also apologies for the unsolicited mini-essay, just finished writing a college paper and I guess my brain is still in school mode :)
@@moony3335 I’m pretty sure it’s on the tv near the end! I also saw it earlier, just make sure you look closely! Also, I think it’s just text, not part of the song!!
The flower gliches the most when listing things that a flower should have no way of knowing, like "rake", "glove", "shovel" and "lemonade for all". There's also the significant raise in pitch at the transition from "snapdragon" to "wagon"...
My favorite part is when it says "miss myyy... cornerr of sunligghhtt" i love it, its such a contrast from the screamming rage to just realization and depression. Very pretty love the song sm
Listening to the dying thoughts of a decapitated flower, recounting the simple pleasures of life in the garden, asking why it cant be happy under that sunlight again. Beautiful and macabre. Really thought provoking. A work of art. Loving the journey. Far from bored
my interpretation of this song: this song is about being trapped in your own body, and feeling like your world is limited and you can only know so much. the words "no need to think, just repeat what you know" shows how this little flower is trapped in almost like a cult where you can only believe and see one thing, but it possabley really it is just his own mind. as someone with depression and anxiety this really resonates with me, the feeling of being trapped in your own thoughts and having a hard time thinking your own clear thoughts. when the flower says things like "sunlight" you can see he almost changes, as if knowing that is something more outside of his head. your song have helped me through a lot of rough times, and you deserve so much more love for the art you create. i cant wait to see what you do next but in the mean time i will enjoy the lifegiving melodies that is your music.
probably a visceral reaction to the screaming in the background 😭 i normally don’t react to stuff like this but the first time i heard it i got chills and choked up
Some reason this just made all the negative thoughts in my head just float away. You are just getting better and better at your work. You’re my favorite music artist!
Idk why but this reminds me of Home Safety Hotline. A person who gets sucked in a television and can't seem to remember their own body is just that vibe
This is legitimately the best song I've heard in years. It can be interpreted in so many ways. For me I relate it a lot to my struggle with bedbound agoraphobia and the reliance I have on technology to socialize and live, not too different than the flower. Trapped in a digital purgatory.
omg wait this is so relatable lmao like this is soooo me when It feels like thinking through cheese wire. There's no feeling but the no feeling hurts. It's cold without blood. It's cold. It hurts. The maze is sharp on my mind. The angles cut me when I try to think.
I have watched this so many many times. And nothing compares to when I was watching during the premiere. And the live chat was going crazy. And at the end during the screaming there was so so much emotion from the whole chat. It was seriously the most emotional thing I've experienced on here. It was so amazing to feel so much with everyone. And no feeling will compare to that. No matter how many times I rewatch.
can we also talk about the fact that while the flower’s trapped consciousness is clearly distressed and screaming for help the monitoring person doesn’t notice it or fully ignores it?? they’re all “good job, next!” as if it isn’t in extreme agony. on top of that calmly singing on top of the flower’s screaming.
My interpretation of this song is... Some people are pretty detached from the idea of death. When it happens we aren't there to experience it... but what if we uploaded our minds into a computer and slowly realized we had died. The computer program isn't us, but it is the very real reaction we would have were we to be aware that we had died and we could never go back. We could never feel the sun on our skin, the touch of loved ones. And that panic is what some people like me feel while we're alive.
the composition of this one is so gorgeous omg like everything put together with the background track and the visuals and mwah i know it might not seem like much but its seriously perfect :D
this is literally a masterpiece. its such a creative, unique idea for a song and i love it so much. garden jargon is definitely one of my favourites by you
I have been constantly listening to this song since it was released. I truly love this song, and so many other songs that Madilyn Mei has released. They’re all truly amazing
I always make like little videos in my head to relate to the song and this just gives me person stuck in an animatronic/game and begging to escape/leave I absolutely love this song I love Madilyn Mei And I really love flowers
This song makes me feel like a child in front of their role model, their hope in life as a person. looking towards them in search of something, maybe approval or just their life perspective while feeling this swirl of panic and pure excitement inside making it hard to breathe. A panic attack but not a negative one.. i don’t know but I love this feeling you gave me, it was thrilling thank you!
The screams in this video make my eyes water each time the poor flower and something feels so special (in the peculiar way) about this video and something feels very off yet in a somewhat comforting way? As if ive seen this video when i was younger kind of like dreamcore/weird core vibes. This song is very special and emotional
Haven’t seen this take down here yet, so I’m putting this out there; this really intensely reads as a song about dissociation / specifically depersonalization to me. For somewhat obvious reasons, in some ways (ie. The ‘where is my body’ text), but also in interpretation of what we have of the lyrics. To me this feels like something given sentience realizing that it was never intended to BE sentient. The flower tried to explore this sentience it’s been granted, but is shot down (“but I thought-“ “no need to think!”), and forced to confront the fact that all of the thoughts and experiences that come naturally to them don’t reflect the experiences and thoughts that they feel they’re supposed to have, as a sentient being- it’s all “garden jargon”, instead of anything with substance, proving to the flower that it’s not what it was or is supposed to be (it’s not supposed to be sentient, it wasn’t created with the concepts it needs to be sentient successfully). And then it has a crisis / meltdown over the fact that it’s existence feels wrong. That’s how I read the song before reading other people’s interpretations, at least-I’m sure it’s not correct to the story, but this interpretation resonates with me the most, personally. Feeling like you’re missing a part of you that you’re supposed to have to make you what you think you’re supposed to be- “sentient” or “human” or whatever.
the more i watched the more i understood what was happening to this poor flower and it's horrifying and beautiful sounding this is genuinely so freaking good and creative
