Jim…Since I started watching you since 2017, this 2-part tour this year finally made me realize something. You have done a TON of work in a small amount of time, man. Your passion and diligence is truly inspiring.👍🏾👊🏾
Yes, truly inspiring! Jim, about a year ago I moved from zone 9 in CA to zone 11b (or H2) in HI. Really enjoy your videos to see which ideas and plants I can make work here. Love that you have tropicals mixed in your beautiful, eclectic garden. My biggest challenge here on Oahu is sourcing a variety of plants!
These in-depth tours are just fantastic, and the ID captions are much appreciated. I almost always watch twice - first for pleasure, second for taking notes. I've tried to emulate your more relaxed mindset for pest issues, and only fret over a couple sentimental things. Our bigger bumbles also like to 'go through the backdoor' on my mandevilla, but I have a hard time being too annoyed at them.
Jim, my favorite part of this video is your enthusiasm for a plant's future growth. It's all about the journey and enjoying watching a project come together
Well, everytime I think I want to comment on a plant you go to another I want to comment on and another... so I'll just say they are all beautiful and I like the variety and how they blend together for this beautiful look. I have enjoyed seeing sweet Holly! I just love her!
Hi Jim, I am going to copy some of your plant combos from your landscape for my front yard next year. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Take care
I am loving these tour videos. You have so much variety! I appreciate your approach of starting with baby plants and watching them grow. Filling in with flowering annuals makes the space just shine. Very nice Jim!
Jim, I just had to laugh because Holly and that little bumblebee both are resting or taking a nap in the first part of this video, and you're like the energizer bunny! I'm like that too, when I talk about everything growing in my landscape! Your garden is recovering quite well from the tropical storm, Elsa.
I ordered a Daphne and it arrived in February! Bad timing for New Jersey weather. I contacted the company and we decided that I store it until the temps got above freezing. It’s April and the plant is doing well in my basement and I can’t wait to get it planted. The variegated leaf is lovely 🥰 my soft caress got burned by the cold. Another purchase inspired by your videos. I’m zone 7.
Learn so much on from the tours. My friend takes autumn cuttings of the Wendy's Wish salvia in z4b. Neat bee trivia on their hijack nectar behavior. I am not a salvia gardener, but it keeps returning, so I continue to gift it away in autumn/spring.
Just seeing all your hard work that you have done is really amazing. My mind goes to a place wondering what you would come up with if your new garden was in a zone 5b, I’d so would love to witness that. Great job done on your zone 7b. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
I love the detailed tour! I love the plants! I love all the info! I love the lay out of the landscape! My plant wish list is growing by leaps and bounds.🤣❤❤❤❤
Your landscape tours are such inspiration! I love how charming your gardens are, like everything belongs and looks like it naturally sprung from the ground in its place. For some reason (zone 8a) Salvia hates me this year! I'm not sure what I did, maybe because I moved most of it later in the Spring. I'll have to hope for a better Salvia show next year. I also love Aspidistra! I found a gorgeous white speckled Aspidistra a couple years ago, but it didn't do well as a houseplant and is no longer with us. If ever I see it again it will go in the garden where Aspidistra seems to be much, much happier. All your flowers are beautiful but your most beautiful flower is Holly! And I think she knows it.
Thanks Jim. I always learn something from your tours. 🙏 Until recently I would fret over most pest issues in my garden but now I’m taking a more relaxed approach. I find if you do a daily walkabout of the garden, you can identify issues early and in most cases beneficials and other wildlife will help keep a balance.
We love seeing Holly. I'm so glad to see you call plant names incorrectly while giving your tour. I do that constantly even when I'm sure of the names. Makes me feel so much better. I really like that cestrum parqui. Any sources?
Super helpful doing these detailed videos. Do you remember the variety of zinnias that’s in the container with the ornamental peppers? I love the colors! And Holly can photobomb all she wants. Such a sweetie.
I love watching these garden tours. We're both in zone 7B so I'm able to see what will probably do well in my area (north MS). I'm seeing the same sort of growth going on in the beds I started last October. Luckily for me, we had an unusually long spring with rain and cool temps so I was able to continue my planting and transplanting until just about a month ago. What is the short pink zinnia in the planter with the holly? I'm looking for short zinnias other than profusion.
You are right the pineapple sage (it’s actually an herb) is zone 9. I am in zone 9 (Texas) it is a perennial it come back year after year. It blooms red gorgeous flowers that look a salvia (salvia’s are a type of sage plant). Oh and hummers flock to my pineapple sage. One more thing it blooms only in the fall!! That’s the beauty of this herb.
I have a few Proven Winners Rockin' Deep Purple and Blue Suede Shoes Salvia annuals that are similarly showy even when the flowers are spent! The calyx and stems are black and purple and gorgeous... when I purchased them they were just calyx's and I thought they were beautiful alone without the flowers!
Hey Jim. Always love you videos, I have learned so much. Since I began watching I have tried to add lots of the plants you mention into my garden because I live just outside of Charlotte NC. You mentioned the edgeworthia in this video, but I can not find a source for that plant online nor a white beauty berry. Do you have any recommendations for sourcing those. Thank you. Tell Holly to keep up the great job, of photobombing.🐶
Jim do you have any mophead hydrangeas? You mentioned the oak leaf. Have I missed your comments concerning the mopheads? Love your channel. Most informative on the tube.
Hey Jim. Your garden is fantastic! It's so inspiring to watch your channel. I have a blush pink nandina (currently in a container, 'underplanted' with Margarite potato vine) which I want to plant into the landscape. We've had inordinate volumes of rainfall and I fear that in the container, it's getting waterlogged. Can I make that transplant now (07/13), or should I wait until nearer the fall weather?
These in-depth small tours are great I winter garden in Zone 10 and have really become inspired by you plant selections that can be used in SW Florida. Now I just need to find a great annual nursery for early winter plantings besides big box stores any suggestions let me know.
Hi Jim! Your space looks amazing! I have been watching your videos for several months now and I really appreciate how your more laid back attitude has made me less anxious about all of my gardening decisions! thank you so much. I do have a question. I started rooting cuttings of perennials two weeks ago and I'm wondering why I can't plant them in the fall if they are rooted by then instead of overwintering them? I have searched numerous videos and googled but I can't really find anything that tells me why I can't just plant them in the ground before winter. I am hoping to have rooted cuttings of big leaf hydrangea, woodland phlox, dappled willow, and catmint. I live in Powhatan, VA in zone 7a and I feel like they are all hardy to this area so I'm wondering why I can't plan them? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Love your garden tours! Thanks for sharing. In your next Q & A, what can I treat white flies/Aphids with on my Lantana? They are so hard to control here in Zone 9b. I tried a combo of dish soap, rubbing alcohol & water. Almost defoliated my entire plant. Cheers from deep South Texas!
Jim, I've had a Hot Lips Salvia greggi for years. It's in a 15 gallon pot. At this point, it's like planting a tree. The Hummers actually prefer the Black & Blue Salvia to the red/white greggi. What's your experience?
I have been googly eyeing your African Basil since last Summer! Did you grow your African Basil from seed originally? I have been looking for the plant or seeds, but never see tags with African Basil listed. Is purple basil the same thing?
@@JimPutnam I need you to move to the Gulf Coast and be my neighbor so we can swap plants Hahaha... In the meantime, I'll checks some of my garden groups to see if anyone has or has seen it somewhere. I'd love a start of it!

Jim, just gorgeous! You should be getting a commission on all of the plants that I buy, trying to keep up.
Right? I feel the same way. I pay it forward by recommending this channel to anyone who will listen.

Love the more detailed walk throughs, and also the natural garden sounds footage. Thank you for sharing your work and your space.
Yay for Holly and great looking zoysia!
Loved the tour! Thanks for putting in captions for the flowers, trees, and shrubs.

Awesome. I'm gonna be taking cutting of all them next week in videos!
Those petunias are great in that spot. I remember that Peach Tree, great to see it reborn. 👍

Great video. I love the salvia too. Unfortunately I have to treat as an annual. I'm in zone 6b. 👍
Nice about the Indian Hawthorne because mine has thinned and has terrible leaf spot. I moved it from the front of house to back

Where do u get ur “African blue basil”? Would like to try it as an annual in my area.

It is actually sterile. It is a hybrid that doesn't grow from seed. Has to be done from cuttings.
