Although the refurb is definiely more pleasing to the eye, Disney is constantly making the same mistakes for the dynamics of their movie rides. Before 1994, Snow White's Scary Adventure was not very successful with younger riders. This is because the evil witch would appear everywhere, and it lacked the comforting prince and sidekick characters. But most of all, people wondered where was Snow White. Many people did know that YOU, the rider, WAS Snow White. It was your adventure, and it put YOU through Snow White's eyes. Most people are unable to comprehend that, and prefer to spectate Snow White's life, rather than be in it. The same goes for Alice in Wonderland. Notice how your car was saying all of the dialogue of Alice? That is because she is supposed to be YOU. With the revamp, you are once again just spectating Alice's life, rather than being apart of it.
I have to agree. But I think by adding a few Alices in the newer ride, you feel a bit more removed from the story, as if you're just watching it and observing. I don't think there was a single Alice in the old ride, which always kind of bothered me.
+Thomas Joseph "Notice how your car was saying all of the dialogue of Alice? That is because she is supposed to be YOU." I've always wanted to be a blonde, British 10 year old girl on an acid trip while wearing a blue puffy dress.
same, I always like when things are brought into a real life texture, the twisted corridor was honestly one of my favorite parts cause it felt like we were actually in the movie.
I am with you. I liked that the riders embody Alice....that way it is happening to you and you get to experience it and participate in the story and not just an audience member. But the rest of the renovations seem good and make sense. I will miss the entrance, but the new one isn't too bad. This will be the ride my boy will grow up with and that is fine by me.
zenclaw13 Originally all the rides in Fantasyland were like that, the Imagineers in the 1950s designed them so that guests would 'become' the main characters. But unfortunately not many people realized that this was the case, and would often complain about the lack of the characters. Now that they're updating the rides in fantasyland they are incorporating the main characters back into the rides.
***** I didn't know that! I am actually from New Jersey and I can't afford to fly, so my family drives down because my grandparents own a house in Tampa, Florida. Never been to Disneyland. I want to badly!!
Love the renovation except for the fact that they removed the Cheshire head at the end. That was always my favorite part, cause I'd always grin back at him as wide as I could. :(
sonicawesomeness I think they did that because at the end of the movie, Alice is running through circles of pink smoke as she wakes up. If you looked closely at the sides of the walls, you'd see that there were pink circles that looked just like the ones that Alice ran through. Since that signaled the end of Wonderland, but then the final Tea Party scene was there, it just didn't feel quite right.
sonicawesomeness That's like me with the Snow White's Scary Adventure ride in Florida that got totally taken down. Sure, there are other versions in other parks, but none of them have Dopey smiling, waving and wagging his ears at the end. That was my favorite part of that one because when you're little that ride can be a little scary with Queen Grimhilde, but Dopey made it all better... haha
Same with Snow White and Mr Toads wild ride, people don’t realise you are meant to be the character, it even explained it in the guide maps you got given
I feel that the "outside garden" portion before the Hatter scene should have had reconstruction to be indoors and fit another scene there or extend the Hatter scene there rather than just swivel around leaves.
That part used to be my favorite part of the ride. If you look back at earlier versions of the ride (early 2000's or older), the cars went down just the leaf ramp without all the extended platform flooring that was added in the revamps - there were points where it felt you were going to ride right off the edge of the leaf! You could see everything down below. It was quite a thrill! I guess it's safer now, but that's no fun.
Felt kind of bland in the old as well as the new version. I think it just feels like it goes on for too long, since all the other scenes are so packed you can barely keep up and then you suddenly have this long stretch with nothing really to focus on 😅
It's a shame some of the small details from the original ride didn't stay, but the new ones over shadow them immensely making this ride absolutely amazing.
ALL good improvements... EXCEPT losing the long smokey 'dream tunnel' with the Cheshire Cat 'wobbly head' at the end of it, that they used to have (at the very end)...I LOVE how goofy and trippy that looked...oh well...:)
that head freaked me out as a kid, especially since my ride broke down right in front of the head and it stared at me for a good twenty minutes not blinking at all...
+Cathrine Kim No. I miss the even older version of the ride that didn't have the floor and railing on the outside upper level. It was way cooler back in the 90's.
+Sir Isaac Channel Why the '90s specifically? It was the same way in the '90s as it was in the '80s and 2000s. Also, I think the the 1958 version was cooler, with the White Rabbit's upside-down house, the gargantuan sixteen-foot-tall furniture in the oversized room with the giant laughing Cheshire Cat and the miniature version that would swing down from under the footstool, and the old Mad Tea Party where you were on the table with stacks of huge 3D teapots that would move out of the way of the cars, and the giant Mad Hatter pouring tea into the giant March Hare's mouth.
I like the new version a lot better because it had projections, more Alice audio-animatronic figures, and a different but GREAT interior. To me, the old version is AWFULLY familiar and overwhelming.
The old one is definitely better although I think it partly might just be because it's nostalgic to see the old one. Brings back childhood memories and feelings. The new one is still good and I like it a lot actually! I like that there is a little more of Alice in the ride but the old one just has a different vibe to it. I am not a fan of all the projected screen stuff they're doing on these dark rides tbh but again it's a nostalgia thing and as beautiful as the old Disneyland is, it has to change with the times which means rides need to change and be more "high tech" like.
agreeing with ya on this. the older rides like this only need a bit of maintenance and polish. the small additions are welcome as long as they don't overdo it, it retains the originality of the ride. i'd say go all out on new rides for sure, but what's already there should be remembered as it was.
Terrific! I can see the "old" version that I remember and compare it to the changes - which I liked. Glad they added Alice herself to the ride. Thanks from a Disney nerd!
oh thank god, I thought the left one was the old one ( because in most videos the old thing is always on the left) and asked myself why they made it more crappy xD
I've never understood the utility of the winding intermission track that runs outside the building. Why does that part have to be so long? Were they originally planning to put something out there that to date has never panned out?
there's usually a long stretch of track on most slow Disney rides, the time you are on that long stretch is time when other people are getting off and getting on a ride. You might also notice speed changes on the ride, while on the long strech the speed stays rather quick compared to other scenes in the ride, It serves as a way to avoid you having to stop, which happens on slow rides with no long stretch, like the little mermaid ride.
This was so much fun to see the old and the new side by side. I love the added animation. Can hardly wait to see the new Peter Pan! Thanks for posting this! :-)
Some things are better (i.e. the final tea party sequence) but honestly, I am not a fan of all the holograms they use in rides now. I'm sure it's less maintenance than having to fix an actual animatronic but I think it looks cheesy when so much of it is clearly like watching the movie on a screen. I want to feel like I'm there when I'm on a ride and having 3D sculptures helps with that effect. Otherwise I could just watch the movie.
Thanks for the video - but here's a kind suggestion: If your going to another "Before & After" video....which suggests "Left to Right", then maybe you should produce your final videos as a visual eye aid for seeing "Before" as we visually know is to our LEFT, and the "After" to the RIGHT. It's normally what our brain translates. I originally fast forwarded the beginning and didn't like the "After", thinking it was on the RIGHT side. :)
+Antele Same here! I was thinking Disney got lazy and downgraded the whole time thinking "jeez, they even removed Alice?!" Had to rewind and watch it again haha.
I LOVE these side by sides. What I love about the revamp of this ride is that they weren’t lazy and replace a bunch of old school stuff (I.e. the classic animatronics) with digital effects, but they kept the old and added new things still maintaining its charm. For example, I’m still so disappointed with what they did with the Nemo submarine ride, because they basically just put a huge screen underwater for 99% of the ride and I find it so lazy. Also, I personally love that they added Alice throughout. Especially when you’re younger, it’s nice to see the main character thrown in there.
someone needs to show universal that this is the proper way to do a refurb. they're so lazy when it came to refurb Jurassic park the ride in hollywood this year.
The new one definitely looks better. This is coming from someone who grew up with the original rides. The only thing I miss is the Cheshire Cat head at the end of that hallway. It was super creepy, much like the movie itself. Oh well.
I like old version's entrance down and down and down the rabbit hole alot more. The lighting on the queen is too bright on the new one. The upper outside rails look more intriguing in the old one. The swirling smoke and the moving Cheshire cat head was kind of cute and fun in the near ending.
As others i loved how you put them side by side the comparison is amazing and I love the updates to the ride and cannot wait to see more!!! Ty so much, as i am also a lover of theme parks I so much enjoy the channel..... keep up the wonderful work!!!
This is my favorite movie of all time when I go to Disneyland I might cry on this ride because of how much the movie and book have boosted my artistic career
I loved that Alice was hidden on the older version. You can split second catch her hand and part of her dress at 0:57 where she's standing across from the caterpillar.
This is such an awesome side by side comparison, great editing! I remember when we were teenagers this ride was so slow and had hardly anyone on it that we would get off the ride and take pictures with the backgrounds. I have a bunch of incriminating pics now lol. We also got off the Pirates ride once and then jumped on the next boat, but we got busted when we pulled back into the dock. They just told us not to do it again, I think they might have said something over the speakers too but it’s been so long I can’t remember. It was totally stupid and not safe but we thought it was awesome at the time. I didn’t realize then how dangerous rides can be. Also the tickets weren’t electronic back then cause there were no fast passes. My mom worked for Disney Studios and she always warned us not to get in trouble because it would be her butt on the line. Now they would be able to link us to her with those tickets (she has a silver pass). As a parent now I realize how so many of the things my mom told me was correct and we got so lucky not to have been in more trouble or hurt. Listen to your parents and to the rules at public places kids!
I remember I road this ride as much as I could when I was a kid, always loved the book and movie to this day. Ah memories! Can't wait until I get to go again, it's been over 10 years most likely. I'm a teenager now whose been dying to go!
Just a heads-up to those who don't know this already, but they took the un-birthday cake out of the Alice in Wonderland caterpillar ride due to people having epilepsy (I should know, I have epilepsy) since at the end, as your caterpillar came out of the last pair of doors, there was flashing with the candle before and fireworks for the new and improved one for 2014.
This ride was never a favorite of mine, because this movie is not one of my favorites, and because the line for this ride always takes forever. However I must say, since refurbishment one of my friends has forced me to wait in line for this ride and I was pleasantly surprised. The projections are honestly amazing! I think it's important that Disney keeps making practical props, like the figures of the characters, but combining it with the projections of the cartoons creates a lovely and immersive effect. Nice job, Disney!
went on this just a month ago when the electrical parade was going by. as we went up the first ramp, there was the prince from cinderella and his float going by. my mom screams "ill marry you! the shoe will fit!!" and he smiled and nodded knowingly at us. and at the leaves part, tinkerbells float was going by and shes on this sort of pedestal that is perfectly level with the leaves and we start screaming and whooping at her all excitedly and she waved at us and we lost it. definitely made our night.
From someone who has never gone on this ride and won’t get caught up in nostalgia, I liked the new one better. The colors are brighter, and it’s nicer to look at. I think most people like the old one because they remember parts of the old ride they loved as a kid but got taken away in the newer version.
They kept alot of things from the old version. One of my favorite props from when i rode it the first time was the merry unbirthday cake. So glad they kept it
Did the new version remove the Queen yelling, "Off with her head"? You can hear it here, but in new recordings and the last time I rode, it seems she just shakes her fists.
Everything has been well improved but at 3:05 makes me pretty sad. Back then, I'd be hella terrified (in a good way) at that part because of how trippy and confusing it was when I was little. But now that I look at it, I wish it were to stay.
Any thoughts on the Rabbit Hole change and anyone like the original hole better? As much as the swirling tunnel projections are cool, I miss the old one where the tunnel is lit up, it feels more like the movie and more like you’re going through the rabbit hole.

meh.
The old Cheshire Cat had better animation, but worse color
Yeah
Not to mention the glowing smile
Love the new one, except for the very first scene. The twisted corridor was better than a projection.
Exactly how I feel. Everything else was an improvement
I mean it kinda looked bad before and after but ya it did look better with the practical effects
Agreed
same, I always like when things are brought into a real life texture, the twisted corridor was honestly one of my favorite parts cause it felt like we were actually in the movie.
I love the new one too the caterpillar animatronic got a new paint job
I don't personally like that Alice is in the scenes now. I enjoyed that the riders were Alice.

Yes, as roleplaying for Alice it immerses you in the setting more & the ride becomes more enjoyable, you feel you're an actual part of it.

I like the renovations, but it was more magical and engaging to let the riders take the place of Alice. Adding her in the ride takes that away.
Yeah but most people doesn't get the idea that they are Alice.
yeah that was the idea from 1955 until 1983.
They’re kids they don’t give a fuck they just wanna see the characters, it wasn’t any more magical or engaging lmao

Werewolves Rock aj what would the ride be about? Plus there's like no room for jack shit.
duh it was one of there most famous movies!

we tried getting on this ride but they told us it was filled with bees.

No. I miss the even older version of the ride that didn't have the floor and railing on the outside upper level. It was way cooler back in the 90's.

That floor wasn't there on the outside top level of the ride in the 90's. They added that in the 2000's as a safety precaution.
***** They added it in 2010.

I figured that. I have't been to Disneyland since 1999. Going for Christmas this year though.

Wow, this renovation is great. It's nice to see Disney putting new life in classic rides.
I like it except for the beginning with the projection ceilings and the fact tht they took out Cheshire cat face from the end :(

The left is the old
Katie Steed Lol no ur wrong it literally says so in the beginning of the vid
I've never understood the utility of the winding intermission track that runs outside the building. Why does that part have to be so long? Were they originally planning to put something out there that to date has never panned out?
Because the final Mad Hatter scene wasn't added until later. It used to be just a quick turn around to the station after coming down the leaves.
It's so long because it's easier on the ride vehicles to go down the ramp that way.
still think they could do better on that part. put a dark tunnel over it, blacklights or something
there's usually a long stretch of track on most slow Disney rides, the time you are on that long stretch is time when other people are getting off and getting on a ride. The new one definitely looks better. This is coming from someone who grew up with the original rides. The only thing I miss is the Cheshire Cat head at the end of that hallway. It was super creepy, much like the movie itself. Oh well.
They should update all of the old Fantasyland rides with modern effects, but keep the charm and simplicity.
Peter pan ride did in 2015 and snow White did in 2016
To be honest, they should have kept the original ride the way it was, maybe just a few improvements. The new visuals are too digitalized.
Only changing chesire's cat coloring... the new one has better coloring
Thank you for putting this together! I want to go on the new version now! This was VERY well done; cheers.
Why is it that all dark rides have to be so freezing cold, huh??Anyone else but me ever noticed that??
I'm assuming to suit the environment. I always notice that on haunted mansion.
+stormy chavez well of course the haunted mansion is gonna be cold. Ever heard that ghosts are found in a cold environment
So cold!!! Brrrr!!!
It would be very hot and stuffy with no good AC or ventilation inside a dark ride....Also it would be smellier.
If they don't have it cold in there, the whole ride is gonna end up like the dolls in the 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie.
I like old version's entrance down and down and down the rabbit hole alot more. The lighting on the queen is too bright on the new one. The upper outside rails look more intriguing in the old one. The swirling smoke and the moving Cheshire cat head was kind of cute and fun in the near ending.
I prefer the new ride because it actually makes me feel like I am in the movie.
this is a great video. I'd like to see more of these.
I didn't think I needed this in my life but I did so thanks
As others i loved how you put them side by side the comparison is amazing and I love the updates to the ride and cannot wait to see more!!! Ty so much, as i am also a lover of theme parks I so much enjoy the channel..... keep up the wonderful work!!!
I definitely prefer the new version because I love how they added the flowers growing 😀
Really like this update, I like how the subtle changes make it so that you are following Alice rather than you ARE Alice like it used to be.
All of these types of rides freak me tf out. Like splash mountain, when you go through the scenes like this.
Holy cow... The new projections added to the refurb really are a trip!! Everything really pops out with color and animation now...
The projection effects on this and Big Thunder Mountain are very effective. Well done!
Awesome Video! thanks for doing this.
Good job on matching them so perfectly
This ride scared me as a child. I don’t know why.
This is my favorite movie of all time when I go to Disneyland I might cry on this ride because of how much the movie and book have boosted my artistic career
Same! Except for the crying.
The outdoor part was definitely better, but the very ending was worse.
Nice vide man
I just wished they repainted the flooring to the outside
Great video! Thank you!!

I'm gonna be honest here, I like the old one better.

We know were saying we think the old one is better and theres 3 dudes here -o-
Like the old, but I like the new graphic effects, so it's a stalemate.
Nostalgia glasses is all.
I enjoyed the old one when I was younger, but it's good that they updated the ride, to change with the times. Excellent improvements.
Idk why they had to get rid of that tiny winged rocking horse tho
I prefer the old flower garden scene, but aside from that I like the updated version better.
yeah I wished they just repainted it and not change the floor but liked what they did with the fence
Thankyou for uploading this it looks so much better can't wait to go!
Your welcome. You'll love the new Alice! Lots of big and small details that really make the attraction shine.
very cool!!! great editing thank you for making this gem
I loved that Alice was hidden on the older version. You can split second catch her hand and part of her dress at 0:57 where she's standing across from the caterpillar.
You should see the Alice in wonderland ride at Blackpool pleasure beach- makes me so nostalgic 😩
The new one is simply wonderful because it makes you feel that you're in Alice / Alicia's Wonderland. =)
I would like to mention that the alice inwonderland ride in blackpool england is a lot like the old vertion of the ride
Tbh kinda happy they took out the Cheshire Cat at the very end. Always freaked me out a bit and gave me nightmares when I was younger haha.
The re-new is good, but I hate that they removed the bread-and-butterfly. He was so cute!
I remember I road this ride as much as I could when I was a kid, always loved the book and movie to this day. Ah memories! Can't wait until I get to go again, it's been over 10 years most likely. I'm a teenager now whose been dying to go!
Great video! Side by Side awesome............. The New Looks Better, the OLD is just Better though.........
Absolutely loved seeing the old and new side by side. Just wish there was an older old haha
Loved the side by side!!! Sooo cool!
The new version looks so epic!
10/10-Better than the Test Track Refurbishment
That's incredible. Thank You!!
The old entrance was cooler
There's a lot of things they should've kept from the old one
Aw the twisted corridor and da cat is gone... Yep shoulda kept the cat head
I'm glad it's gone. It gives me the creeps.
Awesome !!!thanks for the upload !
WOW, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
I like how at 2:40 the old rider stops filming the track so they can look at a much better ride
I kinda miss the old because I grew up with the old disney 😓❤️
From someone who has never gone on this ride and won’t get caught up in nostalgia, I liked the new one better. The colors are brighter, and it’s nicer to look at. I think most people like the old one because they remember parts of the old ride they loved as a kid but got taken away in the newer version.
This ride is always super busy. Whenever I go there the waiting time is more than hour.
They kept alot of things from the old version. One of my favorite props from when i rode it the first time was the merry unbirthday cake. So glad they kept it

So it's basically the same thing but a lot brighter and several changes
I liked the old one in the end with the Cheshire Cat going into the tea party, I liked how it was originally it was my favorite part
This is just like that row of classic Disney character rides near dumbo ride
I like the old one but the new one is more bright and visible and detailed
I have to say the changes were all for better. The new effects look great. :-3
My first time going on this ride was back in 2005, now 10 years later I got on this ride and everything is refurbished.
I never realized how much has changed
0:23
New: When you take drugs
Old: When you take drugs in a fancy castle
I like how they kept the old one with the news one like when they kept the old in the same get wut I mean?
Ashes Underworld i get wut u mean
