You should definitely check out the into the new world ballad version, it’s super beautiful, but also really sad. It was the first performance after one member(Jessica) left the group and they were crying during the stage...even if i’m not a girls generation stan, i still cried with them

SNSD or the most iconic of iconic groups. Genie is my top kpop song ever and ITNW might be in my top 3 or 5 also as well as being my absolute favorite debut. Gee is such a good song too and def a go to when i need a mood booster ! Also those colored pants were EVERYWHERE after it came out even in Europe and i never knew it came from them!
You have to watch the most iconic performance ever of Genie on the rooftop, you'll love it!

Genie is seriously the crown jewel is their ridiculously vast and amazing discography. It’s pure pop music perfection. And the whole choreo and sailor outfit concept was totally iconic.
They are more than iconic. they are the nation girl group and kpop legendary girl group who beat everyone both boy and girl group and stayed on top for years still up to now. They did a lot of concept from cutie pie to sexy bad ass hot concept. Their music from fun, bubbly to head banging music.They became a standard for every girl group because of their whole package talent: singing, dancing acting etc. A well respected and belove girl group you can see or hear them everywhere in KOREA. That's how influential they are in their own country. Their achievements are just too many and I'm proud to be a sone and snsd introduced me to kpop more. They pave the way for kpop to be well known.
Ps. Their live performance are all awesome. Gee song is the song of the decade. You should react to Genie performance on rooftop when snsd performed the tv rating increase and still the top high rating performance in tv music history.
Girls' Generation is legendary, they are much better live. Vocals, visuals and dance are always on point, a complete package. You are going to have so much fun getting to know them. The guy in the Gee video is Minho from SHINee! They're labelmates and Minho in particular is really close with SNSD
intw was actually released in 2007,, we are almost 15 years already!! this is so sad and nostalgic and gg are actually on the tall side aside from taeyeon and sunny lmao
When you said even though this was your first time listening to ITNW it felt nostalgic because of the music and such, I remembered that when I first listened to it, just by the intro I felt like I had known that song for all my life! It was really crazy, had never happened before nor has happened after Into The New World. Now it is nostalgic to me and everytime I hear this song someone starts cutting onions next to me TT
Taeyeon does the high notes so it should be easy to recognize her when you hear it but sometimes it's Jessica but their voices are so distinct that you should be able to tell them apart if you know Taeyeon's voice
And sometimes Tiffany or Seohyun are does the high notes 😆
"Gee" really launched SNSD (aka Girls' Generation) into mainstream success both in Korea but also helped launch K-pop in general into international acclaim, riding what would be called the "Hallyu wave" (popularity of K-pop internationally). "Genie" was their comeback directly after "Gee" and really cemented them as a force to be reckoned with, and especially in Korea it made them stand out as "the nation's girl group"!
Definitely I think there's something in the instrumental of "Into the New World" that makes it feel nostalgic, after all, it's kind of about leaving behind your old world to enter into the new world (of whatever you want to be or do) ;0
Yeah, SNSD really set the mold for girl groups moving forward. For a long while before SNSD debuted, boy groups were just dominating. So SNSD really paved the way for girl groups to reach mainstream popularity in the way that they can today :)
2nd gen K-pop was a simpler time, it was about catchy hooks, catchy choreo, and a good load of fun :D If you're looking for more iconic 2nd gen songs, let me suggest "Mister" by KARA, "Nobody" by Wonder Girls, "Abracadabra" by Brown Eyed Girls, "Bo Peep Bo Peep" by T-ara, "Fire" by 2NE1, "Replay" by SHINee, "Sorry Sorry" by Super Junior, and "Lies" by Big Bang ;0

Fun Fact #1 : The girls thought So Nyuh Shi Dae was a terrible name for their group).
ITNW-- despite the musical and visual impression the lyrics express sorrow and determined hope, which is why it became an anthem for Korean protesters against social injustice and corruption there's an example on youtube that's only a couple of years old---so that's one reason why SNSD are legend.
"Gee" was the first ( and I think still the only ?) song to win 1st on "Music Bank" 9- weeks in a row, and won a total of 14 total music show 1sts (also an unbroken record so far). Also SNSD was the first group to amass 100 music show 1sts ( I think EXO finally got to 102 a couple years ago,. So that 's Legend Reason #2
GEE Fun Fact #1 Taeyeon didn't like 'Gee' at all--nor a couple of later successful songs, so a rule of thumb was established that If Taeyeon didn't like a song, the rest of the girls were sure it would be a hit!
Fun Fact#2 : The boy in the video is Minho from Shinee (a "hoobae").
GENIE and GEE were also recorded in Japanese and had Japanese MVs shot in Japan. The MVs were very similar to the originals but Genie had about 30% more closeups of just their legs---the Japanese were obsessed with their legs. Gee hit #1 on the Japanese Oricon Daily Singles Chart, the first non-Japanese Asian girl group to do so, (I think Genie made it to #4) Their first Japanese album (in 2011) sold over a million copies and became the highest selling album of ANY Korean group in Japan. . SNSD were also the first girl group to have 4 Japanese tours, and in 2014 became the first Korean Girls Group to have 3 #1 albums in Japan ( the Japanese music market is 5X the size of the Korean market). So let's call that Legend Reason #3.
JAPAN FUN FACT: News of SNSD's arrival to kick off their 2nd Jaoanese tour was the lead story of Japan's 9 O'Clock News---an unprecedented decision by the program director that pissed-off a lot of conservative viewers as the lead story until then was ALWAYS about politics or economic and NEVER mere entertainment.
They did all this while also shooting a total of 5 SNSD reality TV series, collectively and individually shooting more commercials and fashion features than any other group, recording more OST's than anyone else, appearing on (probably) EVERY possible variety show, music show, and major radio show. Three of the members also had regular DJ jobs, four of them had regular music show hosting jobs, two of them starred in stage musicals, two of them were regular cast members in a year-long variety/reality FARMING show (Invincible Youth), two of them were regulars in a comedy drama series (Unstoppable Marriage), two of them featured in their own' fake marriage' TV series, one of them starred in a K-drama series ( and won an acting award for it) PLUS multiple guest host and MC gigs on TV, radio and award shows PLUS all their special stage performances AND being in international KCon and SMTown tours. And that's not all---but that's quite enough for now! Let's call that Legend Reason #3
Lastly,
a) from Genie onward many of their MV intros provide no clue as what the song and style is going to actually be like---so assume nothing from the video thumbnails.
b) Their hit song MVs, as many and varied as they are, do not show anywhere near their range as performers/artists. There are special stages and 'serious' music show performances that are something else.
c) As others have said here, SNSD live concerts are legend. I'd suggest continue chronologically with the MVs through to 2010, then check out their first Korean concert. Then MVs to 2013, and then the associated live concerts. You'll see and hear some songs for which there are no MVs, and you'll better appreciate the 'live' performances once you are familiar with the studio/MV versions.

Well, anyway, I'll try to retype what I wrote the first time:
Don't worry about not recognizing Taeyeon, they were very young here (especially in ITNW, when they were 16-18), but if you wanna know she's the one doing the high notes and adlibs like 80% of the time.
As you said, ITNW is a VERY iconic song, it's been covered by a lot of different groups, it even had a special stage with all members of Twice, Red Velvet, Gfriend and IOI ( th-cam.com/video/-P3rZOmau-g/w-d-xo.html ). In 2016 students from the all female college of Enhwa University sang ITNW during a protest ( th-cam.com/video/eBCBht6_C4E/w-d-xo.html ) and ever since then it's been used as a protest song multiple times, including during the impeachment of their president, marches for the Mee Too movement, celabrations of the ruling of anti abortion laws as inconstitutional, pride parades etc. It's amazing, really.
Gee and Genie are two of their most popular songs, with Gee being named song of the decade. They have lots of covers as well. Oh man! I love watching people discovering SNSD (Girls Generation). They are the reason I became a kpop fan and interested in korean culture as a whole. I stumbled upon their debut on 2007 in youtube and I was hooked. They paved the way for not only most if not all girl groups that came after their second gen but also some of the men in kpop value and respect their contribution to kpop and the fact that GG really pushed kpop to the international market which is why they were (and still are in my heart) the national girl group and ambassadors to korea. While joking about not being able to find Taeyeon, she's right there singing on the screen looooooooooooool but thank you for doing this, I'm so glad newer kpop stans are still taking the time to learn about Girls' Generation because they a huge part of kpop girl group history and kpop history in general. They proved that girl groups could be incredibly successful in a boy group dominated industry. They were and still are the standard of girl groups. Trainees went to entertainment companies wanting to be like Girls' Generation.
After SNSD used uniform-themed outfits in Genie, all kpop groups after em have at least once comeback with similar theme.

No the Video was upload again in 2011 but the MV was from 2007. They debuted 8/5/2007.

Into the new world was actually released in 2007. But because of some copy right problem, youtube want SM entertainment to delete all of the snsd MV in 2009 and before 2009. After that, SM entertainment reupload the MV in 2011.

Just by watching the Into the new world makes me want to cry seeing how they are the most respected girl group in kpop. I just dint know what to say, I'm feeling nostalgic and flashback how they made me a kpop stan. Like without them I wouldnt stan any group I am now stanning. They my always ultimate group... Kpop culture is so different from today’s culture. In 2009, that’s the first time I owned a computer. While casually browsing through TH-cam, I saw their music evideo “Gee”, clicked it, and started being a fan. And I never regretted it! I remember being confused between Yoona, Yuri, and Seohyun! HAHAHAHA I listen to new kpop groups today but I will always come back to SNSD. They are forever in my heart❤️

SNSD paved the way for the girl groups now! they destroyed the stereotype during their era that kpop was ruled by boyband! they experienced black ocean during the 2008 dream concert, but they never gave up and eventually became the nations girl group that led to the new era of girl group. Love this group since 2007! Their iconic debut song ITNW is frequently played in peaceful protest and also use this song in auditions to evaluate contestants.
Into the new world is the anthem for the girls grps of this generation they paved the way for all the girl grps. React to their other songs too.
Was waiting for you to connect the high notes in ITNW with Taeyeon (since she sang most of them) if you couldn't recognize her off the bat, but you didn't so I waited for Gee instead and yay, you kind of got it!

UP UNTIL NOW, SNSD IS THE ONLY GIRL GROUP I STAN!
I know I'm late but I just wanted to say that Gee was released when korea was having a crisis and it actually saved the Korean economics and they also have a song named way to go it was released to give hope to Koreans it was once said that SNSD can't even hurt themselves because they don't own their bodies they are the nation's treasure
My favorite part was her talking about finding Tae as she was on the screen XD
SNSD Journey?! Cannot wait! Pace yourself they have 10+ years worth of content. Besides their Korean albums they also have Japanese ones and commercial songs for Intel (Visual Dream) and LG (Chocolate Love). They even participated in a national campaign song to cheer people up during the economic crisis (Ha Ha Ha) Not to mention the sub units and the member's solo stuff.
I know it can be tough reacting to the Japanese stuff here but hope you will be able to view it even if it is offline. I would recommend Divine, Love & Girls (the Universal Studios Japan version where you see the crowd dancing along with them in the rain), Galaxy Supernova, Karma Butterfly, Indestructible, Mr. Taxi, and Paparazzi. Personal Korean favorites are Run Devil Run, The Boys, I Got A Boy, Catch Me If You Can, Mr. Mr., Goodbye, Lion Heart, Holiday, and All Night.
I would save Into the New World ballad version at the Tokyo Dome for later after you've gotten to know the members a little more. I think it will have more meaning not that the performance at the Tokyo Dome cannot stand by itself but there will be different appreciation of it.
As for a SNSD guide most of the recent ones unfortunately leave out Jessica since she is no longer part of the group but she's been an integral member and was with them until 2014. I feel any guide that does not mention her does a disservice to SNSD. The one by yarsm is probably the one you want to watch. It does a decent job of introducing you to the members and showing you just how crazy they can get :D
If you want to react to 2011 MV, I recommend The Boys. This is their best era

When SNSD debuted with Into The New World, they open up the world for kpop girl groups, that was when koop fans are crazy for boy groups only. I think without them, girl groups cannot penetrate worldwide like what happened these days.

Into the New World became an anthem of feminism for the young generation of Korean women! I don't know why but it's cool I think. And in this sense, the song is iconic either. The composers of the song GEE, E-Tribe was the producer of Happyface Ent. which is, as you know, our Dreamcatcher’s company!
