- Chaudhary Aslam of village Mianwal Araian district Jalandhar is a very well-known character of the 1947 partition. He was a numberdar and opinion leader of his village. During the riots of 1947, he fought a war in defense of local Muslims, very bravely.
Mianwal Araian is a village in Shahkot in Jalandhar district of Punjab State, India. It is located 4 kilometers (2.5 mi) from Shahkot, 22 kilometers (14 mi) from Nakodar, 46 kilometers (29 mi) from district headquarter Jalandhar, and 177 kilometers (110 mi) from the state capital Chandigarh. The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is an elected representative of the village as per Panchayati raj (India).

میری والدہ محترمہ جالندھر سے مائیگریٹ ہو کر پاکستان تشریف لائے تھے۔میرے والد اس انڈین آرمی میں خدمات انجام دے رہے تھے۔والدہ فرماتی تھیں کہ جب تک اسلم میانوالیا زندہ رہا تمام لوگ امن سے بیٹھے رہے۔ مسلمانوں کو کوئی خطرہ نہ تھا۔جب اسلم میانوالیا کو اس کے تھانیدار دوست نما دشمن (منافق)نے دھوکے سے بلا کر شہید کردیا تو ہر دل خون کے آنسو رویا۔پھر اعلان ہوگیا کہ آٹھ کھڑے ہوں کہ اسلم میانوالیا شہید کردیا گیا ہے۔ہم اپنی ماں جی سے یہ واقعات سن کر دل رنجیدہ ہو جاتا تھا۔اگرچہ والدہ محترمہ ان پڑھ تھیں مگر ان کو جالندھر اور امرتسر کے واقعات حرف بہ حرف خوب یاد تھے۔

A painful story .A brutal scene of partition 1947.May Allaha save everybody from such scene.
Just to give our perspective from the other side. We knew Bishen singh from koharan. My dads Nankey are from koharan. They own land next to mianwal on the road leading to zaffarwal near the qabrastan. My dads nana Sandhi wes on good relationship with Aslam. Aslam was very well known in the region. From what i have heard during partition there was talk of peace by some committee. Some foul language was used by some badmash people perhaps from Rehrwan . This enraged Aslam who obtained amunition from his friend from the police station in shahkot. They attacked village koharran khairey lasoori manakpur and camped under the bohrr at nikian koharan. Several hundered innocent people were killed during this sensless bloodletting. About 300 women and children were burned alive who had taken shelter in a bhaura at moolewal khairian. They Murdered baba sunder singh from manakpur who did not abandon Guru Granth sahib. My dads Mama was murdered by the mob returning from lassoori. They had to cremate him in a kopp.
Mistry Channan singh also saw Chaudhary Aslam die. I heard him narrate the story how Aslam had gone to get ammunition from his friend at the Thanna but due to transfer. The new thanedar surprised him. He was pulled from the horse by Mistry Channan singh and others and beheaded. His last words were " mein jo keeta uss da fal paya". His body was left to rot on a kikkar on what used to be shapparian that were on the road to salaichian. This was due to immense hatred due to poetery by Aslam in which he had stated that even after death he will continue fighting from the grave. Due to immense hatred generated by this bloodletting the muslims of Lossoori and Bahmanian paid a very heavy price. We have to learn from these sensless killings that it only takes a spark to light a fire. And there are people in all communities that start the fire and enjoy the results. Its the common people who suffer. In our village our forefathers had great understanding with the muslims. When the Aslams group came to attack and kill people. The village muslims came up and said they have to kill them first before they would allow them to proceed. Our village was not attacked and not a single muslim was harmed in our village. Infact Baba Nihal singh saved two young teenage girls from some peoples bad intentions. And there used to be talk of two ladies that somehow got separated and remained at our house for some time after partition. They were from Chitti. Also after Mianwal was abandoned my Father who was a teenager then found a book in urdu on Hikmat he used to make all sorts of medicine from this book. I still have the book but can't read urdu.

Dear Dr Ismail ,thank you so much for your very informative interview with the young lady,Najma, about the events during the partition of India. As you mentioned during your discussion that live in area around Mainwal. You did mention about lasuri and Nokoder in India.My fathers parents were from Lasuri and my mothers relatives were from Nokoder India and all came in 1882 to west pakistan when the British started new irrigation system in west Punjab. All of them came in 1882 to west Punjab where they have bought their land.My mother use to tell me all stories she must have from her parents and grandparents.i would love to meet you to hear your story because it is so similar to my mothers stories as she heard from her parents and grandparent.My family live in Lasuri near Mureedwala in Pakistan.My wife’s parents are from Chichawatni, near Sahiwal.But l am now in Uk and coming to Pakistan in September or October and very much hope to meet you to hear more interesting stories.i pray to Allah to grant you very long life.May Allah bless you with very blissful and happy life.All the very best wishes. Those who calls Sikhs were not involved in this great massacre is totally wrong, how come outsiders come to a region of Sikh lands and killed so many innocents without local support.
In my opinion it’s not possible.
May be a minority of Sikhs didn’t supported but majority was in involved in this ever greatest Massacre.
