My surgery was 11/16/23. They did my nerve block about 11 am right before they took me in to the operating room. Wasnt bad, kind of felt like starting an IV In the leg. I barely felt it. I woke up a little after 2 pm in pain after surgery. They gave me something by mouth and via IV and I felt relief within 5 mins.
I opted to stay over night and they had Oxy 5 mg for moderate pain and 10 mg for severe ordered during my admission. I only needed the 10 mg and discharged early afternoon the say after my procedure. Havent needed pain meds since they last gave them while I was at the hospital and I only took it then because physical therapy had to work with me to clear me for discharge since I live upstairs and live alone.
I guess everyone's situation is different. Perhaps, surgeons have different guidelines now for pain management to keep us a little more comfortable.

I’m 4 days post op right quadriceps tendon reattach. I had surgery Monday . Went home from the hospital had that nerve blocker so had no idea the extent of damage . I went up the stairs with crutches made it 3/4 the way brace gave out bent my knee to basically a baseball catchers position heard it pop and then I let go of the rail in fear of more damage and fell down the stairs . Tuesday had emergency surgery to repair everything again and new damage . So now 4 days post op and the constant pain went away but it surges to a 10 and requires pain meds and meditation to calm it down lol. I’m sure the amount of pain is due to two surgeries same place 20 hours apart . I have own a brand of fitness equipment and lifted heavy for years and never injured myself from 500 pound squats and 700 pound dead’s but hit a patch of ice and it’s a wrap 😂

God bless for the videos that detail anyone going through this. I had bilateral quad tendon ruptures in both legs on 11/16/2020. I have had ruptured Brachialis and Achilles tendon tears previously. Although there are no nerves in the tendons. The pain comes from the muscles being stretched when the tendon is being reattached. The sooner the surgery the less chance for pain. What is especially disturbing is Big B tore his just walking, and I see other 50+ men tearing their quad tendons sprinting across traffic or coming down the stairs meaning that this would have eventually happened at some time in the future and is probably better that it happen now in your 50’s when your able to come back from this injury and not happen when your in your 60’s, 70’s or 80’s, when most people would just give up and needing to use a walker or wheelchair. Although this injury is extremely rare, the majority of the injuries seem to fall into two categories. Those involving a accident like falling off a ladder or stepping backs and landing wrong causing the quad tendon to tear (were the accident not have happened causing the injury, the person would never have torn their quad tendon). Then their is the 2nd category that appears to be middle age men who have (and are still using) steroids. The bone in the knee where the tendons attach become loose and tear away just doing something simple like walking. I myself fall in a 3rd category where I used steroids for years, and was only taking a weekly injection of testosterone for HRT therapy and rolled out of the way of a car rolling back that I was working under when the parking break failed and would not have torn the tendons on a normal person, but both tore because my tendons had already been compromised. Another thing I noticed reading comments in these video is that a lot of the 50+ gym rats like myself, tend to overdo the physical therapy trying to get back to where they were pre surgery, and end up re-tearing or stretching the tendon, causing them not to recover as well as they would have were they to give the injury time to heal before trying to putting more strain on the tendon before it is completely healed. I wish to thanks Big B for putting out these recovery videos that are more for the gym rats that were working out before they injured themselves.

What’s up Boomer? I’m sorry to hear about Bilateral rupture. It will be 3 years on April 30th for me and I’m still not 100% yet. My biggest problem is coming down the stairs. I can go up the stairs a lot easier. How did your surgery go and have you started physical therapy yet?
I appreciate how knowledgeable you are about this type of injury because everything that you said is right on point. Please keep me updated on your progress. I wish you safe and speedy recovery. Thanks for sharing.

Yes indeed Boomer. I did stop the videos and I’m still not 100%.. It’s still super hard for me to go up and down the stairs. Going up is not as bad as coming down. I will start to post some updated videos within the next week or two.
One thing that I do now that I wasn’t doing before my injury is some type of recovery. I definitely get more than a gallon of water a day in as well. Great information Boomer. Thanks for picking up where I left off.

I ruptured my left squatting on the smith machine. For some reason I thought I was hooked on the latch so I relaxed my body and it missed the latch and instantly forced me down. Surgery is scheduled this week. My question is how long before you could walk without crutches or a walker? I'm a male nurse, so I can't return to work until I can at least walk without crutches.

@@LiveTrainEatTheJenkinsFitness I'm 43. And it was only about 215 on the bar. I did about 265 then did a drop set with about 215 immediately after. I was handling the weights fine. Good form, didn't feel like I was pushing myself too hard, and due to the weight being less than I've done in the pass (just focused on reps that day, I didn't think much to put up the safety bars. And I can't imagine dealing with a bilateral version of this! 😬 And no worries on response time.
