Yes they are. I bought the Souls of Black Album in the early 90s as a kid but I just lost touch. I suppose I got swallowed up in the mainstream grunge and metal and just lost touch with this band.I have come back in the last 15 to 20 years or so.

Testament is stellar. Chuck Billy is a monster on vocals, so much power! But, just as important, his ability to sing in a way that you can understand every word shouldn’t be overlooked! Fun fact: Dave Lombardo is the guest drummer on this Testament album, fuckin sick!
When I was in h.s. Return to Serenity was on the radio. Then in 1994 Low, despite being so heavy got radio play here a lot, and I had to buy the CD, loved them since
One of my favorite songs, favorite albums. Anything with James Murphy on guitar Low 1994 the Gathering 1999, Lombardo on drums here , or John Tempesta on Low (or the zillion times he filled in live or otherwise). Demonic 1997 is a little similar to those 2. The post 2000 new albums have a different feel to me. I personally love those 3 CDs

This album was recorded with James Murphy on guitar (Death, Obituary, Disincarnate, Cancer,...), the mighty Steve DiGiorgio on bass (Death, Control Denied, Sadus, Obscura,...) and of course, Dave Lombardo.!!!!
@@ryanexsus - Testament is underrated for people who only listen to the Big 4. If you start comparing everything to Metallica every band becomes "underrated" at that point. Outside the Big 4, Testament are the most successful U.S. thrash metal band as far as popularity and sales.

I have to say it too that I'm surprised this was your first touch to Testament. In my opinion Testament is the best Thrash Metal band, cause they deliver it still with their newer albums compared to those big four bands... Of course they are pioneers... But Testament came right after them. My all time favourite song is Trial by Fire live. They have the groove and funky feeling 🤟

that's false. suffocation, dying fetus, cannibal corpse, morbid angel, death...literally every big death metal band ever was thriving during the time of this album's release. Testament simply followed the death metal trend with Demonic, and then backed down to Melodic death metal inspired by bands like At The Gates, In Flames, Entombed etc.
Testament has unfairly been compared to Metallica on their earlier records. Which is a shame cuz they are their own beast. The Gathering only has Chuck Billy and Eric Peterson as the only members, however, having James Murphy, Dave Lonbardo and Steve DiGiorgio, well as you can hear, STELLAR! I love EVERYTHING that Testament has released over the years. Check out their last 4 releases: Gods of Creation, Brotherhood of The Snake, Dark Roots of Earth, and The Formation of Damnation. The Formation of Damnation was the first release with all the original members; Chuck(vox), Eric Peterson(Rhythm Guitar), Alex Skolnick(Lead guitar), Greg Christian (Bass), Lou Clemente(Drums) . The following three releases after Formation add Steve DiGiorgio and Gene Hoglan on bass and drums respectively and are CRUSHING!!!!

The metal people listen to these days all goes back to a number of bands and one is Testament. Another you should check out that is mind-numbingly influential is At the Gates “Slaughter of the Soul”
If this is a 7, I world not be able to handle the quality of a 9, let alone a 10. The musicality in the bridge section is insane. Just an expertly-crafted metal song.

Consider checking out songs like: Burnt Offerings (1987) - masterpiece, seriously one of my all time thrash songs from the iconic intro to the catchy riffs (all of them) Throne of Thorns (2012) - modern masterpiece: mid-tempo, but dynamic, with a phenomenal solo, great riffs and awesome drums by Gene Hoglan The Formation of Damnation (2008) - if you liked DNR... you will LOVE this!!! :D The Legacy (1990) - their best ballad. Banger of a chorus, mesmerizing guitar work, and pretty good lyrics too! Return to Serenity (1992) - their trademark ballad. Absolutely mesmerizing guitarwork by Skolnick! The Haunting (1987) - riffs and screams that will satisfy ANY thrasher! Stronghold (2016) - again.. if you liked DNR and "powerful" thrash, trust me - you'll love this one as well!
