  • Today we dive into my 2013 Chevrolet Cruze to find the source of a misfire. Turns out I had a melted piston, but was able to piece together one good engine from the two I had. Excellent video. I got a ton of oil in serpentine belt area. Went to change belt and lots of oil on those 3 long bolts that hold on engine mount to side cover. That normal? Trying to wonder if it’s crank seal.

Great job !! My2014 Buick Encore blew a chunk out of the water jacket on #3 piston about the size of a pencil eraser !!! (never heard of such a thing either, must have been a weak casting ?? Lasted 144K so I can't complain much) I have the new totally rebuilt head now. AMAZINGLY it didn't destroy the piston. I have to transfer the exhaust studs (I let someone borrow my stud kit and never got it back, sound familiar ? ...lol) so I'm waiting to get my new kit. Try eBay for the tools. I find many times it's cheaper than Amazon. The special timing kit was only $47 on eBay. Fits perfect too. I was going to have a shop do ours because I'm a 70 year "young" former Jet engine/car restorer. They quoted me "about" $5 grand ..... THEN they would have called with the bad news of needing a new head ..... Prolly would have charged me $6500 at least ... anyways, I'll have 'er back together next week. Total cost of under $1000 head and all !! Thank You for a great video !

The intake manifold can be off the cylinder head without disconnecting all those hoses and connections.

What caused the first engine to chip a valve and at how many miles? What caused tne second engine to chip a piston and how many miles on second engine?

Braden- Great content from an original 2012 Cruze owner. In the time lapse what made you pull the bumper cover when going after the head removal? I'm guessing it was to get the engine hoist closer to the engine. You didn't pull intercoolers and radiator to get the lower block out, or did you?
Good Content, and one great job for a DIY project. I haven't pulled a turbo, or the intake yet.. My intake check valve is present, but who knows for how long!

I usually pull the bumper for better access to the radiator drain. also when pulling the engine, I find it easier to pull the boost tubes out the front completely to give more room

I just had a tune from ZZP cause me to have misfire and only 65 psi compression on cylinder 3. During the tuning process they told me the engine valve floated several times from them raising the rev limiter. Over revving causes valve float and valve float bends valves! Stay away from ZZPerformance tunes! By the time they put the rev limiter back down it was too late the damage was already done! Only 101k miles on my engine and ive always been easy on it and OCD on maintenance and have been running a 176 degree thermostat since about 70k miles. Just had a new turbo put on 1 month before zzp tune. Pretty sure they wont take any responsibility for destroying my engine!

would be nice go see how you disconnected the exhaust and transmission without lifting the car much higher

Did you used the timing belt tool kit to hold the timing in place?
