+Tanner Harmon It was bad. I feel bad for anyone sitting there about an hour for 1 game. This is why even though I like the game it can suck really bad as well. Not to mention the sheer amount of shuffling. I'd rather kill myself than play with physical cards... It was Seismacancer versus Wailcancer though. Not really surprised. It was like watching paint dry for sure.
SamurotTris an amazing tactic with Wailord EX and Jason goin' Ahab on it was amazing - even though that last move he did should have been what he started with - hold out for that right mix and find ways to take out those useful cards and stall
I've been waiting for a deck like that to appear in the new meta. You know, using those skull grunt with, I don't know, Gumshoos for strategy. I really want to see something like that.
Am i the only one who watches these don't know what happens, but thinking they just started and suddenly realized its actually already over? And still be like who won??
While a functional combo, it isn't particularly impressive in the current format (let alone the one where this match took place). Ultra Ball lets you search out and add any Pokémon from your deck; the two card discard cost is rarely a problem and many decks use it to set up combos. And the time stamp you give is the announcers referencing the game before Lysandre's Trump Card was banned. Trust me that was a lot weirder since Pokémon cards have low or no cost to play (unlike say in MtG where most things have a mana cost); with the timely plays it was possible for a player to rip through his or her *entire* deck then reset the whole thing for the next turn with Lysandre's Trump Card!
While I know I'm late in responding, the Head Ringer would've done nothing attached to the Wailord and keeping it in his hand allowed Jason one more card to potentially shuffle back into his deck with N
+24Eagle11 The problem is that it would be very hard for local tournament organizers to have enough chess clocks for everyone, more confusing on small children in Juniors, and enforcing everyone to bring their own wouldn't work.
+mister nice well I can see it being a slight problem in local play, but not at the finals which would maybe be top 8 or 16. They should at least make chess clocks optional, and not a requirement. This way, if players find it more to their liking, or more fair, then they will invest in one until it becomes more of a regularity. And if kids at chess tourneys can understand the concept, I'm sure kids playing pokemon can too.
I definitely agree that chess clocks would be great, but you can't split the time format like this for different tournaments, it's just not good for the game. What needs to be done is enforcing 75+3 or even 90+3 for best of 3 and having judges be more on top of slow playing. (and yeah, good kids can understand chess clocks, but young kids trying to learn pokemon - it's already a complicated game, it would make it even more complicated.)
What do you mean by, "you can't split the time format like this for different tournaments." The finals (top 16, 8, or whatever) of the tournaments that really count (regionals, nationals, and worlds) can be the tournaments that use the chess clocks. I don't feel it would affect the game in anyway, only make it fair. There's nothing hard about pushing a button down after you attack. Although true about the judging, it would be hard to be strict on slow playing in my opinion. How are judges supposed to know when someone is slow playing, or legitimately trying to come up with a strategy. I easily understood the game as a 2nd/3rd grader, and I don't think adding a clock would've made the game any more complicated. That's just my opinion though, I don't think saying that the addition of a clock would make the game more complicated for the kids is a valid argument.
Enrique did waste time constantly looking through discard piles. If he sorted his and his opponents discards it would have been easier to track resources. That's not to say Jason ultimately was able to win via shady slow play.
Watching this in 2020 for the first time. Jason acted VERY disgracefully for such an accomplished player. Looking at both players' discard piles every single turn just to burn the clock when he fully knows he has lost game 2, while the judges don't even say a word about it. Intentionally wasting time between plays in a tournament is literally cheating. Doing so in the finals of such an important tournament while a bunch of judges are staring at your game takes some pokéballs.
So... I want to start playing Pokemon TCG and I need help building my deck. I was gonna go with either a Fire, Water, Grass team, or Fighting, Dark, And Psychic. Which should I do?
I suggest Eevee and evolve it into Jolteon team plasma because Electri-Defuse because if you are playing against a Pokemon EX the PokemonEX can't attack next turn and it dose 40 damage
This is a Constructed Format Event, which is where you bring your own 60 card deck from home. You have to submit a written deck list before the tournament begins so that they know your deck is legal, and you cannot change your deck after that point. There are two major Formats within Constructed: Standard and Expanded. I don't remember which one this event used. Expanded both then and now includes cards all the way back to the Black & White set, but the Standard Format changes yearly and only has about the last two year's worth of sets allowed.
Lost against Wailord Ex deck with Garchomp/Altaria on PTCGO tournament match with only 1 prize left but not enough time... only 10 or 15 min for a match. Would've won otherwise. And that's the first time I saw Wailord EX mill deck..
Kinda sad that without the timer, Jason probably would have lost. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Jason's, and I'm really glad he finally got his nationals win, but the better deck lost. I know complaining about a mill deck, a technicality win condition, losing to time, a technicality, is a bit odd, but still would have really loved to see this janky deck win it all.
CoBo You might have some chance with it if the Karen promo that Japan got is released here. Basically it is a hard counter to Night March as it shuffles all Pokémon from both discard piles back into their owner's decks. Night March uses a lot of Trainers to fill its discard pile, so those will stay gone while they keep drawing tiny guys who can no longer hit hard. A conditional 120 for three Energy isn't good, but it might be adequate at that point, coming from something that is only worth a single Prize when KO'd. Look for other Pokémon with a similar gimmick like Glalie-EX; its "Instant Freeze" attack costs [WCC] and does 50, but does +100 (so 150 total) if both player's have the same hand size. I also recommend the cards like Judge and Octillery (XY: BREAKthrough 33/162). Judge forces each player to shuffle his or her hand into his or her deck and draw four cards. Octillery is there because having a reusable draw Ability improves your odds of sinking up hand sizes. If you build your deck in a competitive manner, you should be able to "play down" your hand (using cards up for minimal effect if necessary) to match your opponent's hand size. Octillery means you can get your hand back up to five cards, so that you can afford to play a few after using Judge or Hugh. Judge/Hugh should mostly be saved for when your opponent has a huge hand, like say after playing Colress.
i got got a ton of cards from someone who owns a store, but all the pictures on the cards look 3d'ish like here, is this just the new designs? also, can anyone tell me what to look for when i open the packs, rares or something
Yagami Banksy Most likely you are opening packs with Full Art cards. They work the same as a normal EX but are worth a bit more $$$... I would look out for a Shaymin EX Full art (The 3D Shaymin). +lildtrz So they can't hear the commentators (and the crowd) because the commentators are saying stuff live about what's in each others hands and whatnot.
He might've played one, but the reasoning behind not playing any/only playing one was because you have to play down a card to get rid of your opponents. It just accelerates the pace of the game slightly, which wailord doesn't want to do.
Jason picking up the warlord you can just see the sadness in his eyes when he realizes that it has 250 hp😂

If they are going to time these matches they should do it with chess clocks, so each player gets an equal amount of time to think.
+24Eagle11 The problem is that it would be very hard for local tournament organizers to have enough chess clocks for everyone, more confusing on small children in Juniors, and enforcing everyone to bring their own wouldn't work.
