Hi Mark love this band. Partly because one of the few Japanese bands to come to Scotland. They were one of the first bands to start touring at the tail end of the "situation" and palyed at Nice N Sleazy, Glasgow in October 2021. They came again in September 2022 at the Garage/Attic. It was great for a fan lie me, small venues so up close,I met them at meet and greet and they were so nice and friendly. They were great live on both occassions. I like both their metal and proggy compositions (listed to a lot of prog in the 70s). I take it you did not go to see them in Glasgow as you probably didn't know about them then? They are just back from either Gothenburg, Stockholm where they have been recording their new album. Their last album Aegis Of London their first live album rand best seller to date I believe was recorded in front of a capacity crowd in September last year at Boston Music Room in London. It was produced at the same studio in Gothenburg.

Saw them live some months after the release of this excellent track, and really liked the concert. They're usually less progressive but they have one or two prog tracks on their albums. Their new album has just been recorded in Sweden and I can't wait. Oh, and Btw: yes, Haru (bass) growls wonderfully live 😉.

Haru is my hero ... an original member of the band (along with Kimi). She is so tiny ... and that big-ass bow always makes me laugh. I put the hyphen in there so Mark would not ask me what as ass bow is :p .

yes saw her live in Glasgow twice and so incongruous to see and hear these growls come out of such a tiny woman

One of the second wave of all-female heavy-metal bands, founded in 2011. They go hard and heavy, and epitomize the technical side of Japanese rock bands. Here is the original lineup:
    Kimi-Vocals
    Haru-Bass, growls
    Misa-Guitars, growls
    Mitsuru-Guitars (pink flying V)
    Kai-Drums
In 2019, Kai left to start a family, Misa left to pursue her own musical vision, Mitsuru soon followed, and they had to bebuild. Amazingly, they did so without any loss in quality, finding Misaki and Ayumi on Guitar, and Natsumi, formerly of Telecide, to take over on drums (after a brief trial with another drummer).
    Second Lineup:
    Kimi-vocals
    Haru-bass, growls/metal vocals
    Misaki-Guitar, audience left
    Ayumi-Guitar, audience right
    Natsumi-Drums
I saw them live in London just after this lineup came together, and they were explosive, playing mostly stuff from the original lineup. They have experimented with a variety of styles, dabbling in progressive and pop, but they still come back to their metal roots. In “Brave New World Revisited” (th-cam.com/video/_6-OXcyMkYI/w-d-xo.html) they’ve got a masterpiece. It’s also a tour-de-force for their brilliant young guitarist Ayumi. With work like this, they should re-emerge into the top tier of Japanese bands.
In early 2022, Misaki, who suffers from severe stage fright, left the band for health reasons, and they scrambled to find a new co-lead guitarist. They have been joined by Moe, and their first release with her on board showcases some great dual shredding between her and Ayumi. Hopefully this lineup will last!

    Second Lineup:

    “Bloody Bride” th-cam.com/video/CN3KDIBdosQ/w-d-xo.html

    “Eyes of Doubt” th-cam.com/video/_oNn9Wg-vNQ/w-d-xo.html
(This was written by new member Moe and is included as a bonus track in the Japanese version of their new album).

By the way, they are scheduled to drop a new album this June or July. Watch for it. I've seen some outtakes and it is going to be spectacular. And it should be a lot closer to your taste. Yes, there is some growling but mostly it's classic heavy metal.

Bridear have a (slightly undeserved) reputation for turning over a lot of members. Their sound's changed as each musician brings their own influence. They haven't done anything as proggy as this before. Side of a Bullet, also from their 2022 album Aegis of Athena, is 9½ minutes long, but it's really more of an overture to the album.
I'm hoping the album they just flew to Sweden to record contains more like this, but we'll see.

Beautiful song. The opening notes are so powerful, man. Also, their English is pretty good!

I personally can not stand her English accent, but I am not a native English speaker so take that for what you will. I would prefer them to either sing in Japanese or do the mixed thing a lot of bands do, but I know that's personally preference and I understand why people like the fact that they do sing in English. I have the same feeling with a lot of bands that mainly sing in English as well (like Lovebites). But to be fair I personally don't tend to listen to lyrics anyway, vocals are typically the last thing I listen for as long as they doesn't distract from the music (which these somewhat do). I do enjoy this track though, it's one on the highlights for me of this album, which I basically wrote off after the first listen. It did grow on me after more listens so I am looking forward to their new album, but both the calmer songs and the English singing makes it difficult for me to be completely in on them.

I have some recs for you, Mark. This Fun Machine by Hangwire, Savantgarde by Magna Carta Cartel, and A Dance in the Road (Roadburn Versions/redux, not the regular one, and be sure to wait for the end). They're all very different - to each other and to other stuff.

Dear Mark if you want innovation I can send you a whole plethora of bands and clips, the problem being that apart from myself and a few, very few, individuals they will not be crowd pleasers, but as an advertisement for left field acoustics they could work? Only time and the wheel will tell.

Dismissive comment right away, “I assume they sound like every other Japanese metal band”. If you think Nemophila, Lovebites, Hanabie etc.. all sound alike it is hard to value your opinion. Plus you know, stereotyping sucks.
