Christ, an arena specialist takes 2 games off Viper on Arena and chat call him a stream sniper repeatedly. That's not the wholesome positive community vibes AoE2 is renowned for.
I was saddened by this too, even if they are "joking" it's still disrespectful

thats what happens when communities get too big. aoe2's success is nice but also has the drawback of the trash coming in. the same is true for starcraft, the community is nowadays maybe not the biggest but it certainly turned nicer because only those who love the game are left. the trendtards are those who seem to behave like this

Respect Modri. He lost cause Viper micro and multitasking is supreme, but he had better strategies in 4/5 matches.
yes i think other players did plan hard wanting to win the tournament while Viper just goes with the flows without pre-planning lol
btw, some strategies are really impressive from him and other players

It was going so well for Modri until he decided to split his army into multiple tiny groups... vs Kipchaks who specialize in picking off smaller numbers of units. I think the nerves got to poor guy after he had such a huge lead on Viper and forgot his usual style ;_; Well played anyway, that push was scary!

Around 0:46:30, you can see his food go up and down between around 200-1100. Try to spot when he has his stables selected and when that food count goes down. You can hear the stables, but you can barely see it pop up on the UI, because it has happens so fast. His toggling between army and production is incredible.
The Viper's defense is so good.
His ability to improvise, keep his composure and find solutions is legendary.
@@crx122 exactly. never gets flustered, and is always "threading the needle" totally relaxed, narrowly avoiding defeat while at the same time doing some kind of counter-attack. Love his composure.
I think game 2 when Modri was pushing he could've won by attempting to raid your rebuilt production/mining camp. Even just a little stumble would've been gg at that point. Hard to target fire, micro slow units and raid though, shows the power of lategame multi-tasking.

To answer that question about "Do you want to rely on your enemies making mistakes or do you want to win at your own performance" - It, depends... You want to try and force your enemies into making a mistake and then counter them. Sometimes you can just steamroll them..

Are some comments on viper's stream a bit rude? they assume right aways Modri was stream snipping to win
I think most of them were joking, as Teutons completely countered the monk rush Viper was going for, but some people seem to have believed it, proving once again the internet mob tends to lower people's collective intelligence.

Viper is so hard to kill... that game 2 I can imagine blue being frustrated not to do the final kill... all because of 2 things, Khamer farming and the expansion to the right.. It is not easy to expand as Viper does and it has given him so many wins expanding properly
If Malay had invested his gold on two handed sword man instead of castle units, he could have fixed his economy to out produce Viper with 2hsm and rek him
the fact Viper was struggling on gold, Malay should have assumed that gold units (which are not really golden for Malay) would kill most siege from Viper and also his trash very easily... he could have also sent some Two Handed Swordmen to the right side of Viper to punish his center even further and try to win without micro
