@@shanerooney7288 I remember those times. I didn't have Age of Empires back then, but I got Age of mythology and other games. It was the times where you would bring the whole shebang of computer gear to your friend's house to play together unless you could split screen. How the times have changed xD
That last game with Ruben being the boom player and Matt taking the more supporting role. I was totally caught off guard by how well that went. I thought for sure that it would be trouble for Finland, but they showed very decisively that they could switch roles at the drop of a hat and still do almost just as well. A very well-earned victory. I'm so happy, seeing probably the most prominent game of my childhood is still going stronger than ever today. Even entering the modern e-sports culture and having such a great competitive scene almost a full 20 years after its initial release.
I’m glad I found this in my recommended section. Used to love this game back in the day. It’s nice to see people still play it nowadays, specially in such a high level :)
Well deserved win for the Fins. No matter what people say though, I believe that Rubenstock was the MVP of the event. His ability to harass and be an absolute thorn in people's side no matter the situation fit TheMax perfectly, and in the last game we also saw that he can do TheMax' role perfectly. He truly was the most flexible player in the entire event, all thanks to his unrelentless tenacity, and although he certainly isn't the best of all at traditional play he showed to be the perfect player for this event. All hail Rubenstock, dropper of TCs! Cheers from Norway!
The longer video is really nice because I can't accidentally get spoiled on when the last game is going to end based on the length of the video. It's probably a big hassle, but editing in a random amount of just blank time at the end would be appreciated .
Absolutely agree. All best of 3,5 or 7 should have the same. Its like ok there's only time left on clip for one game, I know who wins, why bother watching
Slightly late comment but wow, am I happy I found your channel. My favourite game and I was sooo not aware that it was still being played... Great stuff so thanks for the upload.
1:24:05 hard to say if Max actually PLANNED on it, but Lyx destroying his own lumber camp in order to escape/keep up in the vil fight was simply hilarious. Totally understandable brain fart for Lyx there
TheMax is a frightening beast. TheViper is amazing - especially his technical understanding. But I don't know anymore who is scarier in a TG - Especially if TheMax is a cavalry civ. Rubenstock is perfect for a team game. He is unbelievably random and has no regard for meta from what I can tell. And he's mentally tough for what I have seen him play.
2:45:00 the game basically won, seeing there is a pot more time we in the video, breaking my brain worrying HOW one could throw this, turns out they just do an interview at the end xd
Yea that's what I thought as well. I really appreciated the unpredictability! Also you can't predict when the games are gonna end when they're all in one video, which makes it feel almost like watching a stream. I like it!
Was watching the VOD for this last night, hours after I fell asleep I was awoken by the Hidden Cup Trailer. I was too tired to open my eyes but I listened to the whole thing, smiled and went 'nice', and fell back asleep.
Rubenstock best MVP of all tournaments ever!! What a beast 😎 so much courage . Also, funny how both Chinese players were playing without TC in chaospit xd Also thanks for longer video! No spoilers thanks to that (and avoiding comment section).

I've just watched WOLOLO 2020 Semi-Finals and Grand Final and next on Autoplay was this........ WOW!!!!!! I never even knew there WAS an AoE2 World Cup. Geeeeez, where have you guys been hiding?
I think the reason Mr. Yo was able to be MVP of the tournament was because of Lyx. Lyx could really screw over everyone else, and that led to Yo carrying later. Both the games that Finland wiped out Lyx (Bedouins and the Nomad) were games that China lost since they could take Lyx before Yo got his insane late-game rolling. Reubenstock was really key to this because he in some way almost neutralized Lyx's crazy with his own (a demo on demo situation)

@@Beastmodeon666 Finns are/were historically viking-esque. They weren't originally Norse, but Germanic influence started showing in their culture and language as far back as 1500 BC and as you might know, Finland became part of Sweden soon after the viking age ended and stayed as a part of Sweden until the early 1800's
Game 4 so many people saying in chat how stupid Rubenstock was for not following through the wood line when it happened. Finland had a massive advantage at this point in the game obviously, they could tell by the score and by what Lyx was doing with his villagers that he had no town center or lumber camp. They knew they had an insane villager lead, they did the smart thing by taking the highest percentage chance to win the game which was to take your massive lead and boom off it knowing that both chinese players are going to be stuck in the same corner of the map with way fewer villagers and far less resources. The only reason the game even went this long was because Yo wouldn't let it go.

About France's so called bad military record, I honestly would have imagined AoE2 players to have enough historical knowledge to know it was the complete opposite during most of history.
I know right!? France has won most of its wars in history. The only people they have a track record of losing against is Britain, and even then it is about half an half.
