What beautiful sounding guitars. Thick and lush trebles that still have an airy quality to them when required. And the tone is so even across the strings. Superb in every way. Well done.
Great job as always Michael! A very strong fundamental with incredible clarity. It always surprises me to hear a guitar with rich harmonics, yet clear separation between the notes. You are a master of your craft!
Just gorgeous in every way. I've been lucky to acquire a La Canada FE17, which is of course a budget replica, but an utter delight to play. I'm a flamenco player who now feels compelled to study Tarrega more seriously. Hats off to M. Thames and your delightful performance demo.
Only lover of the pure sound of music can appreciate its lovely sound that can even bring you to those era of romantic music being created..... This is absolutely excellent kind of job that has been done with all his heart. So the results speaks by its remarkable sound .... Someday I will get one of his magical touch guitar.... for sure without doubt.... YESSS.....👍👍👍
Waoooo... That guitar sounds phenomenal! Just sweet with a bright edge to it. You are lucky!!! I always wanted a Torres copy that sounds like one of Torres original. The sound on this guitar will just keep getting better. Stunning! Enjoy it.
Very nice sound guitars. And you don't have the one for me yet? I am waiting to buy one or maybe I will stop by to borrow your guitar to play a few songs OK . I think you don't mind at all. Besides you still have you "touch" on the strings. Thanks Michael.
I am afraid to say that both the year of manufacture of this Torres model is 1888 and Jose Romanillos who repaired the original states in his definitive work on Torres that it is catalogued as SE 117.
The original guitar repaired by Romanillos in 1989 when it was in a very poor condition. It was played on a CD by Tom Kerstens titled Serenade: Romantic Music for the Guitar tracks 13-17 ( Conifer Records CDCF 518 1993) I have made a copy less ornate than Michaels but more in keeping with the original which was a 604 scale length and originally was a peg head..( see Antonio Torres- Guitar Maker- His Life and Work by Jose Romanillos 1987)
It is erroneous to suggest that Tárrega played this particular instrument. According to Jose Romanillos the authority on Torres Tarrega’s favourite instrument was SE 114 which he is pictured holing in the iconic photo he posed for taken by Segura in 1901. Because it was his favourite,Tarrega’s wife kept it until after his death when she sold it for5,000 pesetas in 1920.
Yer are saying Tarrega never played this instrument, after Torres gave it to him at an early age? You have your facts screwed up, go back and read what Pujol wrote about this instrument.
Why is it erroneous? I would respectfully ask you to refrain from such comments on my channel. You may like to sound like some kind of scholar, but you are just making a fool of yourself. Tarrega received this guitar (FE17) from Torres in 1869. Romanilos states in his book, "According to Pujol, Tarrega played this guitar until 1889, when due to constant use, he was forced to replace it with another instrument by the same maker. Tarrega was reluctant to part with such a beautiful instrument, had untrusted it to the guitar maker Garcia so that he might carry out the necessary repairs, but his first attempt was unsuccessful. Years later Garcia succeed in restoring the guitar to its playing condition"
@@JMichaelThames maestro you just handed it to him. Of course Tarrega played FE17, it’s his most famous guitar. He also had an 1883, SE49, and the mentioned 1888, SE114. It is better for some people to be quiet and have us suspect they are fools, than to open their mouth and confirm it:)
What a beautiful sound, and the guitar is also very beautiful.

Beautiful sounding guitars, Michael. Please tell me what spruce wood did you use for the tops?

I really don't like the off-axis camera view where the narrator talks to someone off to the side. Just seems silly.
Gracias amigos de Victoriona por ese sonido tan malo en youtube.

Hello Michael; I´m from Argetina. I wonder if the shot of guitar strings is 630mm. What is the extent? Sorry for my english. Thank you!
+Matias Lopez Hi Matias, string length is 648mm on these.
+Michael Thames What happened to those last 2 millimeters? :-) Why not 650? I am just curious.
+sargijapunk You probably need to ask Antonio de Torres for that...
+sargijapunk 25.5 inches scale length translates to 647.7mm. Round that up to 648mm for convenience. Michael chose to work in Imperial for this trio.
Cool to know, thanks for info.
