I just looked it up- the weird brass sound comes from a really weird bridge- its an arch bridge but only one end is glued down and the other end just sits on a hard surface of brass or ivory and it rattles around when its bowed. Really strange, its like somebody was repairing a broken instrument and liked the sound so they made a whole instrument around it.
Have you come across the various kinds of violin that are amplified with a horn, like the stroh violin? They seem to be most commonly used in eastern European music. They sound more like amplified violins though, whereas these wonderful marine trumpets have more of a hybrid sound.
They are just string instruments, no wind involved. Rather than being fingered on a fretboard, different pitches are derived from the natural harmonic series.
I don't think I've ever seen these things before and I grew up in a house with early music groups practicing in the living room. I wonder if they're extra obscure because they're so freaking huge!
My guess is that the only way to ensure that there is no ad would be to "demonitize" the video but that also means that TH-cam would not pop it up automatically in anyone's feed.
Because.... If people can't monetise their work & passions they cannot financially support the effort to keep rare things going and in the human repertoire. We are losing our cultures around the World at an alarming rate. Can you honestly not just ignore the ad for 30 secs in order to keep something unique, rare & wonderful in the public knowledge? This comment goes for every advert you are irritated by when your interest is peaked enough to select a video to watch. Think of it as support - a little like the coins/notes one may hand to someone in need. Except in these instances, we are paying ourselves. Humankind needs to keep these wonders alive, maintained & in use. Otherwise we are degenerating as a species. In our contemporary age, the internet is the digital concert hall to hear unusual music. The price of entry is a 30 sec ad.
Well said! Nobody likes unnecessary and unwanted advertising, but in this case those adverts ensure that A) people can continue making work, and B) anyone can see that work for free. I have a small, unmonetized channel and TH-cam puts adverts on my videos even though I personally don't directly benefit from it. However, I understand that I either put up with the adverts, or simply don't make/watch videos, and I know which one I'd rather do!
Among these fine young "musicians" there seems to be a considerable amount if uncertainty as to speed, time signature and general character of a slow air.
